Price Iris E. Price, 87, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. A service of thanksgiving will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Ray McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Price was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene and Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Hayes; three grandchildren, Cristal Traylor and husband, John, Laci Hayes and Sheldon Hayes; seven great- grandchildren; and a host of other family members and longtime friends. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Childress Cemetery of Childress with the Rev. Kerry Wood of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress. Mrs. Reynolds was born June 29, 1920, in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Nellie Jane (Ragsdale) Parman. She graduated from Mt. St. Mary's of Little Rock and attended the University of Arkansas. She and Chief Justice Charles L. Reynolds Sr. were married on Aug. 1, 1942, in Washington D.C., in the Bethlehem Chapel of the National Cathedral. She worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, served on the Railroad Retirement Board and was a member of the Law and Art Alliances. While she and Judge Reynolds lived in Childress from 1953 to 1971, she was president of the library board and attended First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years in 2000. Survivors include two sons, Charles Reynolds and wife, Dayna, of Amarillo and Austin and Parman Reynolds and wife, Mary, of Amarillo; a grandson, Spencer Parman Reynolds; a granddaughter, Kristen Marie Reynolds; a niece, Suzanne Atchley of Childress; an aunt, Mrs. Webster Mitchell; and a special friend, Mrs. Thelma Worthen. He was employed by Rasco Oilfield Services as a diesel mechanic. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon Harold Wright "H.W." Kirby Harold Wright "H.W." Kirby, 81, of Canyon died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon. Mr. Kirby lived in Canyon for three years, having previously lived in Midland and Monahans. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He graduated from Monahans High School and had just celebrated a reunion with the class of 1942. He was born to Annie Beulah (Anderson) and Barney Gibbs Kirby on Dec. 7, 1922, in Houston. He married Louise "Meme" Veronica Engling on Dec. 16, 1943, in San Angelo. When Meme died they were just three weeks shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Papaw was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Nothing pleased him more than to be surrounded by his family. He and his faithful dog, Honeybee, were involved in the pet therapy program. They lived at Conner House Assistive Living in Canyon, where they entertained and charmed staff, residents, and families. Their mutual admiration and love for others touched many lives. Patriotism to America, honesty, and integrity were important values to Papaw and he taught them to all his family. He was dedicated to preserving the constitutional freedoms of all Americans. He served his country in the Air Corps from Oct. 24, 1942, receiving an honorable discharge on Nov. 26, 1945. He was stationed in San Angelo, Houston, and Wendover, Utah. He served on Tinian, South Pacific with the 1st Ordinance, 509th Composite Unit. On Tinian, in the Marianas, he worked in what was then called the final assembly building for the atomic bomb. When the bomb left the building, it was loaded on the Enola Gay. Papaw was a patron member of National Rifle Association, Texas Police Association, Texas Sheriffs Association and was a dedicated volunteer fireman for many years in Monahans. Harold and his wife Lou lived in Midland for more than 20 years where he was chief electrical inspector for the city. They were members of the Good Sam Camping Club and were dedicated to the promotion of family time around the camp fire. Harold and Lou lived in Monahans more than 30 years, where they reared their four children. He owned his own business and worked for the city as health, electrical and sanitation inspector. He was also fire marshal for many years. They had numerous friends and loved the small town life Monahans offered, participating in all town activities. He was preceded in death by his wife in November 2003; a sister, Vida Iola; and a brother, Jack Kirby. Survivors include four children, Anita Bissett and husband, Geoff, of Brownfield, Jerry Kirby of Atlanta, Dee Kirby of Abilene and Teena Hall and husband, Dennis, of Canyon; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kirby of San Angelo; his grandchildren include Clayton Bissett of Abilene, Todd Bissett and wife, Rachel, of Amarillo, Kaela Bissett of Lubbock, Tracy Porras and husband, Albert, of San Angelo, Tanya Thornburg and husband, Brian, of Anna, Terri Pittman and husband, Gary, of San Angelo, and Amanda Sappington and husband, Jarrett, and Kendra and Kathlyn Hall, all of Canyon; four great-grandchildren, Chynna and McKenzie Kinnermon, and Dakota and Skye Louis Porras; a nephew, Nelson Kirby of Midland; and numerous cousins from Lometa. Mr. Thrall was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Texas County. He was a farmer, rancher and a lifetime resident of Guymon. Survivors include two sons, Lynn E. Thrall of Elkhart and Dennis M. Miller Jr., 72, died Thursday, August 5, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of San Marcos. