Holden William A. Holden, 49, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter officiating. Mr. Holden was born Sept. 1, 1955. He married Carol Boon on June 25, 1977, at NWS Earl Naval Base in Colts Neck, N.J. He was in the Marine Corps. Mr. Holden was the owner of W.N.C. Marketing as well as the Quartermaster of Texas VFW No. 7782 and VFW Department Texas District 9 Commander. He also served on the Child Welfare Board in Clarendon. While living in New Jersey, he was a police officer, a member of the volunteer fire department, first aid squad, No. 2179 Color Guard and the Cooties. Mr. Holden was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. Mr. Holden was a life member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia "Pat" Holden. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Danielle Holden and Christine Holden; two brothers, Frank Holden and wife, Carol, and John Holden and wife, Jeri; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 13, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Pierce Walker MOBEETIE - Pierce Walker, 97, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in Wheeler. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church with Dick Irvin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mobeetie Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Walker was born Sept. 20, 1907, to Ollie and Mary Walker on the family farm at Mobeetie. He attended school at the Totty School and at Mobeetie. He married Nettie Henderson on May 28, 1930, in Hobart, Okla. Mr. Walker lived in Mobeetie all his life, moving only twice in 97 years, once was across the road to start raising his family and again in 1968 to the town of Mobeetie. Mr. Walker was a farmer and rancher. Pierce and wife, Nettie, were very active in First United Methodist Church. Mr. Walker was one of the first in organizing the Old Settlers' Reunion. He had been the oldest resident at the Old Settlers' Reunion since 1986, receiving many awards with great honor. Pierce's favorite hobby was spending time with his family. He was also a civilian firefighter at the Pampa Air Force Base during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; a daughter, Aline Corse; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Walker of White Deer; a brother, Kenneth Walker of Dumas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Church of Mobeetie or to Odyssey Health Care of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Wheeler. "Dub" Baldree, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, in Memphis, Tenn. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today in Bunavista Baptist Church with the Rev. David Langen, former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Baldree was born June 14, 1918, in Lipan. He was an operator at Phillips Petroleum Co. for 28 years until his retirement. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Cullen of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Michael "Mike" Baldree of Memphis; a brother, W.G. Baldree of Brackerville; a sister, Joy Collins of Wimberly; eight grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Fairlanes Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Riley, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Eddins was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Clair, Okla. She married Harold L. Eddins in February 1973 in Borger. Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe Trolinger of Skellytown; a daughter, Jackie Temple of Borger; two stepdaughters, Marla Jo Rablin of Houston and Renea Bright of Dewey, Okla.; a brother, Ronnie Earnest of Fritch; two sisters, Bobbie Jackson and Sue Kersey, both of Borger; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Simmons was a resident of the area the last 15 years. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Jeannie; a daughter, Sarah Simmons of Heavener; his mother, Eller Marie Simmons of Amarillo, Texas; four sisters, Marie Franklin of Dumas, Texas, Mary Brown of California, Hazel Gibson of Amarillo and Betty Mayfield of Sayre; six brothers, James Simmons of Washington, Dale Simmons, Charley Wayne Simmons, Jerry Simmons and Bobby Simmons, all of Amarillo and Jimmy Simmons of Memphis, Tenn. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 13, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Delmar Harrell Watkins DALLAS - Delmar Harrell Watkins, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. There will be a private graveside service. There will be a second memorial service in Pampa at a date to be announced. Mr. Watkins was born June 1, 1930, in Heavner, Okla. He was a graduate of Canadian High School in Canadian, Okla., in 1948. He then joined the Air Force, where he served from 1948 to 1951 while based in Alaska. He attended Oklahoma A&M from 1952 to 1953 and North Texas State University from 1953 to 1955. As he received his education from the aforementioned, he played basketball and excelled on these teams. Delmar was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Delmar was a Mason. He was a member of Northwood Club in Dallas, where he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and loved to be with his family. Mr. Watkins began his career with NCR and was a representative from 1955 to 1962. He was the owner and operator of 26 Gibson's Discount Centers from 1962 to 1983. He owned Handy Hammer Building Supply Centers from 1980 to 1988. He was in cattle ranching from 1966 to 1993 in McAlester, Okla. He was an oil and gas developer, producer and operator from 1976 to present. He was in commercial real estate from 1962 to present as president of Sandra Corporation. Delmar, who was also an author, had his first book published in October 2004. The name of the book is "The River of Life." He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Watkins and Lucille Culbertson Watkins. Survivors include his wife, Sandra; two sons, Joe Watkins and Mike Watkins; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Watkins; three grandchildren, Ross, Allison and Blake Watkins; and a great-grandchild, Averie Watkins. The family suggests memorials be made in his name to Scottish Rite Hospital of Dallas or Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Dallas.
