Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Scarborough was born May 22, 1933. He was a veteran of the Army. He was a Baptist and a member of VFW. He was employed by Evertt Green Painting. He was preceded in death by a son, John Scarborough; and his parents. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifton A. Mann officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. McAnally died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after being critically ill for the past week. Mrs. McAnally was a member of a prominent pioneer ranching family and was involved in the ranching and oil businesses in the Texas Panhandle for more than one-half century. She raised champion Quarter Horses, including two AQHA World Champions and champion Chianina cattle. She was a life member of Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and a lifelong member of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She graduated from Amarillo High School, and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she pledged Theta Sorority. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forrest "Doc" Ferrell Forrest "Doc" Ferrell, 99, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Jim Bankhead of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Masonic burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Panhandle Cemetery in Panhandle with Charles Hood, secretary of Carson County Masonic Lodge 1167, officiating. Mr. Ferrell was born Oct. 11, 1904, to Edward and Laura Jane Forrest Ferrell in Dover, Ark. He graduated from Danforth Private School of Pharmacy and received his state certificate on Feb. 18, 1927. In 2001, he was honored at Texas Tech School of Pharmacy in Amarillo as the oldest pharmacist in Texas. His certificate No. 7673 hangs on the wall in the museum at the school. He continued to practice as a relief pharmacist until deafness became too great a factor in talking to the physicians on the telephone. He was held in the greatest respect throughout his career by other pharmacists. Forrest began practicing his pharmacy in Canyon, where he met and married Dorothy Stockhaus in 1926. They lived in Canyon, Hereford and White Deer before purchasing the pharmacy which bore his name in Panhandle in 1935. He continued to operate the pharmacy until he sold to Harry Vance Jr. in the latter part of 1976. Mr. Ferrell lost his wife in 1969 and remarried in March 1972 to Frances Phillips Graham. He remarked that this was a little confusing to some since his name was also Francis, but he had always gone by Forrest until his moved to Panhandle, when he became known as "Doc." A 32nd degree Mason, Forrest was presented his 75-year pin and certificate in 2001 at Carson County Lodge 1167 in Panhandle, where he was past master. He served as mayor of Panhandle from 1949 through 1954. Forrest and his wife, Frances, moved to Amarillo, which had been Frances' home, in December 1980. He was preceded in death by a sister; three brothers; and a stepson, Douglas Riley Graham in 1975, who was a photojournalist for the Guymon Herald in Guymon, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Annette Graham of Arlington and Gail Graham Clayton of Amarillo; two nephews, Edward "Mike" Ferrell of Louisville, Ky., and Arthur Ferrell Stokes of Raleigh, N.C.; four step- grandchildren, Denise Nelson and husband, Brad, and Sean Graham and wife, Rachel, all of Allen, Kristine Guzinsky of Amarillo and Sgt. Mrs. Tomberlin was born June 17, 1921, in Salina, Tenn., to Gilbert and Elsie Mae Fletcher. She moved to Amarillo in 1968 from Pampa and retired from Furr's Grocery Store after 18 years. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She lived her life to her strong belief and faith in her Bible. She was also a strong supporter of Boys Ranch. She was preceded in death by two brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Rea and husband, Malcolm, of Amarillo; a son, Tom Henley III and wife, Betty who is more than a daughter-in-law, more like a beloved daughter, of Mission Valley; two sisters, Claudine Carlos of Pampa and Delsa Grider of Perkins, Okla.; two brothers, Ernest Fletcher of Pampa and Donald Fletcher of Grant, Okla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Vocational Agriculture Teacher Association and a lifetime member of TSTA. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Kelly was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Canadian. She had been a resident of White Deer most of her life. She graduated from White Deer High School and graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor University in Belton where she received her BS degree in home economics. During college, she was state president of the Home Economics Students Association and president of the Royal Academia Honor Society. She married C.C. Kelly on Aug. 12, 1948, in White Deer. She was a homemaker. She was a substitute teacher in both the White Deer and Skellytown schools for more than 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a leader and director of the G.A.'s. She was a member of the Baptist Women's Group, and taught Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma National Teachers Organization and the Venada Blanco Study Club. Mr. Briant was born June 27, 1916, near May, Okla. He married Shirley Wiggins on Jan. 30, 1964, in Boise City, Okla. