Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Hammack was a member of Panhandle Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Association for 24 years and was the membership chairman for them for 22 years. She will be greatly missed. She and her husband, Ralph, were married for 57 years. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Judy Hammack of San Antonio; a son, Rick and wife, Vickie, of Amarillo; two grandsons, Brent Hammack of Amarillo and Brandon Hammack and wife, Carrie, of Claremore, Okla.; two great- grandchildren, MaCaley and Mitchell; and three sisters, Lucille Beeson and Wanda Culver of Altus, Okla., and Peggy Phelps of Spokane, Wash. The family suggests memorials be to the Bluegrass Music Scholarship Fund at South Plains College in Levelland. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Hughes St. Mrs. Jeffery was born in Kilgore and was a member of Shiloh Cathedral of Praise. Survivors include a son, the Rev. Patrick Phillips and wife, Alice, of Jackson, Miss.; a sister, Mary E. Edmonson of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Janie Jeffery of Amarillo; and a host of relatives and friends. The family will be at 1419 N. Jefferson St. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Ann Chapman Pursley Jo Ann Chapman Pursley, 73, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004. No services will be held. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Pursley was born to Frank S. and Thelma Thompson Chapman on June 27, 1931, in Borger. The family moved to Amarillo in August 1931. Mrs. Pursley graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. She attended the University of Texas and received her degree from West Texas State University. Mrs. Pursley was married to William Culwell in 1959. The marriage ended in divorce. She married V.M. "Budd" Pursley in 1962. He passed away in 1990. Mrs. Pursley was a pioneer in Amarillo television and also worked for KGNC Radio. She was a secretary for George McCarthy, an attorney, for 12 years and was employed at Pioneer Gas Co. from which she retired in 1988. Survivors include her aunt, Aldine Thompson Marshall of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Laurene Mansfield of Amarillo and Debra Giddens and husband, Dallas, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two stepgrandchildren, Brandon Giddens of Casa Grande and Daniel Mansfield of Amarillo; and two cousins, Betty Thompson Riley of Amarillo and Wallace Thompson of Borger and their children and grandchildren. "Bill" Black, 86, of Canyon died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald and the Rev. Roy Byrd officiating. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Black was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Canyon to James Clayton Black and Alice Beatrice Caraway Black. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1937. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Italy during World War II, where he flew 51 combat missions during the European Theater. After the war he returned to Canyon, where he received his BA and master's degrees at West Texas State University. He taught at Borger High School for 28 years. He was very active in his church, serving as a deacon and elder. Bill's love was helping the children of his church. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Texas Teachers Association. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Roland Black in 1982, J.M. Black in 1998 and D'Jelma Smith in 1989. Survivors include three sisters, Betty Jo Schneider of Kingman, Ariz., Katy Jean Byrd of Toyahvale and Chloe Ann Black of Canyon; a sister-in-law, Deta Black of Dallas; two nieces; and seven nephews. Mrs. Stapp was born in Perryton. She was a schoolteacher, model and retired as a naval intelligence officer. She attended Victory Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Stapp on Dec. 15, 1986; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sixth Street Church of Christ in Friona with Hal Blackburn of Canyon and Leon Talley, minister, officiating. Private burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Blackburn was born March 20, 1924, in Alex, Okla., to Thomas and Ethel (Davenport) Blackburn. The family moved to Friona in 1929, where he attended school. He married Betty Jean Mayfield on Nov. 16, 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marines in the Okinawa and China Theatres. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1960 and owned and operated Blackburn's Ladies Ready to Wear for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Claude, John and Dean Blackburn. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jill Anella and husband, Dr. Ben Anella, of San Diego; three grandsons, Jimmy, Jason and Justin, all of San Diego; a granddaughter, Jennifer of San Diego; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Largent was a cosmetologist and a clerk at Gordon's Drug in Spearman for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 10, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flo Carlile Nichols TULIA - Flo Carlile Nichols, 79, formerly of Tulia and Dimmitt, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ with Eben Emerson officiating. Arrangements are by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Nichols was born in Peacock on Oct. 17, 1925, to Marvin and Lura Carlile. She attended school at Roby until she was 14 when the family moved to Tulia. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1943 and attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene. She married John Will Nichols on Aug. 7, 1943, and in 1946 moved to Dimmitt, where they lived for 21 years. They had two sons, Jack and Tom. Mrs. Nichols was a dedicated homemaker and very active in the local church, Cub Scouts, Band Parents, athletic booster clubs and various community activities. In 1967, Flo and John Will moved to Tulia, where she was very active in family genealogy. She was a member of National Society of Colonial Dames, National Society of the Court of Honor, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and was a charter member of Palo Duro Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, Jeff Carlile. Survivors include two sons, Jack Nichols of San Jose, Calif., and Tom C. Nichols of Fort Worth; a brother, Winford Carlile of Hobbs, N.M.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O.
