Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Mrs. DeShazo was born Nov. 1, 1906, at Walker County, Ala., one of 10 children of Safronia and James Lewis Marcum Sr. Maudie married Curtis Billingsley on April 23, 1927. They became the loving parents of Billy Glenn and James Lynn in 1932. Maudie married Tom DeShazo in 1961, when two loving families became one. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis in 1945; her second husband, Tom in 1979; two sons, Billy Glenn in 1932 and James Lynn in 1990; and six siblings. Survivors include three sons, Joe DeShazo and wife, Robbie, of Dumas, John DeShazo of Spokane, Wash., and Jackie DeShazo and wife, Masae, of Fairfield, Calif.; a daughter: Betty Province of Amarillo; three sisters, Lois Reagan of Hobbs, N.M., O'neta Weatherly and husband, Ray, of Amarillo and Mary Richburg and husband, Lonnie, of Crowley; three granddaughters, Taunda Billingsley, Debra DeSierra and husband, Larry, and Belynda Smith, all of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren, all extremely loved. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, 200 N.W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79107. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Ken Cole, of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, and Sister Mary Morrisey, of Odyssey Healthcare officiating. Mrs. McNew was born in Wichita Falls to Emmitt and Martha Burnett. She grew up in Denver City. She retired from Crown of Texas, where she worked as a home healthcare provider. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph. Survivors include a daughter, Shamarie Morris and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; a brother, Howard Burnett of Odessa; her parents of Denver City; and three grandsons, Dustin, Christopher and David Tucker. "Slim" Harms, 87, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Garden of Serenity in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Browning, pastor of Broadway Baptist Church in Fritch, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Harms was born April 3, 1917, in Leedy, Okla. He was an oil field welder for 37 years, working for Disco and Patton Machine. Survivors include his wife, Eva; three daughters, Ada Mastroberti and Bonnie Thomas, both of Borger and Earlene Hooks of Canyon; a brother, George Harms of Cordell, Okla.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. Mrs. Witt was born in Amarillo. She married Carl William Witt in Vega on May 11, 1946. She had been a resident of Carson and Armstrong counties since 1946. Mrs. Witt was a waitress at the Conway Restaurant. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 4, 1985. Survivors include two sons, Alfred William "Bill" Witt of Farson, Wyo., and John Carroll Witt of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Johnny, Lanette, Chris and Jonathon; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kellsey and Dakota. Mr. Martin was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Victory Family Church. Survivors include two daughters, Iris McDowell of Perryton and Ione Simmons of Pampa; two sons, David Martin of Perryton and Steve Martin of Abilene; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with Rusty Hancock, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Sechrist served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Iowa BB61 from 1950 to 1954. He married Martha Humphry on March 25, 1967, in Perryton. Survivors include his wife; his mother, Eunice Jones of Tyler; three sons, Cliff Sechrist of New Bern, N.C., and Chester Sechrist and Bob Sechrist, both of Dalhart; a daughter, Selena Sechrist of Dalhart; four brothers, Preston Sechrist of Dalhart, David Sechrist of Topeka, Kan., and Garland Martin and Ronny Martin, both of Tyler; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Peck, pastor of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Rock was born April 13, 1905, in Beresford, S.D. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include a daughter, Ima C. Stark of Bowling Green, Ky.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, July 31, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Claudie Belle Sherrod ASPERMONT - Claudie Belle Sherrod, 95, died Thursday, July 29, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church of Aspermont with the Rev. Jason Covington officiating and Jim Reinbolt, pastor, assisting. Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery by McCoy Funeral Home. Claudie Belle Sherrod was born to Fred and Mable Hall on Nov. 27, 1908, in Stonewall County. She was the first of four children - Alma Stewart, Gladys Miller and Jake Hall. She married L.A. "Pete" Sherrod in Aspermont on Nov. 4, 1924. They were married almost 74 years. Some of Belle's happiest years were spent working for the Aspermont ISD, where she retired. She made many lasting friends among the staff, faculty and students. Belle played the piano with the Stonewall County Senior Citizen Band. She began playing the piano at age 8 and continued until a few years before her death. She also had a lovely voice and loved to sing. She attended school at Peacock, where she met Pete. She loved helping Pete farm, especially driving the tractor. Belle belonged to First Baptist Church of Aspermont, where she taught Sunday school to the smaller children. She also helped with vacation Bible school for many years. The greatest pride of her life was her Lord, her family and her community, whom she loved with all her heart. Belle had a gift of planting herself into the heart of everyone with whom she became acquainted. The family will be forever grateful to the caregivers at Gibson Health Care Center, Kent County Nursing Home, Stonewall Memorial Hospital and Dr. Fahead Hamadeh. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; two sisters; and a brother. Survivors include three sons, M.L. Sherrod and wife, Maxine, of Canyon, Ky Sherrod of Amarillo and Wham Sherrod and wife, Barbara, of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many, many other relatives and friends.
