Peery Dorothy L. Peery, 89, of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. James E. Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Rev. Annette Sowell of the United Methodist Church in Palmer officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Miss Peery was born May 22, 1915, in Dalhart to William E. "Bill" and Margaret Green Peery, longtime residents of Dalhart. She graduated from Dalhart High in 1933 and attended McMurry College in Abilene. Miss Peery worked for Scott Motor Co., JC Penney and the Department of Agriculture before moving to Amarillo. After working for the Department of Agriculture and Potter County Draft Board, she joined Southwestern Public Service in the system engineering department until 1980, when she retired after 36 1/2 years of employment. After moving to Amarillo in 1942, Miss Peery was a member of Pilot Club, American Business Women's Club, Junior Business Women's Club, National Secretaries Association, Cosmopolitan Study Club, Delta Theta Chi Sorority, Epsilom Sigma Alpha Sorority and Zonta Club. Miss Peery was a lifelong Methodist. She served at Polk Street United Methodist Church not only as a Sunday school teacher for youth and adult students, but also as a secretary to the administration board and in many positions in the Northwest Texas Conference. She was active for many years in the United Methodist Women and Guild. After retirement she worked for John Notestine Architect, for Carroll Beaman of American Star Energy and Minerals Corp. and continued private tutoring of shorthand students. Miss Peery was the first certified professional secretary in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Mitchell of Orem, Utah; and two brothers, Nathan and Weldon Peery of Dalhart, Survivors include two sisters, Wilma Ruth Christensen of Provo, Utah, and Kathryn Goss of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Vernnie Peery Day of Dalhart; and 14 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at 7609 Tarrytown St. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 28, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stanley Hugh Johnson Stanley Hugh Johnson, 77, formerly of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Las Vegas. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Johnson was born in Amarillo on June 21, 1927. He passed away on Oct. 24, 2004, after a brief illness at the age of 77. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945 and was also a graduate of Texas Tech University. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Johnson was married to Doris Nickell for 56 years. He worked for General Electric for 37 years. After retirement, he moved to Las Vegas in 1988. He loved his family and roses. He was an active member of American Rose Society and Las Vegas Valley Rose Society. Mr. Johnson was also a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin Johnson and wife, Denise, of New Orleans; a daughter, Marsha Milligan and husband, Mike, of Amarillo; a sister, Novelle Gier and husband, Robert, of Lakewood, Colo.; two granddaughters, Christi Milligan of Amarillo and Vanese Pierson and husband, Jarred, of Lubbock; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Pierson and Lacey Pierson, both of Lubbock. Chavez, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Martin was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Baylor County, to Roy and Edna Stevens. She graduated from Seymour High School. She lived in Tulsa, Okla., and Cedaridge, Colo., before moving to Amarillo in 1990. She was an active volunteer at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa and Delta County Memorial Hospital in Colorado. While in Amarillo, she lived at Park Place Towers where she was president of the Residents Council and volunteered in all aspects of Park Place. She was a member of the Susanna Wesley Sunday school class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. She married J Douglas Martin on May 31, 1941, in Seymour. She was preceded in death by her husband. Mrs. Carter was born April 14, 1930, in Clarendon. She was a resident of Clarendon until moving to Dumas in 1948. She was employed by First State Bank in Dumas from 1948 until 1989 when she retired and moved to Pampa. She lived in Pampa from 1989 until returning to Clarendon in 1995. She married Garth Cyrus "Red" Carter on May 28, 1948, in Clarendon. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Clarendon. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Johnny Carter and wife, Deena, of Shamrock and Randy Carter of Austin; two sisters, Ruby Turner of Hostell and Francis Kennard of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Dakota Carter and Jacey Carter, both of Shamrock. He married Norma Schuessler on Jan. 1, 1950, in Wittenberg, Mo. Mr. Stueve was a dairyman his entire life and worked for the family owned Stueve- Gold Dairy, west of Hereford. Mr. Stueve was a veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alvin Stueve, Elmer Stueve, Edgar Stueve, Gilbert Stueve and Charles Stueve. Mrs. Radcliff was born July 15, 1908, in Beaver County. She was a teacher and was married to Rolley Rush Radcliff. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sanders. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a brother, Philip Sanders; a niece, Amanda Reed; and his father, Noble Sanders. Visitation will be after the service at the funeral home family service center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Oliver was born Jan. 10, 1906, in Canyon. She married Jesse J. Oliver on Oct. 5, 1927, in Canyon. She was mainly a homemaker, but had also managed the Claude Motel with her husband from the mid 1950s until the early 1960s. She also was an accomplished dressmaker and sewed for the public in Claude for many years. After her husbandŐs death, she continued to live in Claude and was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of Warner Sunday School class and also sang in the Choir. She was a member of the Mauldin Club and the Business Womens Club. She moved to Lubbock in July 1995 and was a resident of Carillon Retirement home until her health required a moved to the Garrison Geriatric Center in Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 22, 1974, in Claude. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Salmon and husband, Fred, of Lubbock; three grandsons; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
