Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. John Wagoner, chaplain of Craig Methodist Retirement Community, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton. Mrs. Bonner was born in Throckmorton. She was a registered nurse. Mrs. Bonner was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. "Pokey" Bonner, in April 2003. Survivors include two sons, Robert Bonner and wife, Hazel, of Springfield, Va., and David Bonner and wife, Judy, of Amarillo; a brother, Frank Wheeler of Amarillo; a special friend, Alice Hall of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Jamie, Sean and Beau Bonner; and five great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 30, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobby Harold Kirby Bobby Harold Kirby, 77, of Amarillo died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Jerry Coffman officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Kirby was born in Alvarado to Joe and Myrtle Wilson Kirby on July 6, 1927. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 37 years before he retired in 1983. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and was of the Baptist faith. He married Margaret Hill in 1950. She passed away in 1988. Later he married Wanda Jones in 1989. She passed away in 1992. He served his country in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret, in 1988; his wife, Wanda, in 1992; and a brother, J.M. Kirby. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Gesch and friend, Doug Crawley, of Amarillo; two sons, Doug Kirby and wife, Patricia, and Dan Kirby and wife, Lisa, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery in Dumas by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Lucero was born March 21, 1937, in Chaparito, N.M. She was a member of Peoples Church of Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a son, David Rodriguez. Survivors include three sons, Ricky Lucero of Clovis, N.M., and Tony Rodriguez and Emilio Garcia, both of Amarillo; six daughters, Beatrice Rodriguez, Dolores Rodriguez, and Yolanda Rodriguez, all of Fresno, Calif., Chriselda Ortega of Las Vegas, N.M., Nancy Ann Garcia of Amarillo and Rosemary Garcia of Florida; 31 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Scarborough was born June 28, 1921, in Roff, Okla. She married J.S. "Sam" Scarborough on May 15, 1943, in Lubbock. Survivors include a son, Donald Scarborough of Dimmitt; two daughters, Ann Ho- Gland of Amarillo and Carolyn McDonald of Hereford; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Manuel Young of Sacramento, Calif., and Leon Young of Meadow. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Union Church with the Rev. Ralph Adcock and the Rev. Ray Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born in Watonga, Okla., on April 4, 1943. He had lived in the area since 1943. He graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a degree in business. He was a farmer and was Hansford County Soil Conservation District Farmer of the Year. He was a member of Union Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Opal Jones. Survivors include four aunts, Georgia Presley of Little Rock, Ark., Pauline Mosier of Yuma, Ariz., Marvelle Jones of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., and June Newton of Frederick, Okla.; and many cousins and friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 30, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- W. Joe Wells DALHART - W. Joe Wells, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central United Methodist Church with Jeff Taylor, minister of Central United Methodist Church, and Dick Brooks, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Dalhart, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Old Hansford Cemetery between Gruver and Spearman. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Wells was born March 29, 1930, in Noma, Fla., to Wilbur and Inez Williams Wells. Joe was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1948. He attended Amarillo College and Texas A&M University, majoring in business. He then was drafted into the Army, serving from 1950 to 1953, and was discharged as a captain. He also attended Eastern Kentucky University and Dodge City College. He married Bertie Cator on Dec. 27, 1950. They moved to Colorado, where Joe worked for General Motors before moving to Stratford, where he owned and operated the Ford dealership. In 1972, Wells helped establish the first branch office of North Plains Savings & Loan of Stratford. He moved to Dalhart in 1977, joining Dalhart Federal Savings & Loan as vice president. During his 18-plus years with Dalhart Federal, he held the offices of vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president. He retired from Dalhart Federal Savings in 1995 but continued serving on the board of Dalhart Federal as director. Joe lost his wife of 42 years, Bertie, to cancer Aug. 20, 1993. He married Von Ann Lunt on June 24, 1995, in Dalhart. He was a member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, National Association of Real Estate Appraisers, Board of Adjustment, City of Dalhart and Hartley County Appraisal District Board. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Bertie. Survivors include his wife, Von Ann; two daughters, Debbie Hopson and husband, Dwayne, of Lake Kiowa and Deena Hulett and husband, Andy, of Dalhart; two stepsons, Jeff Mercer of Amarillo and Clay Mercer and wife, Susannah, and their daughter, Alexandra, all of Lubbock; a sister, Jane Surber and husband, Willis, of Salida, Colo.; four grandchildren, Melissa Cuthbertson and husband, Mark, and Brianne Hopson, all of Denison, Jarrod Hulett of Lubbock and Maegan Hulett of Dalhart; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Austin Cuthbertson, both of Denison; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society or Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Bayless was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Gruver to Pete and Edna Box Bayless. He owned and operated Bayless Laundry in Pryor for several years. Survivors include three sons, Alfred Bayless and Wayne Bayless, both of Pryor and Mike Bayless of Locust Grove; three daughters, Patty Jackson and Edna Gruver, both of Pryor and Donna Goins of Spavinaw; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arnold Bayless of Tyler, Texas.
