Brown Sam L. Brown, 78, of Amarillo died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Davis, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Brown was born in Amarillo. He served in the Navy during World War II. In 1946, he began working for Santa Fe Railway. He retired in 1990 as a conductor after 44 years of service. He married Margaret Moore on July 15, 1948, at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lee Brown and Danny Brown and wife, Vanissa, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Eileen Bartholomew and husband, Larry, of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Elliott was born May 18, 1945, in Lubbock to Charles S. and Evelyn Roberts Elliott. He was a graduate of Pratt High School in 1962 and a graduate of Amarillo College, with a degree in electronics. He was employed by Pantex for 35 years. He married Barbara Readnour on Aug. 6, 1974, in Clovis, N.M. He was a Master Mason of the Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009. He was preceded in death by a son, Sam Leon Cook III in 1993. "Bud" Fassauer, 78, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004. Private family services were held. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Fassauer was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Vici, Okla. He served in the Navy during World War II in all combat theaters. During his business life, he was a contractor, business owner, entrepreneur and inventor who held many patents. As a contractor, he developed several new techniques that are still in use today in concrete construction. Whenever others saw difficulty, Bud saw an opportunity for change, and he worked to effect new "ways and means" to make life and careers easier. He married LaVon Laughlin on July 13, 1949, in Clovis, N.M. Bud had an abiding faith in Jesus Christ. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Bud was a loving and caring husband and father. He was preceded in death by a son, Brett. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Perry and husband, Ken, of Dallas; a son, Bryan Fassauer and wife, Nancy, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, Everett Fassauer and wife, Gwen, of San Antonio; and five grandchildren, Whitney, Blake, Paige, Michael and Mallory. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Jack Plum Allmon CLAUDE - Jack Plum Allmon, 95, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Mr. Allmon was born in Pittsburg, Kan., to William and Nellie Allmon. He married Glessie Donnelly in Pittsburg. Mr. Allmon was a "Penney" man for more than 36 years. Beginning in the small northeast Oklahoma community of Vinta, Mr. Allmon steadily moved up the ladder within the J.C. Penney organization. By 1949, he was working in New York City, where he worked in the main office with James Cash (J.C.) Penney, founder of the famous chain of stores. They remained close friends until Mr. Penney's death. Mr. Allmon retired from Penney's in Rapid City, S.D., in 1969, when he ran for mayor of the city. The only break in Mr. Allmon's managerial rise was for a tour of duty with the Army during World War II. He received an honorable discharge. As mayor, Mr. Allmon felt a strong compulsion to serve his community and state. He was always active in Rotary and served as Rotary District 561 Governor in 1966. He also served in the Family Service Organization, the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Improvement Association of Rapid City. Mr. Allmon also served the Rapid City Cancer Society, the United Fund, the Boy Scouts and his church. In the fall of 1971, Gov. Dick Kneip named Mr. Allmon the director of the state highway department. He resigned as mayor and commuted from Rapid City to Pierre, S.D., for the next six years. By 1974, Gov. Kneip named Mr. Allmon the secretary of tourism and economic development. In 1978, Mr. Allmon became the executive vice president of United National Bank and was finally able to stay in Rapid City until his retirement in 1983, when he and his wife moved to Rancho Bernardo, Calif. In 1998, he and his wife moved to Claude to be close to Glessie's sister, Betty McGowan. Jack loved to play golf and continued to play into his 80s. His cremains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean. Survivors include his wife and a son, Jack Allmon Jr. of Eagan, Minn. The family suggests memorials be to Armstrong County Museum, P.O. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born April 7, 1929, in Ramsdel to the late Mr. Lewis Powell and Mrs. Grace Kibbler Powell. He graduated from Shamrock High School and was a 1951 graduate of Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War, where he was ranked as first lieutenant. He married Roberta Leonard, and they had a son, Fred, and a daughter, Donna. They moved to Canadian in 1959, where Mr. Powell worked as a Soil Conservation Service agent for 10 years. Mr. Powell was a rancher and a cattle buyer and active in the community, serving as mayor of Canadian. In 1979, he married Jackie Mitchell in Canadian. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, National Cattleman Association and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Lewis Powell, on Feb. 23, 1976. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Palon and husband, Jerry, of Southlake; two granddaughters, Emily Grace Petree of Southlake and Jennifer Jung of Marlow, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Robin Mitchell of Canadian; a stepson, Mike Mitchell of Dallas; and an aunt, Mary Powell of McLean. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 7, 1988; a daughter; two grandchildren; four brothers; and a sister. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home Mr. Springer was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Hereford, the son of William and Annie Mae Springer. