Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oasis Southwest Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Alan Ford and the Rev. Chester Beavers officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Norem was born in Limestone, Maine, and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. He was a phlebotomist at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital for several years. Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Norem of Stockman, Calif., and Jackie Tohlen of Modesto, Calif.; a son, Christopher Norem of Modesto; his parents, M. Ed and Dora Norem of Amarillo; two sisters, Connie Swicegood and Debbie Rikal, both of Amarillo; a brother, Tim Norem of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean conflict, where he received several awards and medals, including the Purple Heart. Survivors include a friend, Wilma Slawson of Amarillo; two sons, Marvin Ray of Amarillo and Jessie Wayne Ray of Colorado; two daughters, Carol Diaz of Amarillo and Lucille Dewey of Colorado; a sister, Marie Hinsley of Irving; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Roberts was born in Lelia Lake. He built and raced cars for Route 66 Speedway in Amarillo. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He retired after 24 years with the Santa Fe Railway and retired from TxDOT after working for them for seven years. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Ms. Silva was born April 27, 1919, in Fort Sumner, N.M. Juanita was a recognized and much appreciated member of the Catholic Daughters of America, committed to helping the poor and the needy. She belonged to the Damas Guadalupanas of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where she is highly remembered for her good deeds in favor of the needy. Juanita worked for Catholic Family Service for 33 years, from which she retired in 1984. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and her Franciscan family. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Goodnight Cemetery with the Rev. Jess Little, pastor of First Baptist Church of Claude, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Claude. Mr. Airington was born in Kenefic, Indian Territory, Okla., on Aug. 13, 1916. He had last worked as a sales representative for Hilti Fastening Services Inc. in El Paso. Survivors include his wife, Elsie; two sons, Dwight Airington and Tom Airington; a daughter, Gaytha Bryan; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. until noon Monday at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 21, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wanda Elizabeth Lacy Etheredge PAMPA - Wanda Elizabeth Lacy Etheredge, 80, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in Newton, Kan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Dan Snider, son-in-law of Mrs. Etheredge and pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Poplar Bluff, Mo., officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Etheredge was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Bishop to Tom and Elizabeth Lacy. Wanda was baptized in First Baptist Church of Bishop at a very early age. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1942. She married George O. Etheredge Jr., the love of her life, on Sept. 26, 1942, in Corpus Christi. They were married for 60 years before George preceded her in death in 2002. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pampa for more than 50 years. She served her Lord faithfully throughout her entire life. She was the precious mother of four children. Her life was devoted to caring for her family, her home and, later, her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and a seamstress, and she also enjoyed flower gardening. Wanda was also known for her willingness to help others at a moment's notice. Survivors include two sons, George O. Etheredge III, and wife, Nancy, of El Paso and Thomas Etheredge and wife, Cheryl, of Benton, Kan.; two daughters, Londa Etheredge Snider and husband, Daniel, of Poplar Bluff and Suzanne Etheredge French of Panhandle; a sister, Doris Gerrard of Rockport, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Thornton was born in Georgia on Jan. 29, 1910. She met her future husband when he helped change a flat tire on her father's car. They married on Dec. 30, 1928. She worked with her husband in the cotton compress and warehousing business in San Marcos, Corpus Christi and Tulia. Her greatest loves were her family, her church and visiting with the sick and elderly. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 21, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Juanita Marie Lavin BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. - Juanita Marie Lavin, 86, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004. Services were Wednesday, Nov. 3 in Bakersfield. Arrangements were by Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary in Bakersfield. Mrs. Lavin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Saturday, October 30, with her daughter by her side. Juanita was born March 12, 1918, in Frederick, Okla., and enjoyed a healthy, active life until her recent illness. Reared in Oklahoma, Juanita graduated from Frederick High School in 1936. She married Russell Lavin in 1940 and together they had three children. For 40 years Juanita worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for various companies in Oklahoma, Texas and California. She had been a resident of Bakersfield for the past 25 years. One of her greatest joys was watching her six grandchildren grow and reach maturity. She was also proud of her three children, remarking "Russell and I must have done something right." She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wallace J. Peters; and her husband of 44 years. Survivors include her children, Ron Lavin and wife, Rochy, of Miami, Tom Lavin and wife, Elise, of Amarillo, Texas, and Kitty Kendrick and husband, Greg, of Bakersfield; six grandchildren, Ron O. Lavin, Linda Lavin, Sandi Lavin, Brian Lavin, Tucker Lavin and Justin Kendrick; her special great-grandchild, Kevin Lavin; and two sisters Venita Bentley of Enid, Okla., and Jackie Hyder of Glenpool, Okla.
