Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Paramount Baptist Church with Chad Horton, chaplain of Elizabeth Jane Bivins Home, officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Dowell was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Nunez, La. She was the sixth of 11 children born to Pierre and Elizabeth (Bourdeaux) Vincent. She married Robert "Bob" Dowell Jr. on Sept. 4, 1942, in Enid, Okla. The Dowells were best known in Amarillo and the surrounding areas as co-owners of Bob Dowell's Cafes. Agnes was the "woman behind the man" in the truest sense as she worked diligently in the restaurant business from 1949 to 1971. At the time of her death, Mrs. Dowell was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. In the 1950s and 1960s, she was a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and youth leader at Trinity Baptist Church. She will long be remembered for her giving nature, her love of music and her Cajun cuisine of chicken gumbo and shrimp creole. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 17, 1992; her parents; four brothers, Dudley, Whitney, Chester and Andrew Vincent; a sister, Annie Vincent; and a nephew, Raymond Champagne. Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Smart and husband, Nick, of Amarillo and Becky Drinnon and husband, Tylor, of Sunray; five sisters, Yvonne Newman of Farmington, N.M., Effie Champagne of Nederland, Cherie Eckert of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Alyce Adams of Locust Grove, Va., and Monique Autrey of Nipomo, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Amy and Jerrod Drinnon of Weatherford, Okla. "Harve" Bishop, 76, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in 10th Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommy Ewing, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in South Burns Cemetery in Dill City, Okla., by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Bishop was born in Sentinel, Okla. He married Mary "Louise" Ward on May 17, 1945, in Dill City. He retired from Pantex Fire Department in 1991 as captain and after 40 years of service. He had previously served in the Army and was a member of 10th Avenue United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife; and a daughter, Patsy Bishop McNew. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Underwood of Amarillo and Gladys Marie Menz of Pasadena; two sons, Darrell Bishop of Metairie, La., and Donald Lee Bishop of Bowie; a brother, Jerry Bishop of Point; three sisters, Jeretta Henry of Richardson, Glenna Foster of Fairview and Sue Boling of Ardmore, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 1, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dorothy Jean O'Brien Dorothy Jean O'Brien, 77, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. O'Brien died Monday after an eight month battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Sapulpa, Okla., the youngest of seven children born to Claude Moore and Inez Crow, who built their family on a strong religious foundation. She lost her parents when she was young and spent her early years with her stepmother, Nora Moore, her sisters and Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Obermiller of Texhoma, Okla. She met George O'Brien in Texhoma, and they married Aug. 7, 1948, in Tucumcari, N.M. They lived in Austin for two years before moving to Amarillo in 1951. She was a lifelong Methodist, an accomplished artist, working in oils, and an avid researcher, compiling four extensive books of history on her family. Most of all she was a kind, compassionate and generous person who loved her God, animals and the beauties of her country home. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl of Amarillo; a sister, Edna Harland of Springfield, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 1, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Billy Don Bybee Billy Don Bybee, 72, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Alvin Walker of Freedom Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Bybee served as a medic in the Army during the Korean War and he was proud to serve his country. He married Lillian Rogers on Dec. 29, 1976. They were members of Freedom Baptist Church. He worked in road construction for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willy and Alta Bybee; and a sister, Anita Jenkins. Survivors include his wife; a son, Curtis Glenn Bybee of Amarillo; two brothers, Ronald Bybee of Borger and Glenn Daryl Bybee of Wiley; two sisters, Nora Lee Davidson and Dora Dee Hernandez, both of Wiley. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald Ledbetter, son-in-law and pastor of Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City, Okla., and Rance Young, pastor of Silverton, officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hunt was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Mertens. She married Frank Hunt on July 3, 1934, in Memphis. Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Clarendon Medical Center Nursing Home administration and staff and Mary and Johnny Asebedo of Silverton for extending their loving care for our dear mother. She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Gary Don Ledbetter; five brothers; and two sisters. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edwin Cooley, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Rife had been a resident of the Pampa area since 1935. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Pampa Chapter No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star, where she just received her 75-year pin. Survivors include two nieces, Shirley Stahl and Gwenny Becknell, both of Inverness, Fla.; and a nephew, Don Clagett of Franklin, Tenn. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Burt, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Scribner was born May 7, 1927, in Wellington. She married Lawrence M. "Mutt" Scribner on July 20, 1946, in Mobeetie. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1952, moving from Mobeetie. She worked as a health and beauty aid buyer for Sandra Corporation for 17 years. She was a member of the Barrett Baptist Church and later the Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was a member of the Mobeetie Bluegrass Association and the Pampa Antique Tractor Club. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 13, 2001. Mrs. Weese was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Buffalo, Okla., to Earl and Addie Fesler Williams. She was a 50-year member of the Higgins Chapter No. 300 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid Lady Raider basketball fan and enjoyed watching her son's teams play. Due to her husband's work with Santa Fe Railroad, she lived in many towns, but the longest part of her life was spent in Higgins and White Deer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Weese in 1996; and a daughter, Alta Gail Weese in 1951. Survivors include three sons, James A. Weese and wife, Laura, of White Deer, Dean Weese and wife, Joann, of Granbury and Linden Weese and wife, Gay, of Lubbock; a daughter, Kay Carpenter of El Paso; a sister, Alta Stewart of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great- granddaughter.