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1955 and attended West Texas State College until he started farming in 1957. He married Daleine Tinnin on June 2, 1957. Mr. Springer continued farming until 1981, when he became an agent with Farmers Insurance Group. Mr. Springer was also one of the first ranchers in the Texas Panhandle to start breeding Simmental cattle. He was a member of the Hereford Lions Club and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Albert Springer, and a granddaughter, Kirstin Grace Springer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by French Mortuary Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Mrs. Maynard was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Amarillo, Texas, to Margaret Augusta Patterson and Earl Leslie Mayne Sr. She grew up in Amarillo, where she attended Amarillo High School and Amarillo College. For a time, she worked on the editorial staff of the Amarillo Globe-News and for Trans World Airlines after graduating from Amarillo College. On Nov. 9, 1946, she married Curtis Gephart Maynard in First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. After their marriage, the couple moved to Albuquerque, where Curtis operated the New Mexico Co., a branch of Maynard Sash and Door of Amarillo. Afterwards, he spent the remainder of his working life as a stockbroker. Alice encouraged and supported educational efforts for her extended family and friends. She was a board member of the Ronald McDonald House, a member of the Albuquerque Junior League, and was active with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She served in the church library and participated in many Bible study fellowships. Alice was an enthusiastic supporter of community activities. She enjoyed the symphony, the opera, travel, art, and reading and her many friendships. She enjoyed ski trips with her family and friends and a family cabin in Tres Ritos. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 50 years. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Witcher, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Routh was born July 13, 1920. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps and attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He farmed in the Tucumcari area for many years. He also owned and operated a private air charter service in Tucumcari for many years. He was a flight instructor and had a commercial pilot's license for many years. He and his wife, Thelma, owned and operated the Van Ark Nursing Home for many years, and he also operated a nursing home in Fort Sumner. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Cardwell and husband, Gary, of Houston and a host of nieces and nephews. Sprouls, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Farwell, Texas. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in The Chapel with the Rev. Dean Turvaville officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Sprouls was born Jan. 23, 1921, to James C. and Mary Alma Mayfield Sprouls in Jayton, Texas. He was a certified public accountant and retired from his practice in 1991. Survivors include three sons, James C. Sprouls of Boise, Idaho, Scott M. Sprouls of Clovis and R. Tracy Sprouls of Albuquerque; and two brothers, the Rev. James C. Sprouls of Oklahoma City and Henry H. Sprouls of Tyler, Texas. Jack Flanagan, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Texhoma First Christian Church with the Rev. Donnie Callaway officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery by Dawson-Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Flanagan was the third son born to William Joseph Flanagan and Rosa Mae Smith Flanagan on May 10, 1924. He married Rosella Thrasher on Sept. 2, 1945. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve Flanagan and Joe Flanagan, both of Texhoma, and Keith Flanagan of Port au Prince, Haiti; a daughter, Koleta Stamper of Texhoma; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Lovie Goodman Wilson AUSTIN - Lovie Goodman Wilson, 78, formerly of Amarillo, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery Chapel in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilson was born April 24, 1926, to Mose Henry Goodman and Willie Lee Cole Goodman. She was a 1945 graduate of Amarillo High School. Most of her life was spent in the Texas Panhandle. She lived at the Fain Pioneer National Gas Plant and Turkey Creek Pioneer Natural Gas Plant, but her heart was always tied to Amarillo. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and volunteered at Northwest Texas Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Amarillo. She spent the last nine years in Austin, where she served as a volunteer at Purple Sage Elementary School and was active in pioneering the work of Oakwood Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Edward L. "Woody" Wilson. Survivors include a son, Mark Edward Wilson and wife, Ida, of Austin; two granddaughters, Heather Michele Wilson of Austin and Heather Hess Braden of Liberal, Kan.; two grandsons, Tres Hess of Stratford and Tanner Hess of Miles; two great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; her twin and lifelong soul mate, Dovie Garrett; three brothers; John Goodman, Joe Goodman and Jay Goodman; and many nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Eugene Roberts HORSESHOE BAY - Richard Eugene Roberts, 60, formerly of Amarillo, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in The Church at Horseshoe Bay. The study club will meet after the services at 115 Winchester. Local arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, in Amarillo. Mr. Roberts was born June 19, 1944, in Amarillo. He attended Lake Forest Academy in Lake Forest, Ill., for two years before returning home for his senior year and graduating with his class from Amarillo High School in 1962. He graduated from West Texas A&M University. He was president of Roberts Paper Co. in Amarillo from 1975 to 1998. He was former president of Southwest Paper Merchants Association. He was a member of several volunteer boards in Amarillo. He was president of Panhandle Planned Parenthood, Llano Cemetery Board, Children's Health Foundation and Family Support Services. He was a Master Mason, a York Rite Mason and a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple. He owned and operated Roberts Paper Co. at Marble Falls in Marble Falls from 1999 to 2004. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; two sons, Dr. Mills Roberts of Irving and Jim Roberts of Amarillo; a daughter, Eve Elliott and husband, Rob, of Sugar Land; three grandchildren, Lauren and Blake Elliott and Ali Roberts; his mother, Margaret Roberts of Dallas; a sister, Anne Albritton of Dallas; and a very loyal companion and friend, Mary Emma Roberts of Horseshoe Bay.
