Mims-Harris, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Grover Neal, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Mims-Harris was born in Fort Worth to Bennie and Pearl Ashford on Nov. 13, 1918. She moved with her family to Amarillo at the age of 3. She attended Patten School. She married Paul Mims and to this union four children were born. She was employed for 25 years with Amarillo Independent School District. At the time of her death, she was a member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; all of her brothers and sisters; her first husband; her second husband, James Harris; and a son, Paul Mims Jr. Survivors include a son, James Mims and wife, Joyce, of Amarillo; two daughters, Millicent Turner and Kathleen Mims of Mesquite; six stepchildren, RL Harris, RH Harris, Randy Harris, Danny Harris, James Alice Harris and Mary Harris; her grandchildren including Winston Randle, Staceye Randle, James Williams, Michael McGruder, Eric Mims, Adrian Mims, Erica Mims, Ebony Mims and Ernie Mims; her great-grandchildren including Ethan Randle, Angel Mims, Karien Howard-Garza and Kiyara Howard-Garza; a sister-in-law, Helen Johnson of Seattle; and a host of extended family members and friends. Quintero on Dec. 27, 2002. Amarillo Globe-News, July 9, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth Leslie Rickman Elizabeth Leslie Rickman, 86, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, July 5, 2004, in Horn Lake, Miss. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Ewing of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Rickman was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Alvord, Wise County. After she finished high school in 1936 she moved to Amarillo. She married Noel Rickman in Amarillo on April 10, 1938. He died April 9, 1980. She married James L. Gordon on Nov. 26, 1983. He died Jan. 13, 1988. Mrs. Rickman worked many years for Commercial Insurance Co. She was a member of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church in Amarillo for more than 60 years. She taught Sunday school for years and served in many offices in the church. She was a member of United Methodist Women and held local and district offices. She was a past president of Amarillo Church Women United Day unit. She also served in other local and state CWU offices. She had been a member of Amarillo Chapter of Texas Mothers Inc. She was a member of Amarillo Federation of Women's Clubs. In 1995, she moved to Horn Lake. She was a member of Southaven First United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women, serving as vice president and president. She also belonged to PEP, the senior club of the church, Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and Horn Lake Friends of the Library. Survivors include a son, Glenn L. Rickman of Southaven; her ex-daughter-in- law, Shelda Rickman of Southaven; a granddaughter, LaRhonda Prentiss of Horn Lake; two grandsons, Michael Rickman and Richard Rickman, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Edna Mae Berry of Amarillo; three great-granddaughters, Jessica Prentiss, Chelsea Prentiss and Megan Prentiss, all of Horn Lake; a niece, Hallie Jean Grant of Lubbock; and several other nieces and nephews. "Roy" Biglow, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 7, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church in Claude with Dr. Roy M. Georgia St. Mr. Biglow was born in Reudi, Colo., to Berncille and Margaret Biglow. He graduated from high school in Salida, Colo. Mr. Biglow served in the Navy during World War II in Samoa. After serving in the military, he was employed by Phillips and worked on big engines. He then was employed by the National Park Service in Fritch as the maintenance foreman. In 1939, Mr. Biglow married the former Martha White of Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; and several nephews. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Brewster was born to Blynn Corwin and Arthur S. Brewster on Aug. 18, 1931, in Topeka, Kan. He was a quarterback for Kansas City High School and graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in geology and law. Art married Judith Veatch on Aug. 23, 1952, in Pittsburg, Kan. He worked as a landman in Oklahoma City, Amarillo, and Golden, Colo., for Exxon and Mesa Petroleum, negotiating land leases with individuals and other companies. After retirement, the Brewsters moved to Fort Collins, Colo., and returned to Amarillo in November 2000. Art was an avid outdoorsman. He shared his love of the out-of-doors with his family, starting with a two-week honeymoon canoeing and fishing the rivers of Minnesota. He and his wife owned a cabin north of Fort Collins where he loved to take the grandkids fishing for trout. He also enjoyed fly fishing and hunting dove, quail, and duck - and he tried his hand at bow hunting for deer