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Cowboy Cemetery, east of Rochelle, near Brady. Arrangements are by Pennington Funeral Home. Dr. Miller was born in Chickasha, Okla., on Sept. 13, 1931, to Roy and Eva Miller. When Roy was 14 his family moved to Friona, where he graduated from Friona High School. He received a BS degree in animal husbandry from Texas Tech University in 1953. This is where he met the love of his life, Glenda Ruth Williams from Lohn. They were married at First Baptist Church of San Angelo on Dec. 15, 1954. Following graduation, he served in the Navy from 1953 to 1957. He was stationed up and down the East Coast from Florida to Norfolk, Va., and then was discharged while stationed in Albuquerque, N.M. From 1957 to 1966, he was on the experiment station staff as range management conservationist at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. From CSU, he received an MS degree in range management in 1960 and a Ph.D. in botany and plant ecology in 1967. During this time the family was blessed by the births of their children, Dan, Darla, and Ben. The family moved to Chico, Calif., where he taught at Chico State University from 1966 to 1969. During his time there he developed the university's range management program. Then the family moved to Vernon in 1969, and he became the area range and brush control specialist for the Texas Extension Service. In 1974, he accepted the position of chairman of the agriculture department at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After 15 years as chairman, he stepped down to a full-time teaching position at the university. Dr. Miller retired from SWT in August 1996. He was an active member of the Texas Section of Range Management, having been a member in Texas, Colorado and California. Roy was a deacon and a steadfast member of First Baptist Church in San Marcos. For many years he taught and ministered to a co-ed Sunday school class. Survivors include his father and mother, Roy and Eva Miller of Friona; his wife; his children, Dan Miller and wife, Rhonda, of Wheelock, Darla Powell and husband, Ricky, of Wichita Falls and Ben Miller and wife, Tracy, of Middleburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Joshua Powell, Jared Miller, Sam Miller, Rachel Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Hannah Miller, Abigail Miler, Jessica Miller, and Jenny Miller; four sisters, Mary Lou Glass and husband, Dale, of McLean, Donna Mears and husband, Sam, of Friona, Linda Tims and husband, Clyde, of Sunray and Jan Miller of Los Alamos, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Alan Williamson, chaplain at Ware Memorial Care Center, officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Mrs. Harris was born in Platter, Okla. Her family moved to Amarillo in the late 1920s. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1937. Mrs. Harris graduated from San Jacinto Beauty College and worked several years as a hairdresser. Later she became a dental assistant for Dr. R.P. Parcell. She married David Harris on Oct. 23, 1938. Throughout their married life they lived in many interesting places such as Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, Long Island and Buffalo, N.Y. They also lived in Boston and Brookline, Mass. During World War II, she worked at Raytheon in Newton, Mass. Eventually they moved back to Texas and worked for 23 years repairing clocks in their own shop. Mrs. Harris enjoyed ceramics, porcelain, needlepoint, oil, tole and china painting, as well as traveling and reading. She was very proud of her family and proud that she was able to give to others. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 17, 2003. Survivors include a son, Don Harris and wife, Kay, of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Darcy Harris and Don Harris II, both of Amarillo; and a brother, Alva "Ace" Conover of Rockwell. She worked as the office manager for H and L Operating Co. before retiring five years ago. She was very involved in the horse racing industry owning several race horses throughout the years. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Conrad was born March 17, 1913, in Platter, Okla., and married Frank A. Conrad in 1929. She was a homemaker and moved to Amarillo in 1997. Survivors include three daughters, Frankie Hardin and Peggy Thomason, both of Amarillo, and Jo Graham of Canyon; three sisters, Velma Blazer and Thelma King, both of Duncan, Okla., and Wanda Brennon of Woodward, Okla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bellar was born in Oklaunion on July 12, 1917, to Fred and Lenna Nettles. She married Herbert "Hub" Bellar on Feb. 3, 1934, in Portales, N.M. The Bellars resided in Sudan and Hereford for 40 years. Mrs. Bellar was an LVN in Hereford for more than 20 years and helped deliver six of her seven grandchildren. She and her husband moved to Amarillo in 1974 to be near their children and grandchildren. Mrs. Bellar moved to the Clairmont living facility where she resided for seven years. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. Grandma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a sweet disposition right up until the end. She loved a good story. She was preceded in death by her husband in December 1993. Survivors include a son, Kenneth L. Bellar and wife, Mary, of Amarillo; a daughter, Glenna K. Russell, M.D., 87, longtime Amarillo physician, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead, senior pastor and Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Dr. Russell was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Memphis to George W. and Clara J. Russell, who then moved the family to Amarillo in 1918. