Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Vetesk was born Feb. 16, 1905, in Hamilton, Kan., to George McCombs and Jeanette Goodnight. The family moved to Ontario, in Oldham County, in 1917. The oldest of nine children, she graduated in 1923 from Vega High School and was a graduate of Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1927. She married James Braden Vetesk on May 15, 1927. She belonged to Amarillo Garden Club and Premerio Study Club. She was secretary of Women's Credit Association and a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a daughter, Carolyn McCartney in 2002; and a grandson, Lloyd Hays in 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Mozelle Foran of Amarillo and Shirley Hays of Loganville, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great- great-grandchildren. Hughes St. Mr. Hughes was born in Taylor and was an Amarillo resident for more than 45 years. He retired from the Pantex Plant in 1984. Mr. Hughes was a member of Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. Survivors include his wife, Eula; three daughters, Bernice Jackson, Martha Wells and Eula Cannon, all of Amarillo; and five sons, Aubrey D. Hughes St. Mrs. Ingram was born in LaGrange to Elbert and Rosie Hill. She accepted Christ at an early age in LaGrange. Upon moving to Amarillo, she united with the Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir. She was faithful until she moved to Phoenix, where she united and served until her death at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He worked as a foreman for ASARCO from 1942 to 1967. He was a member of Anna Street Church of Christ. He married Daisy Elizabeth Kizer on Dec. 27, 1931, in Hugo, Okla. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998. Mata, 68, of Canyon died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Amarillo. Prayer services will be at 6 p.m. today in Holley Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Canyon with the Rev. Haddox of Hollywood Community Church and Pastor Moreland of San Jacinto Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Mata was born April 23, 1936, in Donna. He was a farmer and also worked for the City of Lockney. He resided in Lockney for 32 years and lived in Canyon for 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Arturo Mata were married on Dec. 6, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. They were married 50 years and together had five children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ofelia; five children, Sylvia Lovelett and husband, Steve, Elma Dyer and husband, Tom, Arthur Mata and wife, Alice, Lokey Mata and wife, Lorrene, and Linda McCarty and husband, Scott, all of the Amarillo and Canyon area; 11 grandchildren, Brent Lovelett, Amy and Dan Evans, Brian McCarty and Mitchell McCarty, all of Canyon, Chris Amason, Jason Mata, Nick Mata, Lokey Mata, Jayden Mata and Loren Mata, all of Amarillo, and Melanie and Josh Calibo, both Marines of Yuma, Ariz.; and four great- grandchildren, Kailien Evans, Bryce Evans and Cayden Evans, all of Canyon, and Austin Ray Lovelett of Amarillo. Burial will be in Cee Vee Cemetery in Cee Vee by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Lawrence was born Dec. 29, 1908, in Cherry Hill, Ark., to Harrison and Lola Risenhover Miller. She married Samuel Dewey Lawrence on Aug. 14, 1924, in Mena, Ark. She was a previous member of Cee Vee Baptist Church and Quilting Club. Upon moving to Childress in 1982, she joined First Baptist and served as nursery attendant. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; and a son Samuel Jr. Survivors include a son, James H. "Dude" Lawrence of Childress; a sister, Dorothy Miller of Denver; two grandsons, Gary Lawrence and Gaylon Lawrence, both of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Julie Barber of Amarillo; and five great- grandchildren, including Emily and Addison Barber. Amarillo Globe-News, July 16, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- J.L. Marcum HEREFORD - J.L. Marcum, 79, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. in Hereford Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Eddie Marcum, the Rev. Ted Taylor and the Rev. Darren Skinner officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Marcum was born June 30, 1925, in Estelline, the son of James Lewis and Safronia Marcum. After graduating from Estelline High School, Mr. Marcum served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, he attended the Commonwealth Mortuary College in Houston and graduated in 1947 with a funeral directors license. Mr. Marcum owned several funeral homes in Texas and was currently a co-owner of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home in Hereford. He received his 50-year funeral directors pin in 1997. Mr. Marcum was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of both the Scottish and York Rite. He also owned several new car dealerships in the Texas Panhandle and currently owned Marcum Motor Co. of Hereford. Mr. Marcum served as the president of many Chamber of Commerce boards in Texas and was voted "Man of the Year" when he lived in Littlefield. He married Glenda (Dudley) Anderson on June 6, 1981, in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by a son, Jim; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Anderson and wife, Nicky, of Hereford; a daughter, Shelly Edwards of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Missy Marcum Crawford and husband, Scott, of Lubbock; three grandsons, Mitch Marcum and wife, Karen, of Katy, and Jessie Edwards and Jason Edwards, both of Hereford; four sisters, Maudie DeShazo and Oneita Weatherly and husband, Winfred, all of Amarillo, Lois Reagan of Hobbs, N.M., and Mary Richburg and husband, Lonnie, of Crowley; and seven great-grandchildren. He was a first-class machinist at Phillips Petroleum, retiring in 1982. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a Methodist. He married Lillie Harbour on Nov. 24, 1945, in Dumas. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 5, 2000. Anthony's for more than 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Anna Sunday school class. She was a volunteer for Pampa Senior Citizens for a long time.