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Frances "Anne" Durham SAN ANGELO - Frances "Anne" Durham, 81, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Johnson Funeral Home with Esther Choi, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo, officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Walnut Hill Cemetery at Kingman, Kan. Mrs. Durham was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Newton, Kan., to Edna Lutrella Bergener and John Ross Fugate. She graduated from Newton High School having attained the National Honor Society's Scholastic award. During the World War II years, Anne worked for the Newton Kansan Republican newspaper. Also, she was a member of a ladies Precision Drill Team which performed at various nearby military bases in Kansas. On Aug. 7, 1945, she was married to John W. Durham, who was a classmate and who had recently been honorably discharged from 4 1/2 years service in the Army Air Corps. They were married 59 years. After living in Bartlesville, Okla., for several years, where her husband was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co., the family was transferred to Borger in 1957. Anne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Borger, spending many years as deaconess and elder. She was an officer of the Borger Paragon Club. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was employed by the News Herald in the advertising department and retired in 1984 as classified advertising manager. In 2001, the couple moved to San Angelo to be nearer their two daughters. Anne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. She was a member of the San Angelo Banking Center's First Ladies Organization. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maurine Kliewer; and a brother-in-law, Paul Kliewer. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Judith Anne "Judy" Perkins of San Angelo and Jennifer "Jenny" Burgman and husband, Carl, of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Margaret King and husband, John, of Newton; three grandsons, Corbin Perkins of Dallas, and Reece Perkins and wife, Kayla, and Logan Perkins, all of San Angelo; a great-grandson, Noah Gage Perkins of San Angelo; three nieces, Jane Kliewer Munsell and husband, Darrell, of Carbondale, Colo., and their son, Darren, of Amarillo; Susan King La Forge and husband, John, and son, D'Arcy, all of San Jose, Calif.; and Jackie King Arnold of Destin, Fla.; and a nephew, John Kliewer and wife, Glenda, of Newton. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emmett Hall HURST - Emmett Hall, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Bear Creek Cemetery in Euless. Arrangements are by Lucas Funeral Home. A retired printer, Mr. Hall was featured in a previous Amarillo Globe-News article, "MeetŠEmmett Hall." The article, which ran May 22, 1973, said, "Emmett has ink on his hands and dirt under his fingernails. The combination printer-farmer puts in a full day working in the composing room of the Globe-News and also farms and raises cattle on his father's farm near Panhandle. At one time, he even bought a combine and 'followed the green belt' cutting wheat at harvest time. But he later returned to his original vocation, printing. "Tragedy struck the young Emmett but at the same time prepared the way for his future vocation. he was stricken at age 9 with a bout of spinal meningitis and lost his hearing. He attended both the Texas School for the Deaf at Austin and the Oklahoma School for the Deaf at Sulphur, taking printing courses at each. He graduated from the Oklahoma school in 1940 and got a job with Victor Cornelius Advertising Co. in Eastland, working there as a printer for 12 years. "A native of Wellington, Emmett worked for the Panhandle Herald and the Hereford Brand before coming to the Globe-News in 1956. "In addition to his work in both the backshop and the field, Emmett finds time for other activities. He was a member of First Baptist Church, was president of the Amarillo Silent Club, an organization for deaf persons, and past president of the Regional Association of the Deaf. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Margaret Sheckells; a grandson, Kevin Hall; and a sister, Vivian Cluck. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Durell Hall and wife, Vicki; a brother, Truett Hall; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his nieces, nephews and other family members.