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1933 and received a bachelor of science degree from West Texas State University in Canyon in 1937 where he was the first president of Tri Tau fraternity. He earned his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1941 and was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity. He completed his internship at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, Colo. He served four years of active duty as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Upon his return, he set up his private practice in Amarillo in 1946. He married Jean Doris Bobbitt on Oct. 23, 1954, in First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo. He was a member of the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital, Northwest Texas Hospital and associate staff of High Plains Baptist Hospital. He was a past president of the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Academy of Family Practice, a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, served on the board of the Texas Academy of Family Practice for seven years and was voted as Family Physician of the Year in 1993 by the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. He was also an associate clinical professor for the Department of Family Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo. He held professional memberships in the American Academy of Family Practice, Texas Academy of Family Practice, Panhandle Chapter of Texas Academy of Family Practice, Potter/Randall County Medical Society, American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association. Through the years, Dr. Russell was the physician for Boys Ranch, team physician for the Amarillo High School football team and the physician for the professional wrestlers when they were in Amarillo. He was active in civic affairs including member and past president of Toastmasters Club, member of South Amarillo Lions Club, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the Knife and Fork Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was also and avid golfer and won Father-Son Championships with each of his two sons. He retired from the active practice of medicine in 1998. He was an only child and preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Russell and wife, Kris, of Fort Worth and Steven Russell of Amarillo; one daughter, Diana Wright and husband, Andy, of Plano; and one grandchild, Corey Russell. Bell Ave. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Toney married Tom Jones in 1934. He passed away at the age of 42. She then married Garland Toney on Aug. 28, 1954. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School. She ran the Colorado Interstate Hotel for five years. She was a beautician and avid china art painter. She was a member of the International Porcelain Artist Teachers Association and volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Amarillo. She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by both husbands; a grandson, Ray Jones; both parents; and numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include Lynn Jones Vadersen and husband, Gerald, of Amarillo; a chosen son, Jerry Whitfield and family; a granddaughter, Brenda Hayes and husband, Robert, of Amarillo; two great-granddaughters, Chandra Vaughn and Ashleigh Hayes, both of Amarillo; a great-grandson, William Hayes of Amarillo; a great-great-granddaughter, Shre'atha Vaughn of Amarillo; and a brother, Rex Childers of Oklahoma City. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. Grandma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a sweet disposition right up until the end. She loved a good story. Damien was born February 16, 2004, in Lubbock to Marques Lewis and Derenda Tate. Mrs. Moore was born Dec. 16, 1912, to Axley and Martha Elizabeth Ellis Killen in Vincent, Okla. She was a teacher at James Bickley Elementary School. Survivors include two sons, Spencer "S.D." Moore of Edgewood, N.M., and Larry Norman Moore of Santa Maria, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Wayland Whitlow and Harold Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Cline Cemetery by Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home. Military graveside rites will be held by the Laverne/Buffalo American Legion. Mr. Hendrick was born March 26, 1945, in Woodward to Asa and Gladys Hendrick. He married Peggy Ann Hall on July 25, 1965 in Perryton, Texas. Survivors include his wife; a son Mikel Hendrick of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter Misty Miller of Laverne; two brothers, Rex Hendrick and Ray Hendrick, both of Laverne; a sister, Carol Hoch of Laverne; three grandchildren; and two stepgranddaughters. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 9, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Warren Harold Morgan ELK CITY, Okla. - Warren Harold Morgan, 79, of Amarillo, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Haire officiating. Burial will be in Trail Cemetery near Leedey. Mr. Morgan was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Moorewood, Okla., to Joseph Calvin and Clara Smith Morgan. He graduated from Leedey High School and entered the Army Air Corps aviation cadet program. He received his pilot's wings and was commissioned a second lieutenant at Lubbock Air Force Base in December of 1944. He served the remainder of his active duty as a B-24 bomber pilot. Following active duty, he served 30 years in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He married Juanita Beth Jones on October 20, 1946, in Oklahoma City and moved to Amarillo in 1951. He worked 40 years with Santa Fe Railroad as a train dispatcher, retiring in 1985. For many years he was active in a variety of positions with Boy Scout Troop 80, Cub Scout Pack 80 and the Kwahadi Indian Dancers. He received the Silver Beaver Award in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years; two sisters, Lottie Harris and Imogene Edwards; and one brother, Hatden Morgan. Survivors include a daughter, Michele Cannon and husband, Kenneth, of Bartlesville; a son, Chuck Morgan and wife, Nancy, of Houston; four grandchildren, Jay Warren Cannon of Dallas, Jocelyn Cannon Wood of Tulsa, and Clayton and Katy Morgan of Houston; three sisters, Aline Cope of Cheyenne, Nadine Kiehn of Lindsay and Pat Tippens of Hammon; and two brothers, Jake Morgan of Moore and Kenneth Morgan of Irving, Texas.