many times. Art was president of the Meadow Creek Cabin Association in Colorado and spent many years networking with the Nature Conservancy to preserve the land and wildlife in northern Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Survivors include his daughter, Mindy Briggs and husband, Doug, of Amarillo; a son, Art Brewster and wife, Treva, of Katy; a brother James M. Brewster and wife, Ruth, of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister, Mary Joanne Lambion of Port Orchard, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Judy Lynch and Jon Briggs, both of Amarillo, and Ashleigh Brewster and Josh Brewster, both of Katy. LaBrie, 67, of Canyon died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dreamland Cemetery. Don Stribling, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Lamesa, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Dr. LaBrie was born in Baltimore on March 23, 1937, to Laurent J. and Marie S. LaBrie. The family moved to Rye, N.Y., where he attended elementary and secondary schools. He graduated from Rye High School in 1955. He attended St. Lawrence University and graduated with a BA degree from Bethany College, Bethany, W.Va., in 1961. He obtained a master's degree from Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., in 1965. In 1968, he earned a Ph.D Degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., and received a NIH grant to the University of Texas. He served in the Army at Edgewood Arsenal, Md., from 1961 to 1963. He married Lucy Schaefer in Steubenville, Ohio, on July 21, 1962. In 1970 he began his teaching career at WTSU and taught for 30 years. In 1993, he received the teaching excellence award. He served on various university committees and chaired the Faculty Senate. He was department head of biology-geosciences for four years in the mid-1980s and then returned to full-time teaching. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church and served as clerk of session for 10 years. He also served on various committees and sang in the choir. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gwynne LaBrie of Canyon; a son, Lt. D. He and Louise moved to Amarillo in 1942, where he worked at the Pantex Plant for many years. He worked for Time Chemical and Janitor Supply for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church for many years, where he served as a deacon. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Lodge No. 1239, AM-FM. He was also a member of Golden Spread Coin Club in Amarillo. Mr. Scott was born July 17, 1918, in Beacher City, Ill. He married Martha Pehrson on July 29, 1960, in Las Vegas. Amarillo Globe-News, July 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- J.C. Bonds TULIA - J.C. Bonds, 88, died Thursday, July 8, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Tulia with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Mr. Bonds was born Sept. 4, 1915, around Valley Mills and Crawford. He was the first child born to Jim and Clara Bonds. He grew up there until about 11 years old. His family moved to Tulia in 1926. He attended school at Valley View, northeast of Tulia, through the seventh grade. He performed various jobs at home and around the neighborhood. J.C. met and married Dora Bivens. They were married on his birthday, Sept. 4, 1936, and they moved in with his dad who lived in the Red Hill Community. J.C. joined the Baptist church at Red Hill and was baptized in the Anderson stock tank. He later moved his letter to the First Baptist church in Tulia. J.C. was a farmer, cattleman, trucker and later in life owned a filling station in Tulia and did mowing for the public. He retired in 1996 and enjoyed the country life. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Marie Davidson in 1993. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Lou Roach of Tulia and Betty Jean Winfrey of Burlington, Colo.; a sister, Hazel Lowe Rice of Fritch; a niece, LaQuita Wilfong of Fritch; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He moved to Keyes, Okla., in 1976, where he started his 18-year banking career. He lived in Guymon, Okla., from 1994 to 1996 and then lived in Follett from 1996 to 2002. At the time of his death he was still working as a banker. The second child of 12 in the Fulkerson family, Woodrow attended Harrisburg schools. He was united in marriage to Wilma Fern Gibbons on Dec. 24, 1933. He worked for the Harrisburg Fire Department, worked as a machinist and served as a Harrisburg City Commissioner. He was a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge. In 1952, the Fulkerson family moved to Phoenix. Woody began his career with Benson Contracting and Union Rock and Materials and attended night school to earn his purchasing agent certification from Arizona State University. Woodrow worked as purchasing agent for the company until his retirement in 1980. The Fulkersons moved to Spearman to be near their daughter and family. They were active members of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; three sisters, Bernice Norris, Nell Merrow and Gertrude Carr; six brothers, Charles, Denzil, Ralph, Grover Dale, Willard, and Roy Harold Fulkerson; a daughter, Sue Carpenter; and a son- in-law, Earl E. Kerley, 63, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 9, 2004. