Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Baptist Church with Chad Horton, chaplain of Elizabeth Jane Bivins Home, officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Dowell was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Nunez, La. She was the sixth of 11 children born to Pierre and Elizabeth (Bourdeaux) Vincent. She married Robert "Bob" Dowell Jr. on Sept. 4, 1942, in Enid, Okla. The Dowells were best known in Amarillo and the surrounding areas as co-owners of Bob Dowell's Cafes. Agnes was the "woman behind the man" in the truest sense as she worked diligently in the restaurant business from 1949 to 1971. At the time of her death, Mrs. Dowell was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. In the 1950s and 1960s, she was a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and youth leader at Trinity Baptist Church. She will long be remembered for her giving nature, her love of music and her Cajun cuisine of chicken gumbo and shrimp creole. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 17, 1992; her parents; four brothers, Dudley, Whitney, Chester and Andrew Vincent; a sister, Annie Vincent; and a nephew, Raymond Champagne. Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Smart and husband, Nick, of Amarillo and Becky Drinnon and husband, Tylor, of Sunray; five sisters, Yvonne Newman of Farmington, N.M., Effie Champagne of Nederland, Cherie Eckert of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Alyce Adams of Locust Grove, Va., and Monique Autrey of Nipomo, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Amy and Jerrod Drinnon of Weatherford, Okla. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 31, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margaret Milby Shook Margaret Milby Shook, 98, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Plainview Cemetery in Plainview. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Shook was born in Austin and graduated from Austin High School and the University of Texas. She married Raymond Shook in 1927. They moved to Lubbock, where she was a longtime resident, in 1930 when Mr. Shook opened the first Shook Tire Co. location. She was a member of St. Paul on the Plains Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild for 65 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948; and a son, Raymond Shook Jr. in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Neely and husband, Jeff M. Neely Jr.; six grandchildren, Jeff M. Neely III, Megan Neely Lewis and Paige Neely Mills, all of Amarillo, and Sharon Shook Carlen, Stacey Shook Hill and Soeurette Shook Kelly, all of San Antonio; and 15 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Jeffries worked for the Dunigan Companies for 47 years as office manager. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Business and Professional Women's Sunday school class. Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Mrs. Rogers was a mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a charter member of Keeler Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Griffin of Borger and Sheryn Turner of Amarillo; a brother, Sherman Meek of Spartanburg, S.C.; two sisters, Becky Moore of Azusa, Calif., and Bobbye Benham of Littleton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 2, 1907, in Milburn, Okla. She married William Edgar Williams on April 28, 1923, in Tishomingo, Okla. Survivors include a son, Fred Williams of Amarillo; four daughters, Molly Williams of Truth or Consequences, N.M., Lorna Maddox of Turpin, Okla., Donna Sparks of Childress and Edrena Bucklew of Mayflower, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She married Olan Lowe on Sept. 21, 1940, in Graham. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Watts Funeral Home Kingston Chapel with Lyndol Adams officiating. Burial will be in Kingston Cemetery. Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Wilmington, Calif. She married Arthur Baker Sr. in Midland, Texas, on March 19, 1948. Survivors include six sons, Robert Baker, Tommy Baker and David Baker, all of Kingston, Freddy Baker of Summer Field, Fla., Danny Baker of Snyder, Texas, and Gail Arthur Baker Jr. of Amarillo; four daughters, Mary Groeber of Kingston, Linda Mandrell of Enos, and Betty Cristy and Martha Neves, both of Snyder; 36 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister.
