Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. David Evans officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Humphers retired from the Amarillo School District in 1961. She enjoyed writing and had several stories published. She loved doing arts and crafts. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Ronnie Humphers of Amarillo; a daughter, Judy Williams of Amarillo; and a grandson, Steven Williams of Amarillo. Bliss, 91, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 31, 2004. Mass will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Keller and Monsignor Francis A. Smyer officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Bliss married Irene Gagnon in Fall River, Mass., in 1931. She passed away in July of last year. Mr. Bliss was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Married for 73 years, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Barnes of Phoenix; a son, Paul E. Bliss of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Cindi Sheahan of Kansas City, Kan., Shelley Vannoy of Houston and Lynn V. Barnes of College Station; and four great- grandchildren. He was a longtime resident of Amarillo. He was a retired truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 2, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Donald D. Anderson Donald D. Anderson, 77, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 29, 2004. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rusty Dickerson officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Anderson was born in Cimarron, Kan., on Jan. 8, 1927, to Arthur and Pearl Anderson. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1944, lettered in both basketball and football and was very active in school activities. After several months of working in oil fields in Oklahoma as a roughneck, he joined the Navy during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He attended college on the G.I. Bill starting at Oklahoma A & M in Okmulgee then transferring to Kansas State University, where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Geology. Don married Helen Howell on April 7, 1950, in Ashland, Kan. He began his career as a petroleum geologist with Phillips Petroleum for 17 years, Mesa Petroleum for seven years and the remaining years as an independent geologist. During this time the family lived in Bartlesville, Okla., Wichita Falls, Abilene, and Oklahoma City before moving to Amarillo in 1967. Don enjoyed his work, family (especially his grandchildren), friends, golf, hunting and fishing. He was a cub master at Olsen Park School for three years in the 1960s. He was a member of the Methodist church, Panhandle Geological Society, A.A.P.G., a past member of the Landman Association, past board member of Tascosa Country Club and councilman for the KSU School of Geology. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Chris Jones and husband, Bennett, of Arlington and Kim McCarty and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; a son, Greg Anderson and wife, Connie, of Dallas; three grandchildren, Taylor Jones, Merrill Jones and Nick Sandlin; a sister, Bonnie Phillips and husband, Eldon, of Hurst; a nephew, Randy Becker; and a niece Janalyn Lawler. Mr. Copeland was born March 31, 1929, to Orville and Macle Maulden Copeland in Collingsworth County. He was a graduate of Wellington High School class of 1947. While attending WHS, Gerald played on the football team. He married Francis Weaver on Dec. 2, 1950, in Wellington. Gerald lived in Colorado and California before returning to Texas in 1972. He worked as a meat cutter for Albertsons and Furrs after returning from California, where he worked as a meat buyer. He was a former resident of Canyon and Happy. Gerald was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Angela Margrave of Amarillo; three sons, Gerald E. Copeland Jr. of Amarillo, Lance W. Copeland of Reno, Nev., and Brett R. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. Mrs. Shepard was born June 8, 1911, in Coffeyville, Kan. She attended schools there and also in Shawnee, Okla. She lived in Graham, where she met and married George J. Shepard Sr. on Nov. 24, 1936. They moved to Happy from Graham in 1939 and farmed until 1971 when they moved to Tulia. They continued to farm and later owned and operated Shepard Laundry for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors include four sons, George Shepard and wife, Vicki, and Glenn Shepard and wife, Wanda, all of Amarillo, Carl Shepard and wife, Barbara, of Pampa and Henry Shepard and wife, Brenda, of Congress, Ariz.; three daughters, Cynthia Sue Doss and Vera Johnson and husband, Larry, all of Tulia and Dorothy Berry and husband, Jimmy, of Amarillo; two sisters, Etta May Moore of Easley, S.C., and Kathleen Holman and husband, Royce, of Brazoria; 25 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was a ranch hand in his early years and later became a mechanic.
