Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Warford-Walker Mortuary Chapel, 509 N. Hughes St., with the Rev. Jim Brown, parish life coordinator at St. Martin Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Watson was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Mobile, Ala., to Joe and Millie Watson. He attended school in Saraland, Ala. He married Lonnie Jones in Saraland and one child was born to this union. He joined the Army in 1944 and served in World War II and the Korean conflict. He served abroad for many years and retired from the Air Force in 1969. After his military retirement he served as a deputy sheriff for Potter County and later retired from ICX Trucking as a truck driver. Survivors include his wife; a son, Frank Watson Jr. of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Sondra Gail Dawn of Abilene, Charmaine Love, Arthur Shoels and Destiny Watson, all of Amarillo, and Marcus Watson of Wichita, Kan.; 18 great- grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 22, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Victor McCaig Victor McCaig, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jerry Coffman officiating. Mr. McCaig was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Bono to Barney and Veda (Lafever) McCaig. He married Edith Conover on June 1, 1946, in Tucumcari, N.M. He worked for the Amarillo Fire Department for more than 30 years, where he retired as captain in 1978 from Station Seven. He retired from the City of Amarillo in the traffic engineering department after 23 years, for a total of 57 years of service with the City of Amarillo. He served his country in the Navy during World War II on the USS Stockton. One of his greatest joys was being Santa Claus at Sears for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Kory Gwyn on June 8, 2000. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Strecia McCaig and Lisa Bellar and husband, Paul, all of Amarillo; and a sister, Juanita Martindale of Amarillo. Bell St. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Clifton married Sandra on May 30, 1985, in Amarillo. He was owner-operator of Texas Glass for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella "Snookie" in 1985; and a son, Bryan Clifton in 1991. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ken McLain of Dallas, Michael Broyles of Panhandle and Richard Broyles of Amarillo; two daughters, Debbie Heath of Canyon and Lori McLain of Amarillo; three sisters, Jean White, Lois Clifton and Joyce Clifton; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. James E. Garrett, senior minister of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Mrs. Travis was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Hutchison County to Joseph Daniel and Ruby Cole Archer. She was assistant manager of the Social Security office and retired after 25 years service. Mrs. Travis was active in many civic, social and ancestral organizations serving in various offices. Some of the organizations were the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Colonial Dames of the 1700s and Federated Republican Women. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She married Eldrid G. Travis in 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 20, 1991; and two brothers, John M. Archer and Ernest D. Archer. Survivors include a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. David Evans of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Roberts was born in Lelia Lake. He built and raced cars for Route 66 Speedway in Amarillo. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He retired after 24 years with Santa Fe Railway and retired from TxDOT after working for them for seven years. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Willie Roberts of Amarillo; a sister, Jovida Davis of Amarillo; four children, Charles Ernest Roberts and wife, Amy, of Austin, Marelina Brown and husband, Mike, of Brady, Ronald Gene Roberts and wife, Leila, of Weatherford and Stephanie Carole Woodard and husband, Ronny, of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, Clay, Brock, Marlinda, Michaela, Kasie, Logan, Hannah, Nathan and Jordan; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Odessa. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Mainous was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Atoka, Okla. She graduated from high school in Quail in 1938. She married Leslie Kutin in 1939. He passed away in December 1966. She then married E.D. "Pete" Mainous in 1969. He preceded her in death in August 2000. She was preceded in death by her husbands; and a son, Richard Kutin in 1972. Survivors include two sons, Chris Kutin of Amarillo and Alex Kutin of Indianapolis; two sisters, Lena Jett Allen of Amarillo and Ora Jett Simpson of Pocatello, Idaho; a brother, Richard Jett of Stratford, Okla.; three stepbrothers, Everett Anderson of Maude, Okla., Floyd Anderson of Asher, Okla., and Aaron Anderson of Shawnee, Okla.; numerous grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, and the Rev. Tommy Ewing officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Thornton was born in Georgia on Jan. 29, 1910. She met her future husband when he helped change a flat tire on her father's car. They married on Dec. 30, 1928. She worked with her husband in the cotton compress and warehousing business in San Marcos, Corpus Christi and Tulia. Her greatest loves were her family, her church and visiting with the sick and elderly. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if their is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
