Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Murray Gossett, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Ms. Rich was born in Amarillo on Oct. 5, 1965. Whitney attended Bonham Junior High School and Tascosa High School. Over the years, she has been a resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., Austin, Amarillo and Reno. As her life's work, Whitney was an accomplished graphic designer. As her life's art, Whitney was the mother of her four beloved children. Whitney shared her spirit of joy and laughter with all who crossed her path. She possessed a deep love for her family and friends, which was returned. She will be very missed by all, including her special dogs, Frank and Beans. Survivors include four children, Kelsea, 18, Colton, 17, Tamarin, 14, and Haven, 3; her mother, Myra Avant of Amarillo; her father, Jimmy Rich of Beaumont; a sister, Kris McElligott of San Antonio; a brother, Jay Rich of Houston; her grandmother, Anita Rich of Amarillo; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. "Curly" Wolken, 78, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with J. Alan Ford, pastor of Southwest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Wolken was born and raised in Forth Worth. He served in the Navy in World War II on the USS Bootes. He moved to Amarillo in 1948. He married Anne Edwards on Dec. 8, 1949, in Amarillo. He worked as an installer for Western Electric for 36 years before retiring in 1984. After retirement, Mr. Wolken worked as a clerk for the Department of Human Services for more than seven years. He was a Methodist. Mr. Wolken enjoyed joking, playing golf, collecting clowns and most of all, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Traci Berner and husband, Steve, of Amarillo; two sons, David Wolken and wife, Cindy, of Amarillo and Randy Wolken of Dallas; his stepmother, Mary Jane Wolken of Houston; and four grandchildren, Kurt Wolken and wife, Krysta, Shelby Wolken, Cooper Wolken and Haylee Berner. Mrs. DeFries was born April 1, 1928, in Shawnee, Okla., to John Inman and Pearl Rogers Inman. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Roy D. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Dutton was born Feb. 23, 1977, in Hale County. He grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School. He graduated from Lubbock Christian University with a bachelor's degree in Bible and a master's degree in family ministries and Bible. While at LCU, he was a member of the Kyodai Christian Social Club. He graduated from the Chris Cole School for the Blind in Austin on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004. He was looking forward to earning an early childhood certificate and working in children's ministry. He was a member of a Family Life Group in Lubbock and Green Lawn Church of Christ. Survivors include his parents, Alan and Terry Dutton of Tulia; a sister, Jenny Owens of Denton; a brother, Marshal Dutton of Denton; his paternal grandmother, Verna Dutton of Tulia; and his maternal grandparents, Bonnie and Dale Carlile of Tulia. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mrs. Lee was born the daughter of W.M. and Minne Hackney Griffee on Oct. 24, 1919, near Gatesville in Coryell County. She married Otis Lee on March 4, 1939, in Abilene and moved to Hereford on their honeymoon, where she had lived since. Costaline was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in all activities, especially the W.M.U. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Gladys Merritt and husband, G.C., of Hereford; three grandchildren, Micki Baulch and husband, David, of Odessa, Mitch Merritt of Amarillo and Missy Wilcox and husband, Scott, of Hereford; a brother, Austin Griffee of Shawnee, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 23, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James G. "Jim" Cloyd CANADIAN - James G. "Jim" Cloyd, 78, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004. Rosary services will be said at 6:30 p.m. today in Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. John C. Barragan officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Cloyd was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Hereford to the late Mr. E.R. Cloyd and Mrs. Bessie Hargrave Cloyd. Jim's family had been in the cattle business and connected to the Panhandle for well over a century. He started cowboying as a young boy. Jim graduated from Canadian High School in 1944. He was also a 1957 graduate of Texas Tech University, where he received a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry. While at Texas Tech, he was the first masked rider, known as the Red Raider, after Texas Tech joined the Southwest Conference. Jim was a veteran of the Navy aboard the USS Providence during World War II. Jim worked for the 6666's, Matadors, U Lazy S, Mill Irons, Triangles, and Brainard Ranches of Texas and also worked for the Kern County Land and Cattle Company and the Diamond A's in Wasco, Calif. As a young man, Jim enjoyed rodeoing and also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad on two different occasions. After the war, Jim returned to Canadian and worked with his father at Cloyd's Custom Slaughtering. He married Lynda Cagle on Nov. 19, 1965, in Pampa. That same year, Jim followed in his father's footsteps by becoming the sheriff and tax assessor/collector of Hemphill County, where he served proudly until 1972. In November 1976, after four years in the penned cattle industry in Hereford, Jim worked for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in Stratford, where he retired after more than 20 years. He was commissioned as a Special Texas Ranger by the Texas Department of Public Safety and as an Oklahoma Ranger by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations, serving as a certified peace officer in both states. Upon retiring, in 1997, Jim was a member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas, the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Legion and was a board member for the River Valley Museum in Canadian. Jim was happiest when he was astride a good horse working cattle or just being out for an afternoon ride enjoying God's creation. His word was his bond and was always there for family and friends. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. While his physical presence will be missed by all who truly knew him, the wonderful memories he helped create and values he instilled will always be cherished. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Cloyd, and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Cloyd. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Cloyd and wife, Melissa, of San Angelo and James Cloyd of Amarillo; a daughter, Susan Day and husband, Rick, of Andrews; four grandchildren, Grayson Cloyd and Makenzie Cloyd, both of San Angelo, and Jed Day and Jake Day, both of Andrews. He attended the University of Oklahoma Law School and practiced law in Beaver for more than 60 years. Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Knapke of Beaver; a son, Keith Drum Jr. of Yorba Linda, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Furrow was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Major County to George Monroe Furrow and Birdie Burnett Furrow. On July 3, 1937, he married Sarah Winford Johnston at Junction City, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a son, Johnny George Furrow of Alton, Ill.; a daughter, Arbutus Jane Furrow; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Delmer Furrow of Portland, Ore.; and a sister Billie Allen of Bonner Springs, Kan.
