Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Aileen was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Pruden, Tenn. She had worked as a nurse's aide in nursing homes. Survivors include a sister, Mildred Goad of Amarillo; and a brother, Roy Lyn Orick of Celina, Ohio. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alfred Stanley Phillips Alfred Stanley Phillips, 73, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Tommy Needham officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Phillips served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired from the City of Amarillo, where he was a construction inspector for more than 30 years. He loved to fish and hunt. Survivors include three sisters, Orilla Ingram and LaVerne Phillips, both of Amarillo, and Freda Kathleen Craft of Gonzales; a brother, Carl Phillips of DeSoto; and a lifelong friend, Ernie Alfred. Carthel, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Sixth Street Church of Christ with David Minson of Lubbock and Leon Talley of Friona officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Carthel was born July 7, 1926, in Floyd County to Wayne and Ruth Golden Carthel. He was a Parmer County resident since 1957, coming from Dimmitt. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of Tenth Street Church of Christ in Friona. He served 30 years as a director of the Plainview Production Credit Association board of directors and 24 years on the Friona Farmers Co-op Gin board, the last 14 years as president. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army's 187th Glider Infantry regiment in the Pacific Theatre. He married Ann McCabe on June 1, 1948, in Dawn. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emma, on Jan. 16, 1999. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Danny Carthel and wife, Harletta, of Gruver, Donny Carthel and wife, Cindy, of Amarillo and Davy Carthel and wife, Kathy, and Doug Carthel and wife, Traci, all of Friona; two brothers, Bob Carthel of Llano and Jim Carthel of San Isabel, Colo.; five sisters, Margie McLain of Lakin, Kan., Dorothy Chappell of Meeker, Colo., Shirley Fields of Arlington, Patsy McCollum of Amarillo and Beth Gearn of Hereford; 10 grandchildren, Justin, KiKi, Kade, Colby, Courtney, Andy, Molly, Hannah, Caitlin and Cailee; and two great-grandchildren, Kyler and Kylie. Mr. Powell was born June 2, 1949, in Quanah, the son of Jack Henry and Mary Jack Jones Powell. He was a member of Grape Street Church of Christ in Abilene. Private burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Army and also the National Guard. He was a former police officer in Victoria and an executive administrator in child care. Mrs. Hurst was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Detroit and had been a resident of Turkey for most of her life. She married Ed Hurst in 1929. She was a member of Assembly of God Church and had worked as a school cafeteria cook. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Noltensmeier of Amarillo and Shirley Landry of Turkey; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Risley was born July 23, 1914, in the Martin Community to Adam and Icy Risley. He was a lifetime resident of Donley County. He married Melba Johnston on Nov. 23, 1935, and they were married for 64 years until her death in December 1999. He was an implement dealer, grain elevator operator and farmer. Survivors include a brother, Maurice Risley of Clarendon; a sister, Clara Lohoefer of Clarendon; two sons, Lloyd Virgil Risley of Amarillo and Jim Risley of Denver City; two daughters, Jo Shaller of Clarendon and Leane Thornberry of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Chris R. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in United Methodist Church with Dan Carter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kiowa Cemetery near Oklahoma by Good Samaritan Funeral Service in Booker. Mrs. Kerns was born March 12, 1908, in Chaney, Okla., to Edward and Nellie Haskett Baxter. In August 1927, Clara married Vester Kerns. Survivors include three daughters, Vesta Newman and Carol Hamilton, both of Darrouzett and Judy Watt of Richmond, Ind.; a son, Jim Kerns of Denver; a sister, Rossabell Bourquin of Follett; 10 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon Linda Mae Jaggard Linda Mae Jaggard, 57, of Canyon died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Deckard, pastor of Westover Fellowship Church in Amarillo, and the Rev. Donna Johnston, associate pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Kelton Cemetery in Kelton. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Happy, 1702 Fifth Ave. Mrs. Jaggard, 57, of Canyon went to be with the Lord on Aug. 26, 2004, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Jaggard was born June 25, 1947 in Wheeler to Harley "Teed" and Helen Ruth Pond. She graduated from Kelton High School and attended West Texas State University. She married Harry A. Jaggard on Aug. 7, 1967 in Kelton. The couple lived in Guam and in California before making their home in Canyon in 1975. Mrs. Jaggard worked in the registrar's office and as a secretary at WTSU, then as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church of Canyon. She was employed with the Texas Department of Health in Canyon at the time of her retirement in 2000. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon. Diagnosed with cancer in 1999, Mrs. Jaggard inspired all who knew her with her faith, her courage, her strength, her hope and her constant love. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a loving daughter and sister and a faithful servant. Her love of life and pure spirit touched all who had the privilege to know her. She will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved and cherished her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Keith Pond. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Terri Brock and husband, Dale, of Crystal Beach and Angie Jaggard of Canyon; a son, Brad Jaggard and wife, Davina of Seattle; three sisters, her twin, Glenda Abernethy, and Sharon Tillman, both of Canyon, and Brenda Knoll, and husband, Danny, of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Riley and Alexandria Brock; her father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Dolores Hauptman of California; a sister-in-law, Theresa Dannenbring of California; and several special nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
