Her parents were Frank Parish Cole and Gertrude Sammons. She graduated from Monte Cassino High School in 1954, attended the University of Tulsa for two years where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in history. She married Robert Allen Lauffer in July 1960 in Cherrydale, Va. Ann was a member of San Angelo Friends of the Environment, Animal Coalition of San Angelo, a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and founding member of San Angelo Chapter 1223. After Ann and Robert were married, they lived in Washington, D.C., where her first three children were born. Ann always joked that she and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had something in common: They shared the same obstetrician. Wanting to return to Texas, the family moved first to Dallas, where two more children were born, then to Rockwall County for 20 years. Ann was a homemaker during this time, but when the children were older, she returned to school part time. She received her Texas state teaching certificate in history and English from East Texas State University in Commerce. She took great pleasure that her grades were better than her children's. After the last child graduated from Rockwall High School, Ann and Bob moved to the ranch. They lived there several years. Moving to San Angelo in 1994, she worked first at the Tom Green County Library. She then became one of the first hired at Sitel Corporation, where she was in the Quality Assurance division over five years. Ann was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was active in the San Angelo chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the All About Animals Coalitions of San Angelo and Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish. She loved her house, her family, her ranch and her animals. Ann always said she felt very fortunate that she enjoyed her own company. The activities she liked doing were reading, cross-stitch and needlework and crafts. She enjoyed working on her family genealogy. It was a family joke that she kept the bird seed companies in business, as she fed her backyard wild birds twice a day religiously. Ann worked endlessly for the betterment of the animal community. Special thanks are given to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for his endless grace, and Hospice of San Angelo, in particular, Lea Henderson and Sherry Coplen. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Survivors include a son, Robert Allen Lauffer II and wife, Kim, of Amarillo; four daughters, Lisa Hyde of San Clemente, Calif., Karen Baack and husband, Kent, of Corinth and Debra Wilson and husband, Paul Andrew, and Laurie Vessell and husband, David, all of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Blake Lauffer of North Richland Hills, Kendall and Kyle Lauffer, both of Amarillo, Michael and Madison Hyde, both of San Clemente, Ashlyn, Grace, Anna and Gabrielle Baack, all of Corinth, and Tyler and Dylan Wilson and Jeff, Justin and Brock Vessell, all of San Angelo; and two very special members, "Little Bit" and "B.T.", her dog and cat she spent many pleasurable hours with.
