Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church in Flora Vista, N.M., with the Rev. Dennis Vaughn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, N.M., by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Stonewall County to E.V. "Coonie" Smith and Margaret "Pete" Smith. She married Arthur Brown on May 5, 1946, in Amarillo. They spent their lives farming and ranching in various places before settling in Aztec, N.M. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Flora Vista, where she served as clerk, treasurer, secretary of vacation Bible school and representative to the San Juan Baptist Association. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years in 1987. Survivors include two sisters, Myrtle Manning of Amarillo and Maxine Sherrod and husband, M.L., of Canyon; a brother, Chester F. Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Ruidoso, N.M.; and a very special family friend, Gary Decker. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Flora Vista, P.O. A service to celebrate Helen's life will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Greer, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Parr was born June 4, 1952, to Tom and B. Helton in Amarillo. She was a loving companion and a wonderful Granny. She nurtured and cherished her family and friends. Helen loved and faithfully served the Lord daily. May 22, 1993, Helen married the love of her life, Tom Parr. Together they successfully ran a mechanical contracting company from which they recently retired. Helen joyfully spent her days quilting, sewing, gardening, bird watching and delighting in the company of her sweet husband, Tom. Together, Helen and Tom enjoyed numerous RV trips to revel in the mountains they both so loved. The Lord, family, friends, holidays and traditions were her passion. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Holly Howell, Shannon DeFord and Reagan Wilcox; a son, Syth Howell; two sisters, Brenda Gowdy and Diane Rhodes; two brothers, Mike Helton and Ted Johannsen; and three grandchildren, Hunter Howell, Ashton Howell and Hannah DeFord. Martinez, 51, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Dumas. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Templo Elim De Las Asambleas De Dios with the Rev. Jose I. Contreras, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery in Dumas by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Martinez married Paladio V. Martinez on Feb. 13, 1978, in San Jose, Calif. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Leroy George Purcella Jr. and Jose Paladio Martinez Jr., both of Cactus; two daughters, Angelina Lora and Arlene Nicole Martinez, both of Cactus; five sisters, Maria Merino and Esther Loza, both of Dumas, Connie Torres and Rosie Navarez, both of California, and Anna Macias of Laredo; a brother, Inez Trinidad Jr. of Borger; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Grice was a member of First Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. Woody moved to Dumas in 1951 and worked at the American Zinc Plant, known as "The Smelter." He also sold cars for Witt Pontiac and Edwards Chrysler. Woody retired Aug. 2, 2003, from Tri-County Bail Bond. Woody was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Girard. He married Viola Hayes on Sept. 13, 1964. He was preceded in death by his wife in August 1992; five brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Blackshear of Dumas; three sons, Fred Grice and wife, Mary Kay, of Elkhart, Kan., and Doug Grice and wife, Ruth Ann, and Tracy Grice and wife, Robin, all of Dumas; a sister, Jetti Arnold of Spur; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was a loving mother and an active member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Lewis on May 26, 1926, in Wheeler, She had lived in Pampa most of her life. She was a charter member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ and a member of Pampa Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 20, 1979. Survivors include two sons, Harold Lewis and wife, Charlotte, and James H. Jim Shamburger, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Victoria, officiating. Mrs. Smith worked for the Ford Family Chiropractic Clinic in Pampa as the office manager until 2001. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member and past president of the WMU, and past director of First Baptist Church Youth Group. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 31, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edna Mae Sargent BORGER - Edna Sargent, 87, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Westlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Devotion in Westlawn by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Sargent was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Clarendon. She was a strong, resourceful woman who welded on airplanes for the military during World War II and then single-handedly raised three children in the '50s, maintaining two to three jobs at one time to make ends meet. After that, she raised two more children in the '60s with her husband, J.C. Sargent. While she raised the kids, Edna started working at Borger ISD in food service and retired after 18 years of service in 1985. After retirement, she spent time making ceramics as well as other crafts for years to come. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Billie Jean Hill; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Taylor and husband, Dearil, of Amarillo; three sons, Jerry Tidwell and wife, Sharon, of Borger, David Sargent and wife, Sandra, of Grapevine and Greg Sargent and wife, Deena, of Sugar Land; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Edna's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the BSA Critical Care Unit for their loving care of her in the final hours as well as the Bivins Memorial Nursing Home for their care over the past three years. Ms. Williams was born Feb. 3, 1946, in Marlin, the daughter of Hilesta and Horace Hayes Sr. She had worked for Custom Cleaners in Hereford for more than 20 years and was a member of Faith Mission Church of God in Christ. She was preceded in death by her father. Ms. Tyson was born Oct. 31, 1931, to Virgil E. and Dorothy Ruth Koepping Tyson in Chanute, Kan. She was a purchasing agent for the Pathology Lab in Santa Monica, Calif. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas, with the Rev. Marty Hamrick of Polk Street Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Cope Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Sorrenti was born Nov. 22, 1900, to Otis and Jimmie Lumpkin Trulove in Cleburne, Texas. Ora had taught in Texas public schools, most of those years in Amarillo, where she taught fourth grade at Wolflin school in the 1920s and later, sixth grade language arts and social studies at Alice Landergin school until retirement in 1966. She then moved to Farmington, where she taught first grade for eight years. She was initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society for teachers in 1951. Mrs. Sorrenti was an active member of Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo and of First United Methodist Church of Farmington. After retiring from teaching, she enjoyed many lovely trips to the Colorado mountains and various sites in New Mexico and Arizona in company with her daughter, Ann Trulove.
