Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stan Warfield officiating. Arrangements are by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Simpson was born May 26, 1929, in Silverton, Texas. He married Charlene Harris in 1966 in Amarillo, Texas. Survivors include a son, Mike Simpson of Stillwater; and a brother, John Earl Simpson of Tulia, Texas. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with Dr. James Cobb, senior minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Ted Yeatts Lokey, a longtime Amarillo businessman and civic leader, was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School and Texas A&M University. In 1955, he was named Amarillo's outstanding young man at the Chamber of Commerce banquet. Mr. Lokey served as president of Ted Lokey Tire Co., a company begun by his father, Ted H. Lokey in August 1927 and as vice president of Ted Lokey Oil Co. He had been a board member since 1957 of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Affiliates. He served as president of the board of Boys Ranch from 1990 until 1994 and also served as a vice president and member of the executive committee. In 1974, he was presented with the Citizenship Award at the American Citizenship Center at its ninth annual Youth Citizenship Seminar for his work with Boys Ranch, American Citizenship Center, Kiwanis Club, and numerous other civic endeavors. In April 2002, he was honored for 45 years of service on the Boys Ranch board, and the foyer in the new Dippel Activity Center was named in his honor. Mr. Lokey was a director and head of the Military Affairs Committee of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Amarillo Credit Association. He was a former chairman of Potter County Chapter of the March of Dimes, a past president of the Downtown Amarillo Kiwanis Club, a past director and Man of Year for the Jaycees, a director of the Community Chest, a member and deacon of First Christian Church and served in the Army Reserve Corps. In 1998, he was named a board member of the Alliance for Children and Families, which represents more than 450 agencies that help more than 5 million individuals each year. He also served on the board of directors for the Presbyterian Children's Home. Survivors include his wife, Colleen; two sons, John Lokey and wife, Sharon, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Dan Lokey and wife, Susie, of Amarillo; a daughter, Maryted Lokey Keller and husband, John David, of Victoria; 11 grandchildren, Sam Ritter, Nic Ritter, John Wallace Lokey, Libby Lokey, Chelsea Keller, Chad Keller, Mackenzie Banta, Preston Banta, Kamie Banta, Yeatts Lokey and Bonnie Lokey; a brother, George Lokey of Amarillo; and a sister, Mary Alice Shelton of Dallas. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 14, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josephine White Josephine White, 96, of Amarillo, formerly of Elgin, Okla., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. Services were at 1 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church in Elgin with the Rev. Kenneth Hayes and Mike Barnett, minister, officiating. Burial was in Elgin Memorial Cemetery by Hodge Funeral Home of Fletcher, Okla. Mrs. White was born July 31, 1908, to Bessie Lee Barnett and Arthur Wilkes Barnett in Tucumcari, N.M., before New Mexico was a state. She got her bachelor's degree in teaching from East Central State College in Ada, Okla. It was there that she met and married Frederick R. White. Mr. and Mrs. White received their master's degrees in education from Oklahoma University in Norman, Okla. Josephine taught school all her adult life, teaching both commerce, in her early career, and later in grade school. Her last teaching assignment was at Cleveland Elementary in Lawton, Okla. Fred also was a teacher and school administrator all his adult life. Josephine and Fred moved to Elgin in 1965. Josephine was very active in First Baptist Church. She was a very energetic person with a servant's heart. She was greatly loved and appreciated by her children and her grandchildren for her influence on their spiritual life. Beginning in late 1995, Mrs. White was cared for by her daughter, Charlotte Schroeter, both in her home in Elgin and in Amarillo. In 1999, she made Amarillo her permanent home. Mrs. White died a very peaceful death in hospice care in Amarillo, attended by both daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Bessie Lou Rennard; two brothers, Arthur and Herbert Barnett; and a half brother, Clarence Barnett. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Johnston and Charlotte Schroeter, both of Amarillo; two sons, Houston White of Oklahoma City and Joe Fred White of Fletcher, Okla.; two half brothers, Lawrence Barnett of Houston and James Curtis Barnett of Oklahoma City; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Bob Schroeder, encouragement team minister at Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Britt was born in Amarillo. His parents were also from Amarillo, and his grandparents were one of the original pioneering families who moved here in 1889, two years after Amarillo was founded. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, where he served as an intelligence officer and pilot in aviation squadron VMF-115 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, Mr. Britt worked as a geologist for Sinclair Oil Co. He then joined Shamrock Oil & Gas and eventually became vice president of geology for Diamond Shamrock. He worked for Diamond Shamrock for 37 years before retiring. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for more than 16 years. He was an avid golfer and card player at Tascosa Country Club for almost 30 years. Mr. Britt was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Mr. Britt married Alice Wanita Walker on June 22, 1940, in Canyon. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ann Britt of Amarillo; two sons, Harry W. Britt of Houston and Robert Britt of Arlington; and two grandchildren, Casey and Jason. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Sharp Deal was born to Louise and Benjamin DesMarais on May 22, 1918, in Rutland, Vt. Raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York, she graduated from Sandy Creek High School and pursued studies as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. During World War II, she joined the Army Air Corps after gaining three pounds to meet the minimum weight requirement and nursed servicemen back to health at a hospital in Orlando, Fla. There she met Merle Barrows, a man from eastern New Mexico who would marry her and bring her to Amarillo to live. He worked as a piano tuner and flight instructor while she continued to work as a registered nurse. When he passed away in 1955, she remained in Amarillo with her two small children, sending them to parochial schools while continuing to serve as a registered nurse, mostly with orthopedic surgeons. In 1963, she married H.M. Sharp, who was a musician and car salesman. They were married for 26 years before he passed away in 1989. In 1991, she married Ted Deal, a retired conductor with Santa Fe Railway. They maintained homes in Amarillo and Waynoka, Okla., until he passed away in 1997. Mrs. Sharp Deal loved well, both people and animals, and was well loved in return. She lived well through service to the medical community and St. Mary's Church and left the world a better place. Our loss is heaven's gain. Since 2002, her son has been honored to live with her in the family home. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Hubbard of Amarillo. Survivors include a son, James Barrows of Amarillo; a son by marriage, Edward Hubbard of Austin; two sisters, Margaret Littler of Pulaski, N.Y., and Frances Brace of Denver; a brother, Lawrence DesMarais of Pulaski; a granddaughter, Brook McGinnis of Las Vegas; a grandson by marriage, David McGinnis of Las Vegas; a niece, Mary Littler of Adams Center, N.Y.; and two nephews, Michael Littler of Rochester, N.Y., and Ron Brace of Denver. She was an avid quilter for more than 35 years and had worked as a rural route mail carrier for several years. She was a volunteer at the Donley County Senior Citizens Association and was a member of the local quilting club. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 14, 1985. She received her bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in 1962 and proudly taught second grade for 24 years in Muleshoe, retiring in 1986. She moved to Canyon in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960; her parents; three sisters, Frances Lyons of Miami, Marian "Tuffy" Jameson of Pampa and Peggy Hassell of Amarillo; and a brother, Jack Ramsay of Compton, Calif.
