Cooney Sr. Maj. Donald B. Cooney Sr., USMC, 85, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash and Monsignor Francis A. Smyer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Cooney was born in Yankton, S.D. He moved to Chicago as a child where he met Peggy Gallaher. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he played football. Don and Peggy were married in Corpus Christi in 1943. He was a fighter pilot during World War II while stationed in the Solomon Islands. He received many medals and commendations for his flying. In the 1950s, he went to work for Maywood Inc., where he was their first salesman and ultimately became vice president of sales. Don devoted his life to the success of his business before retiring in 1985. Upon retirement, Don then devoted his life to the caring and enjoyment of his children and grandchildren. He also found time to volunteer for Catholic Family Service and Meals on Wheels. The family wishes to express their gratitude toward the staff of Park Place Towers and all of the health care providers who have been with Don over the past four years. He was preceded in death by his wife in March 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Camille Davis of Amarillo; two sons, Don Cooney Jr. of Vermont and Jeff Cooney of Indiana; a sister, Ellen Bentley of Seattle; three grandchildren, Ashlee, Casey and Caitlin Claire; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends all over the world. Ragster, 76, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Mausoleum with the Rev. John Hickey of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Ragster was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Buckville. He graduated from Gilmer High School in Gilmer and received his bachelor of science degree from Prairie View University in Hempsted. He retired from the Army as a major. He retired from BWXT personnel in 1990 after 25 years. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Markwell Masonic Lodge No. 415, Consistory No. 183 and was past potentate of Ozair Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J.; a son, Myron Ragster of Houston; a brother, Ozell Ragster of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Rashad Austin and wife, Carrie, and Dorean Ragster, all of Houston; and a great-grandson, Jordan Austin of Houston. Mr. Kidder is lovingly remembered by family and friends as a good soul with a gift for drawing horses, landscapes and portraits. Survivors include a brother, John M. Joint memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at 414 E. Willow Creek at the back fence for Cindy and Morris Greenburg. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Greenburg married Morris Greenburg in 1972. She was a hostess/cashier at the Best Western Village Inn from 1978 to 1984. She and her husband owned and operated Steak and Stuff in Fritch. She was wonderful mother and grandmother and was a friend to everyone she knew. The family would like to give special thanks to BSA Hospice and staff for all of their love and support. She was preceded in death by her husband March 5, 2004. Ms. Timmons was born in Harrison, Kan., in 1906. She moved to Amarillo in 1948 from Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Timmons was the first female court reporter in Amarillo from 1950 until her retirement in 1976. She lived life to its fullest and enjoyed helping others. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Odyssey Healthcare, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Yoachum was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Lone Elm, Kan., to Mamie and John Butler. She lived in and around the Borger and Fritch area for better than 50 years. Mae owned and operated several grocery stores, including the By-Pass Grocery and Hull's Grocery. Mae never met a stranger and she always had a story to tell. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Mae had a love for nature and enjoyed the great outdoors. She loved to travel and enjoyed sight-seeing and people watching. In the 1960s she raised, bred and sold canaries. Crocheting and quilting were among her many talents. She was also involved in the Royal Neighbors of America for about 45 years and she held various positions within the organization. On May 21, 1971, she married Harvey Yoachum of Borger. They relocated to Fritch until 1999. Mae will be remembered for her colorful stories, bright smile and unforgettable laugh, but mostly for her love of people. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Barkley of Borger and Wanda Tinnel of Fort Sumner, N.M.; nine granddaughters, Debbie DeLara of Borger, Lorraine Mason of Malvern, Ark., Donna Langner of Hobbs, N.M., Lee Ann Strickland and husband, Mike, of Fritch, Janet Wooten and husband, Doug, Karen Weir and husband, Jim, and Patty Payne, all of Amarillo, Diana Snow and husband, Jim, of San Diego and Brenda Mullins of Panhandle; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2002. She was a member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ and Pampa Fine Arts Association. She was an avid artist and specialized in oil painting.
