Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with David Veasey of Amarillo Baptist Church officiating. Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday in Jarratt Cemetery in Jacksonville with Dr. Bruce Webb of Central Baptist Church of Jacksonville officiating. Mrs. Allee was born Oct. 20, 1909, in VanZandt County to Lee and Lula Huddleston. She grew up around Jacksonville with nine brothers and sisters. She married Floyd E. Lovelady in 1926 and he preceded her in death in 1933. She then married C.T. Allee in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1968. She has outlived her whole family. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Floyd E. Lovelady in 1987. Survivors include a son, Berl Loveday and wife, Ines, of Tyler; two daughters, Dorothy Walls and husband, James, of Amarillo and Claudine Mellinger and husband, Wayne, of Jacksonville; and several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Osage St. Mrs. Evans has lived in Sanford for more than 12 years. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessica Evans; her parents, the Rev. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Opal Faye Monroe Messer CLARENDON - Opal Faye Monroe Messer, 85, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Jack Hutson, son-in-law, officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Messer was born March 1, 1919, in Temple, Okla. She moved from the McKnight community in Donley County to Clarendon in 1941. She married Alvin Andrew "P.C." Messer on Oct. 28, 1939, in McKnight. For most of her life, Mrs. Messer was a child care provider to many, many Clarendon children, who lovingly knew her as "Nano." She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 19, 1987; and a grandson, Michael Messer in 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Katrina Hutson of Vanderbilt; a son, Tom Messer of Claude; two sisters, Jo Ann Felder of Sunray and Mary Lou Keisling of Dumas; three grandchildren, Clay Messer, John Mark Hutson and Holly Hassialis; and a great-grandson, Hunter Messer. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elmer Lester Venable CLAUDE - Elmer Lester Venable, 93, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Claude Cemetery with Kent Watson, minister of Claude Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Venable was born June 1, 1911, in Huckaby, Erath County. He was a resident of Bovina before moving to Claude almost 30 years ago. He married Viola Lee "Polly" Malone on Nov. 24, 1930, in Lovington, N.M. He had worked much of his life as a trucker and had worked for Parmer County for several years as a heavy equipment operator before his retirement. He was a member of Claude Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 4, 2002; a daughter, Patricia Ann Venable in 1933; a son, Elmer Stanley Venable in 1995; two brothers, Vester Cleatus Venable in 1976 and Chester Cirby Venable in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jean Salmon and husband, Don, of Claude; a daughter-in-law, Dannie Lovina "Tessie" Venable; a brother, Elton Radford Venable of Bovina; two sisters, Vila Mae Wilkerson of Corpus Christi and Sara Marie Wilkerson of Amarillo; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Whitson was born July 29, 1914, in Garber, Okla., and had lived in the area since 1934. She married Jack Whitson on Nov. 29, 1934, in Sunray. She taught fourth grade at Spearman Elementary School from 1958 to 1978. She was a member of First Christian Church of Spearman, O.E.S. and Spearman Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 5, 1979; and her parents, Charles and Ruth King. Survivors include three sons, Bill of Spearman, Bob of College Station and Tom of Powell, Wyo.; two daughters, Betty and Frances, both of Dumas; a sister, Barbara Jean Finley of Houston; two grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. She married Edgar "Edd" Wright on Nov. 2, 1942, in Barnstable, Mass. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and the light of our lives. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Wright; and a daughter, Joy Lee. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with the Rev. Tom Summers officiating. Arrangements are by Finch Funeral Chapel. Mr. Kincaid was born March 10, 1945. He was a veteran of the Air Force, where he proudly served his country in Vietnam, Germany, Japan and Turkey before retiring after 25 years. Mrs. Kincaid was born Feb. 12, 1956, to Jerry R. and Carrie Schuh Lawson. Mr. Kincaid's survivors include three sons, Richard William, Gerald Alan and Timothy Wayne; four granddaughters; and a brother, Pat T. Kincaid. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 7, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon Myrtle Ruth Cross Myrtle Ruth Cross, 105, of Canyon died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004. Memorial Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Ms. Cross was born Sept. 10, 1899, in Wichita, Kan., to Byron and Sarah Goulding Cross. She moved to Canyon in 1927 and was dean of women at WTAMU for 45 years. She attended Fairmont College in Wichita and American College of Physical Education in Chicago. She also attended the University of Wichita Teachers College, Columbia, N.Y., University of Washington, and University of Michigan. She established self-government for women students at WTSU and helped establish the National Social Fraternity System on campus. She was active as a volunteer with Canyon Chamber of Commerce, Panhandle Heritage Foundation, Red Cross, Cancer Society, AAUW, and Texas Association of Women Deans and Counselors. She was named the Woman of the Year in 1950 by the Canyon Chamber of Commerce and WTSU awarded her the Faculty Excellence Award in 1969. Ruth Cross residence hall is the first instance of naming a hall after a living faculty member. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Glenn Cross, Carl Cross, P.C. Cross, Homer Cross and Earl Cross; and two sisters, Hazel Cross and Pearl Cross. Survivors include two nephews, Dr. Jon Byron Cross of Santa Fe, N.M., and Norman Cross of Chadds Ford, Pa.; two nieces, Miriam Michealson of Trege, Wis., and June Jennings of Boerne; her other family, Beverly Soll Carter of Canyon and Ruth Soll Cooper of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Shelly Lynn Cross of Los Alamos, N.M., Katherine Ruth Cross of Anchorage, Alaska, John Douglas Cross of Bozeman, Mont., and John Michael Cross of Santa Fe; and her caregivers, Angie Mullins of Amarillo and Melissa Box of Canyon.
