Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Wheeler was born in Modesto, Calif. He moved to Amarillo in 1972 from Modesto. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Amarillo International Airport as an onboard security officer in 2000. He married Marceia Adkins in 1962 in San Antonio. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lisa Miller of Cape Gerardo, Mo., and Janeen Lindsey of Riverbank, Calif.; a son, Mark Wheeler of Amarillo; two sisters, Aleen Mellon and Martha Buckingham, both of Modesto; five brothers, Ray Wheeler of Kingman, Ariz., Darl Wheeler of Holdenville, Okla., Harold Wheeler and Cliff Wheeler, both of Modesto, and Herb Wheeler of Rockwell City, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Vetesk was born Feb. 16, 1905, in Hamilton, Kan., to George McCombs and Jeanette Goodnight. The family moved to Ontario, in Oldham County, in 1917. The oldest of nine children, she graduated in 1923 from Vega High School and was a graduate of Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1927. She married James Braden Vetesk on May 15, 1927. She belonged to Amarillo Garden Club and Premerio Study Club. She was secretary of Women's Credit Association and a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a daughter, Carolyn McCartney in 2002; and a grandson, Lloyd Hays in 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Mozelle Foran of Amarillo and Shirley Hays of Loganville, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great- great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in La Iglesia de San Jose with the Rev. Franklin Pantoja, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dimmitt, officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Pena was born Aug. 18, 1949, in Brownwood to Albert Pena and Manuela Mendoza Pena. She graduated from Hereford High School and attended Amarillo College. Survivors include two sons, Jaime Pena of Canyon and Jeremy Pena of Houston; her mother of Hereford; a sister, Rosie Leal of Hereford; two brothers, Albert Pena Jr. of Hereford and Rickey Pena of Tulare, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 17, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kathleen Ann Hart TULIA - Kathleen Ann Hart, 53, died Thursday, July 15, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karel Smith, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating and Kathie's brother, the Rev. Brent Haworth, pastor of First Christian Church in Butler, Mo., assisting. After a two-year battle with cancer, Kathie Hart has won. She went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 15, 2004, at 6:52 a.m. Kathie was born Aug. 17, 1950, in Great Bend, Kan. She grew up in Spearman and graduated from high school there in 1968. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon in 1969. She worked for the Department of Human Services in Tulia for several years, and in 1977, she worked for a local accounting firm as a staff accountant for the next 25 years. She married James Hart on Dec. 8, 1978, in Tulia. She helped establish the Driskill Halfway House in Tulia. She was a dedicated member of First Christian Church, serving as the church pianist and treasurer. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Trudie Hart of Carlsbad, N.M.; a brother, the Rev. Brent Haworth of Butler; two grandchildren, Thomas J. and Katelynn Angeline; and two aunts, Kay Krider and Jean Donaghy, both of Steamboat Springs, Colo. The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, 102 NW Sixth St., Tulia, TX 79088 or to Odyssey Health Care, 7201 Evans Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., in Amarillo. Mr. Goodner was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Oden, Ark. He later moved to Oklahoma and then to Texas, coming to Pampa in 1937. Mr. Goodner worked in the Defense Plant during World War II, returning back to Pampa, where he worked as an insurance salesman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Olen Goodner; and two sisters, Gene Francis and Grace Adair. Survivors include his wife, Alma; two sons, Jerry Goodner of Ventura, Calif., and Dale Goodner of Oklahoma City; a brother, Lonnie Goodner of Pampa; two sisters, Maydean Giddens and Carolyn Meacham of Odessa; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Texico Cemetery in Texico by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Hadley was born March 17, 1941, in Clovis to John R. and Evelyn Hadley. He was an avid fast-pitch softball player who was inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame in 1989. Survivors include Carmelita Holland; his father of Muleshoe, Texas; two sons, Keith Hadley of Farwell, Texas, and James Hadley of Andrews, Texas; two daughters, Karen Lenderman of Kennard, Texas, and Jessica Hadley of Texico; three sisters, Jean Smith of Farwell, Linda Harrison of Clovis and Lou Ann Larson of Brownfield, Texas; a brother, Richard Hadley of Texico; and seven grandchildren. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in the Clear Lake Community, west of Laverne. Mrs. Pope married David "Oliver" Pope on Aug. 23, 1927, in Enid. She was a member of Knowles Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include two sons, J.D. Pope and Edgar Edward Pope, both of Woodward; a sister, Millie Priest of Buffalo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, in Amarillo with Craig Keel, evangelist, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo. Mr. Fowler was born March 19, 1900, in Tishomingo, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. He lived in Amarillo for many years, where he owned and operated his own mechanic shop Survivors include three nieces, Opal Naill of Wiggins, Colo., Ida Lea Biederman of Longmont, Colo., and Alma Ruth Froland of Martinez, Calif.; and three nephews, David Fowler of Denver, Rodney Fowler of Longmont and Dr. R.A.
