Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Childress with the Rev. Grover Neal, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery in Childress by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Barnes was born March 2, 1921, in Waxahachie. She attended school in Ellis County. She was employed by Hargraves Laundry and First Methodist Church of Childress until her retirement. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church after moving to Amarillo in 1999. Survivors include her husband, Edward; two stepdaughters, Mary Welch and Joyce Frost, both of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Vigil was at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Dalhart with the Rev. Robert Busch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Mrs. Hesse was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Dalhart to August and Cheniel Hesse Jr. She graduated from Dalhart High School, Amarillo College and West Texas State University. She married Leon Wilhelm in September 1985. She was named Woman of the Year and Outstanding Young Women of America. Mary Lou taught swimming lessons at the family farm in Dalhart for many years. Mary Lou was an LVN and worked for Coon Memorial Nursing Home. She taught for Satellite Day Care Center and worked as a RN for Amarillo Area Hospital Home Care from 1984 to 1991. Mary Lou had a strong faith and love of life. She loved animals and devoted much of her life to her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jamie Joe Hesse; her mother; and her husband. Survivors include a sister, Becky Mitchell and husband, Jerry K., of Dalhart; two brothers, August Hesse III and wife, Barbetta, and Jason Hesse and wife, Melody, all of Canyon; her father of Dalhart; her nieces, Jamie Gillispie of Dalhart and Jocelyn Mitchell of Amarillo; and her nephews, Jody Bob Mitchell of Midlothian, Va., and Whitley and August Hesse IV, Justin Hesse and Jarod Hesse, all of Canyon. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Nowell married his wife, Emma, on Dec. 24, 1975, in Amarillo. Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Gilliam of Bosque Farms, N.M., and Lorene Nowell of Springdale, Ark.; a brother, Dea Nowell of Jal, N.M.; his wife; two daughters, Theresa Synoraraj of Amarillo and Beverly Gray of Panhandle; a son, Larry Scheller of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Markham-Hoyal was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Amarillo to Homer and Helen Markham, and had spent her life in the area. Mrs. Markham-Hoyal was a member of Quail Creek Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and was retired from the Center for Mental Health and Retardation, where she had served as chef. She was married to her husband, Glade Duward Hoyal for 63 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and three sisters. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Duwanna Fay Hull and husband, Mike, and Marilyn Kay Jones and husband, David; four grandchildren, Misty Pantel, Chris Jones, Jennifer Eslinger and Tammy Jackins; and five great- grandchildren. Mr. Stafford was born April 23, 1950, in Dalhart to Alex and Martin (Turbyfill) Stafford. He was raised in the Coldwater Community and ranched there his entire life. He was a member of Texas Quarter Horse Association and First Baptist Church of Texline. Alex enjoyed rodeos and had competed in saddle bronc and bare back riding. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Desirae Stafford of Dallas; a sister, Judy Lawrence and husband, Craig, of Dalhart; and two nephews, Ty Lawrence of Canyon and Cody Lawrence of Dalhart. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Stribling and the Rev. Curtis House officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. White was born May 25, 1950, in Canyon to Joe Athel White and Mary Rose O'Donald White. He moved to Happy in 1967 and graduated from Happy High School in 1968. He served in the Army from October 1968 to March 1972, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Jill Szydloski in Happy on May 23, 1970. He was a paramedic and fireman in Happy and Canyon for a number of years, and was a deputy for Randall County for 10 years. He was a self-employed farmer, and a devoted and loving husband, dad and Pawpaw. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Happy. He owned and operated DJW Trucking Inc. He was preceded in death by his father in 1989; his stepmother, Martha White in 1995; his father-in-law, Leo Szydloski in 1995; and his mother-in-law, Louise Szydloski in 2004. Survivors include his wife; two sons, DeJay and wife, Mandy, of Denton and Max and wife, Brandi, of Happy; his mother, Mary Watson of Crawford, Neb.; two sisters, Debbie Kelly and husband, Wayne, of Chadron, Neb., and Linda Davis of Augusta, Ga.; three grandchildren, DeJay Alexander White of Denton and Brayden and Ashlyn White of Happy. Norris, Ph.D, 67, of Canyon died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, in Amarillo. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Dr. Norris was raised in Phoenix and attended Arizona State University, where she met her husband, the handsome football star Robert Norris. Soon thereafter arrived the first of two daughters, Elizabeth. Edith relocated frequently as Bob pursued his doctorate degree and finally ended up in Stillwater, Okla. During this time she taught public school for more than 25 years. Along the way came the second daughter, Jennifer. After the passing of her husband, Edith obtained her doctorate in education. Being independent and adventurous, Edith accepted assistant professorships at UT El Paso and, in 1997, at WTAMU. Edith had been looking forward to relocating once more to California to be with her 14-year-old twin grandchildren and the second set of boy/girl twin grandchildren who are due in March. She will be remembered as kind, intelligent, dedicated and fun by all who knew her, and firm but fair (but mostly caring) by her students. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
