Andrews Lagatha B. Andrews, 82, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Andrews was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Coleman County to Alex L. and Rutilla Crutcher. She grew up in Rockwood and Coleman County. She moved to Oklahoma where she met Lampert J. Andrews. They were married Dec. 24, 1944, in Sayre, Okla. Mrs. Andrews had a long professional career in the retail business. She was office manager and display director at Perry Bros. in Coleman before moving to Sayre as a store manager of Spears & Warren, a division of Perry Bros. She and her late husband, Lampert Andrews, moved to Cordell, Okla., to open a grocery store. They later returned to Coleman where she worked for the Burrs Department Store and J.C. Penney Co. In Abilene, she worked for WT Grant and Co. as a floor walker and cashier. In Amarillo, she worked in the women's retail clothing business at Blackburn's department store and was executive secretary to John W. Wright, president of Blackburn's, for more than 17 years. She was secretary/coordinator of volunteers for Northwest Texas Hospital for 6 years. She retired in 1986, but soon returned to work in 1990 as a sales clerk at the Pampered Lady dress shop. She briefly worked at Dunlap's before going to work at Helen's Fashions women's clothing store. Mrs. Andrews was active with the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Women's Council and worked with the Rural Homemakers Day for several years. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than 50 years and was president of the city council for Beta Sigma Phi in 1961-62. She was elected president of Xi Epsilon chapter in 1963. She was named Beta Sigma Phi Outstanding Member in 1964. In 1986, she helped found the first daytime chapter of the sorority for professional women, Exemplar-Preceptor Kappa Zeta. Mrs. Andrews joined the American Business Women's Association in 1963. She was president of the Charter Chapter in 1967 and was the Woman of the Year for the chapter in 1969-70. In 1975, she was general chairwoman for the southwest regional meeting in Amarillo, which drew members from Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nevada and New Mexico. She helped found the Tascosa chapter in 1978 and was the group's first president. The chapter named her 1979 Woman of the Year to recognize her work. She held several offices and chaired several committees in Tascosa ABWA. She served as president of the Tascosa ABWA in 1991-92 and 1994-95. The chapter named her Woman of the Year in 1996. She was preceded in death by her father in 1958; her mother in 1974; a brother, Luke Gail Crutcher in 1934; and her husband on Jan. 9, 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Andrews Coleman of Amarillo; five sisters, Neily Vie Bell of Lubbock, Edith Ada Norris and husband, Vernon, of Oklahoma City, Arliss Laverne Garner of Brownwood, Tressie Edrene Tucker of Mansfield and Ludy Jane Bryan of Santa Anna; a brother, Collis Timothy Crutcher and wife, Yvonna, of Waskom; two grandchildren, Tobi Beth Coleman of Yukon, Okla., and Shane Coleman of Amarillo; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Christian and Nicholas Dalton, both of Yukon; and many wonderful loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. "Joe" Young, 92, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Baptist Church in Canyon with the Rev. Gordon Cox, pastor, the Rev. Billy D. Nickell, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Amarillo, and the Rev. Thurl Barrett, retired Assembly of God minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Littlefield Memorial Park Cemetery in Littlefield with Matt Bales, grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Young was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Hominy, Okla., to Noah and Nellie Graham Young. He married Johnnie Hensel at Olton on Nov. 4, 1934. He pastored churches in the Texas Panhandle and Arkansas in the 1940s. He farmed in Lamb and Castro counties and after retirement, moved to Joplin, Mo., in 1976, where he ranched. He returned to the Texas Panhandle in 2001. He was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 15, 1985; a daughter, Martha Ann Young on Sept. 24, 1939; and five brothers, Roosevelt "Bud" Young, Wiley "Shorty" Young, Harvey Young, Noah Young and Eugene Young; and three sisters, Millie Capps, Nova Melton and Della Waggoner. Survivors include three daughters, Erlene Harris and Sue Strickland, both of Amarillo, and Loretta Bales of Neosha, Mo; six sons, Jody Young and Martin Young, both of Sunray, Ernest Young of Alamosa, Colo., Loren Young of Weatherford, Okla., Ronald Young of Lubbock and Tony Young of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Stowers of Canyon and Corda Carter of Denton; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Weir was born in Abilene to Henry G. and Mildred Weir. He graduated from Abilene High School. Mr. Weir then attended the University of New Mexico and McMurray College. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Weir married Mary Frances Smith in Abilene on Sept. 22, 1947. He was the owner and broker of Globe Real Estate in Amarillo until his retirement. He was a past president of Amarillo Board of Realtors, volunteered as a member of St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary and was also a HOSTS mentor. Mr. Weir was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 21, 1997. He graduated from Amarillo High School and University of Colorado at Boulder. He practiced as a certified public accountant in Texas and New Mexico. He was sole proprietor of his own practice. He married Bette Lamb in 1949, and she preceded him in death. He married Ann Butler Sewell in 1975. He was a member of Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and was appointed by Governor Dolph Briscoe to the State Board of Public Accountancy in 1977, where he served for 6 years as chairman of the ethics committee and later as vice chairman of the board. At the time of his death he was a member of The United Church of Angel Fire, serving as financial secretary and was executive director of Northern New Mexico Senior Men's Golf Association. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Bradley W. Wilson and wife, Debbie, Robert B. Wilson and wife, Nella, Brian E. Mrs. Hunt was born April 19, 1919, to Louis and Lilly Mae Hatchell Redding in Oil Parish of Caddo, Oil City, La. She went to be with the Lord on Oct. 31, 2004. She attended school at Prairie Grove in Saltillo. She then attended East Texas State College and West Texas State University. She married Dewey L. Hunt on Aug. 18, 1934, in Saltillo. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18, 2004. Louise was a member of First Baptist Church of Canyon. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. She was an excellent homemaker and an avid flower gardener. Louise retired from West Texas State University in 1984. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Cynthia Troxell Embery; and a son-in-law, Cloyce D. Troxell. Services were at 10 a.m. Friday in Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Miss Snodgrass was born Sept. 3, 1983, in Arlington to B. Neil and Jennifer Lynne Snodgrass. She graduated from Faith Christian School in 2001 and enlisted in the Air Force in January 2003. She was a member of the 68th squadron intelligence command at Brooks City Base in San Antonio. She was our beloved daughter and sister, the joy of our hearts. She is now with her faithful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
