Irwin David C. Irwin, 71, formerly of Amarillo, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Kingfisher, Okla. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Irwin was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Woodward, Okla., to Mary Alice and Thomas C. Irwin. He belonged to the Iron Workers Union as well as the Boilermakers Union 531. He owned Irwin's Welding and Fabrication for many years. Mr. Irwin was an inventor, this was his true passion. He held several United States patents, a few being a hide puller, filtrator, and wastewater separator tanks. All are being used by industries today. He married Aletta Reed on Dec. 9, 1950. They were married 42 years and had five children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Lorene Honea and husband, Calvin, and Dollie Pickens and husband, Gary, all of Amarillo; three sons, Garry Irwin, Johnny Irwin and Paul Irwin, all of Amarillo; a brother, Jackie Smith of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his longtime companion, June Bucklin of Kingfisher; and several stepgrandchildren. "Al" "Baldy" Alford, 64, of Amarillo died Monday, June 28, 2004. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Gazebo on the Amarillo College Washington Street Campus. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Alford was born in Mississippi. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam and was stationed at the Amarillo Air Base. He owned Al's Auto Service. He married Virginia "Jenny" Young in 1960 in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Little Al Alford in 1961. He served in the Army during World War II and was a drywall contractor. Collins, 92, of Canyon died Monday, June 28, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donna Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Collins was born July 9, 1911, in Alva, Okla., to Oscar and Louise Reber Read. She influenced the lives of countless younsters as an elementary school educator in Sanford, Cleveland, Kan., and Walcott. Her work with young people continued after she and her husband moved to Canyon as a beloved volunteer at First United Methodist Church of Canyon. She was a dedicated member and pillar of First United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully for 40 years in almost every capacity. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Thomas L. Collins, on May 27, 1971. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Collins and wife, Angie, of Houston and Bruce Collins and wife, Nancy, of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren, Jan, Linda and Tommy Collins, all of Austin and Scott and Craig Collins, both of Anchorage; and two great-grandchildren, Joelle and Jacob Brochtrup of Austin. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mr. Taylor had lived in Friona for the past two years, moving from Hereford, where he had lived for 30 years. He was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Parmer County to Earsel E. and Grace (Boatman) Taylor. He married Edith Mann on Aug. 27, 1932, in Clovis, N.M. He was a retired farmer and was a retired Mill Operator in a feed yard. He was a member of Central Church of Christ in Hereford. He was preceded in death by his wife in June 1993; two brothers, Nathaniel Taylor in 1944 and Clayton Taylor in 1995; and a sister, Natalie Williams in 2003. Survivors include three sons, Harold Taylor of Friona, Charles Taylor of Lubbock and Keith Taylor of Abilene; a sister, Helen Sachse of Amarillo; a brother, Ralph Taylor of Forney; seven grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, June 30, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phyllis Lynn Landrum LUBBOCK - Phyllis Lynn Landrum, 54, died Monday, June 28, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Wellington. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Landrum was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo. She was raised in Borger. Phyllis obtained two associate degrees from Amarillo College, one in radiation technology and one in radiation therapy. She was chief radiation therapist for Southwest Cancer Center at UMC when she was originally diagnosed with breast cancer. She worked as patient educator for the cancer center until her retirement in January 2004. Because of her experience as a provider of care and a cancer patient, she was able to share her unique perspective and help many people through their journeys with cancer. She served on the Komen Board for the local Lubbock affiliate and participated in the Relay for Life for many years. She also helped start up and participated in many cancer support groups. Phyllis was an inspiration to all who knew her. Throughout her battle with cancer, she maintained a hopeful attitude and was always determined to fight the fight. Her strength and endurance came from her faith in God and knowing that she was loved and supported by her family, friends, neighbors and co- workers. Our family would like to thank everyone who helped Phyllis during her journey with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Dempsey and Helen Harrell. Survivors include her children, Christine Veazey, Dempsey Jordan and Sam Landrum; three step-sons, Brian Landrum, Ben Landrum and Jeff Landrum; 12 grandchildren; many beloved pets; and too many friends and family members to name.