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Charles Jones officiating. Cremation was by Memory Gardens Crematory. Mrs. Kerley was born June 12, 1941, in Memphis to Clarence and Adele Partain. She moved to Amarillo at an early age and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1959. She worked as an office manager for Avondale Pharmacy, retiring in June of 2004. She was an avid Houston Rockets basketball fan and loved to spoil her family. The family would like to thank everyone who helped Mrs. Kerley in recent weeks. Survivors include a son, Beau Kerley and wife, Delana, of Amarillo; a sister- in-law, Melody Boren of Amarillo; and an uncle, Buck Partain of Galveston. Her favorite times were attending any activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. From Little League baseball to piano, and all through their high school years, it didn't matter what sport or activity, she would always be there. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Words can only begin to describe the characteristics of Billie Goss-Garrison. Life had dealt her many difficult trials, and perhaps the reason she was called a "wild Indian" at times. In spite of this molding, she will always be remembered for her love of her two sons and six grandchildren. She worked three jobs at times to provide for her children. There was nothing she would not do for her family. Billie lived many years believing she was a Christian. In November 2002, during a revival service in Sulphur Rock, Ark., she gave her life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. The daughter of Lora and Arthur Green, she and her brother, Jett, traveled with them in a covered wagon to Ralls, where they homesteaded a nearby farm. She continued to live on a farm after marrying Tommy Summerford in 1927. He preceded her in death in 1938. In 1961, she married Andy Willis and they lived at Alamogordo, N.M., moving to Bayside in 1978, where he built their home. The move was prompted because of their love of fishing and decided to move to the area, where they had made numerous fishing trips. Odessa was active in church work most of her life. A lover of southern style Gospel music, she was still tapping her hand to her daughter's piano, playing until a few days before her death. She was preceded in death by her first husband; and her second husband in 1987. He attended the University of Texas Law School and then worked for the Texas Attorney General's office in Austin. He was a veteran of the Air Corps, serving in World War II as a pilot of the C-47 troop transports in Europe. He married Lois Sager on Oct. 31, 1949, in Dallas. He was a retired farmer and rancher and a member of St. John The Baptist Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 6, 1989; his parents; four brothers, Frank Foxhall, Lesley Foxhall, Ed Foxhall and Harold Foxhall; and a sister, Emma Foxhall Deaver. Survivors include a son, Lewis E. She had also worked for Channing ISD. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She married Roy Foster on Oct. 2, 1945, in Big Spring. Foster of Grapevine; two daughters, Katie Beckett of Midland and Susan Adams of Durant, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. in Hereford Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Eddie Marcum, the Rev. Ted Taylor and the Rev. Darren Skinner officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Marcum was born June 30, 1925, in Estelline, the son of James Lewis and Safronia Marcum. After graduating from Estelline High School, Mr. Marcum served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, he attended the Commonwealth Mortuary College in Houston and graduated in 1947 with a funeral directors license. Mr. Marcum owned several funeral homes in Texas and was currently a co-owner of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home in Hereford. He received his 50-year funeral directors pin in 1997. Mr. Marcum was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of both the Scottish and York Rite. He also owned several new car dealerships in the Texas Panhandle and currently owned Marcum Motor Co. of Hereford. Mr. Marcum served as the president of many Chamber of Commerce boards in Texas and was voted "Man of the Year" when he lived in Littlefield. He married Glenda (Dudley) Anderson on June 6, 1981, in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Jim; four brothers; and two sisters.
