Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in The Church at Quail Creek-San Jacinto Baptist Church with B.L. Davis, Dr. Stan Coffey and Dale Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Looney was born April 3, 1926, to John and Lela Mays Looney. He married Joan Holloway on June 10, 1948, at Northwest Texas Hospital. He was a Navy veteran. He was a salesman for Dietz Laboratories of Fort Worth. He was an avid golfer. He was a member of The Church at Quail Creek-San Jacinto Baptist Church, was an active deacon and taught many Bible classes. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pete Looney. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy Looney and wife, Rhonda, of Amarillo and Tim Looney of Austin; a sister, Nita Houston of Amarillo; several nieces; and a nephew. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Ms. Mackowiak was born and raised in Chicago. She moved to Fritch in 1987 and then to Lubbock in 2002, where she was residing at the time of her death. Survivors include two sons, Jim Mackowiak of Lubbock and Don Mackowiak of Amarillo and three grandchildren. Osage St. Leslie was born in Slaton. She lived in Amarillo most of her life. She graduated from an Amarillo Christian school in 1984. She worked as a certified nurses aide, an E.M.T. and a receptionist. Leslie was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Lee Mason in 1974. Survivors include her parents, Jack and Jimmie Mason of Amarillo; a sister, Jeri Lee Finley and husband, Bill, of Santa Maria, Calif.; two brothers, Jack L. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Doane was born in San Angelo and was a direct descendent of Judge Johnathon Doane, the founder of Doane's Crossing in 1877. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949 and lived in Amarillo most of his life. Mr. Doane attended Texas Tech School of Architecture in 1955. He served with the Army from 1956 to 1958 in Germany and later in the Pentagon. He began practicing architecture in 1960 and was one of Amarillo's premier architects. Mr. Doane loved Mexican music and was an avid traveler to Mexico, especially Puerto Vallarta and Juarez. Survivors include a son, John Terrence Doane and wife, Linda, of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Chelsea Doane of Amarillo; a sister, Regina McMullan and husband, Randy, of Amarillo; and two nieces, Ann Marie Starr of London and Elaine Bailey of McLean. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. James Collins officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Lee was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for more than 75 years. She was born in Nevada, Texas, on May 29, 1916. Mrs. Lee retired from St. Anthony's Hospital after 22 years of service as a respiratory therapist technician and LVN. She was preceded in death by her father, Hastan P. Blackshere Sr. and her mother, Myrtle Mason. Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, John E. Lee Sr.; three daughters, Mayelmo Wilcots and husband, Charles, and Mary L. Turner, all of Killeen, and Frances J. Smith and husband, Willie, of Austin; a son, John E. Lee Jr. of Fontana, Calif.; a brother, Hastan P. Blackshere Jr. of Oklahoma City; a sister, Della L. Rogers of Langston, Okla; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other family members. The family suggests memorials be to the Alzheimer's Association. "Dick" Ross Richard J. "Dick" Ross, 57, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 22, 2004. A memorial gathering will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Amarillo College Ordway Hall with Bernard Cohen officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Ross was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Dec. 20, 1946, to Dr. William and Evelyn Ross and was raised in Denver. He married Judy Harrell on July 24, 1983. Mr. Ross earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Colorado in Boulder and his Master of Arts from West Texas State University. He was a national certified counselor, a certified career counselor and a Texas licensed professional counselor and achieved the rank of professor. He was also a member of MENSA. Dick was employed at Amarillo College since 1971 in the Advising and Counseling Center. He was a certified ski instructor and ski patrolman at Loveland Basin ski area. He developed and initiated one of the largest indoor ski ramps in the country and directed the Amarillo College ski program. Dick was very involved with the Student Activities Council of Amarillo College and various student and college organizations. Dick was actively involved in the community of Amarillo through his activities with the American Diabetes Association, Tascosa High School Band and Orchestra program, community ski programs and the Porsche Club of America. Dick loved his family, his work with students at Amarillo College and maintained a love for skiing, fast cars and life. Survivors include his wife, Judy; two sons, Andrew Ross and Eric Ross, both of Amarillo; a brother, Dr. James Ross of Grand Junction, Colo.; his mother of Grand Junction; three nieces; and three nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Shennum was born in Ravenna, Neb., to Joseph J. Tomiska and Mabel B. Wilkinson Tomiska. She received Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from West Texas State University in 1961 and 1963 and subsequently taught in the English department at West Texas State until retirement in 1978. After retirement, she began teaching Bible classes through Amarillo College and was a member of Toastmasters. She was a longtime member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Amarillo and of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lisa Shennum of Amarillo; a son, Steven Shennum and wife, Lee, of Amarillo; a sister, Virginia Muir of Belleview, Wash.; three grandchildren, Aspen, Cyrus and Clayton; four great- grandchildren; a special niece, Maurine Whitmore of Sammamish, Wash.; and many other special nieces and nephews. He married Elizabeth Benavidez in 1965 at Tucumcari. He moved to Amarillo in 1972 from Houston. He worked as a cook and in management at Union 76 and at Denny's for several years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mares in 1975. Mrs. Ballard was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Fort Worth and was a longtime resident of Hedley until moving to Ocean Springs three years ago. She married Bobby Charles Ballard on Jan. 31, 1975, in Rosenburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Gulfport Elks Lodge No. 978. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 1, 2000, and her parents, Lenward and Marjorie Nichols. Mr. Anderson had been a resident of Pampa since 1960. He worked for Triangle Well Service as a dispatcher for 25 years. Amarillo Globe-News, July 25, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lloyd Loftin DALHART - Lloyd Loftin, 79, died Friday, July 23, 2004. Prayer vigil will be at 5 p.m. today in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church with the Rev. Robert Busch officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Born Feb. 18, 1925, to Robert and Lula Loftin in Enid, Okla., Lloyd grew up in Carnegie, Okla. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1946. He fought as a nose gunner in a B-17 during World War II and flew missions over Czechoslovakia and Germany. He moved to Dalhart in 1949 and worked for the Dalhart Texan. Lloyd married Pat Gibney on Feb. 4, 1951. In 1956, he went to work at Bishop Office Supply and Printing. He eventually purchased that business and managed it as Lloyd Loftin Printing until his retirement in 1996. In 1998, Lloyd was coaxed out of retirement to work at the Texan as a part- time pressman, where he was employed until his recent illness. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Barbara Smith, Connie Dowd and Lisa Hanbury; a son, Chuck Loftin; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Noma Lamb. Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, in St. Columba Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park by Byrd Funeral Home. Thomas was born Sept. 3, 1983, in Houston County and lived in Dothan all of his life. He attended Northside Methodist Academy and was a 2001 graduate of Houston Academy. He also attended Vanderbilt University for three years and was preparing to participate in a Vanderbilt study abroad program at Cambridge University in England. Thomas also had been accepted to attend the Yale School of Medicine in August 2005. Thomas was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Tom and Helen Lindsay of Dothan; his grandmother, Ruth Booch of Dothan; three half sisters, Kathy, Kristy and Robin; a half brother, Joshua; and an uncle, Grady Booch.
