Mrs. Howard was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Muleshoe. Mrs. Zink was born May 29, 1927, in Buffalo, Okla. She married R.L. "Bob" Zink on May 14, 1948, in Buffalo. She had lived in the area since 1958, moving from Dalhart. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Louise Brown, and a brother, Roy L. Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Ardie Pearson, in 1987. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 27, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bennie Lucile O'Daniel Blair Bennie Lucile O'Daniel Blair, 88, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Blair was born Dec. 25, 1916. She married Robert Lee Blair in March of 1936. She worked as a nurse for 28 years at Shamrock Hospital, McLean Hospital and Groom Hospital and retired at the age of 78 years from Park Place Towers in Amarillo. Lucile was a loving, caring and compassionate person who loved the Lord and her family and friends. She was the oldest of 10 children and was raised in Claude. She raised her children in Clarendon and Shamrock. She was a brave and courageous woman who taught her children to support and love one another, just as she had. Laughter filled the home and was of utmost importance to her. She attended church at Trinity Fellowship in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Lonnie Eugene Blair; a grandchild, Crist Braaten; a great-grandchild; her father, Richard O'Daniel; her mother, Blanche O'Daniel; two sisters, Ann Hurd and Ruby Webb; and four brothers, Tom O'Daniel, Bob O'Daniel, Roy O'Daniel and Paul "Cotton" O'Daniel. Survivors include nine children, Doris Braaten of Billings, Mont., Judy Morris of Clarendon, Jerry Blair of Amarillo, Sandy McConnell of Rush Springs, Okla., Betty McGuire of Dallas, Wanell Marshall of South Padre Island, Mary Blacksher of Wellington, Bill Blair of Shamrock and Dan Blair of Irving; a brother, Ralph "Buck" O'Daniel of Phoenix; two sisters, Barbara Leidholt of Miles City, Mont., and Marie Radcliff of Pampa; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie O'Daniel of Amarillo and Marie O'Daniel of Albuquerque, N.M.; 26 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jo Roberts Mann officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Rivers was born June 27, 1940, in Hollis, Okla., to Arthur Garland Rivers and Loudella Olene Rivers. As a teen, he raised two siblings after his parents' premature deaths. He married his childhood sweetheart, Pat Jacks, on May 9, 1956. He graduated from West Texas State University and Texas Tech University School of Law with honors while also working to support his family. He helped to organize the Tech chapter of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity and served as president of the American Trial Lawyer's Student Advocacy Club while at Tech. Mr. Rivers began his legal career as briefing attorney for Chief Justice James A. Ellis of the 7th Court of Appeals in Amarillo. He served as county and district attorney of Ochiltree County for more than four years. He began private law practice in 1981. He was one of the primary founders of the Panhandle Family Law Association and was recently awarded the 2003 Panhandle Family Law Leadership Award. He was a member of the Amarillo Bar Association, past member and president of Northeast Panhandle Bar Association, past member of Harley Owner's Group and past chairman of the Democratic Party in Perryton. For many years, he was a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. He was board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1989. He served as attorney for the board of directors at Ochiltree General Hospital for many years. He was active for several years and on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity and served as a volunteer judge several years for the Tascosa High School debate team. Mr. Rivers courageously battled cancer for the past two years. A quote from a friend and colleague: "Nearly 50 years ago, Bill was a kid on the streets and certainly one entrapped in circumstances. It is perhaps his unique background that made him the type of lawyer he was - honest, sincere, hardworking, respected, and perhaps more importantly, unpretentious in sometimes a seemingly very ostentatious or pompous world." In addition to his law practice, he loved motorcycles, woodworking, photography, computers and daily coffee with friends at Denny's on Georgia and Love's on Hollywood Road. He was an Episcopalian and a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. Survivors include his loving wife; two daughters, Jan Plequette and husband, Tom, and Michelle Moore and husband, Greg, all of Amarillo; a brother, Bob Rivers of Goodwell, Okla.; a sister, Kathy Sundberg of Salmon, Idaho; six grandchildren, Katie, Kristi and Kari Plequette and Megan, Logan and Macy Moore; and a very special mother-in-law, Mary Richey. Mrs. Brown was born in Washington, D.C., to Harold and Grayce Johnson. She grew up in Florida and North Carolina. She graduated from Durham High School in Durham, N.C., in 1954. She had been a resident of the Amarillo area since 1955. She married Irl Brown in Amarillo on Sept. 5, 1956. She was a charter member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She was active in the Lake Tanglewood Arts and Crafts Club and served as past president. She was active in the Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. Mrs. Brown supported the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo, the Rajin' Cajun Special Olympics annual dinner and the Amarillo Meals on Wheels program. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Webb Brown and wife, Carla, of Amarillo and Matthew Brown of Richardson; three daughters, Sharon Brady and husband, Joe, of Claude, Melinda Davis and husband, Steve, of Tulsa, Okla., and Helene Garst and husband, Butch, of Plains, Kan.; a sister, Arlene Frost and husband, R.J., of Morgan City, La.; and six grandchildren, Lauren Davis and Erica Davis, both of Tulsa, Carlee Garst, Mandee Garst and Laynee Garst, all of Plains, and Ashley Brady of Claude. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 27, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- E.D. "Ed" Shoemaker E.D. "Ed" Shoemaker, 71, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Shoemaker was born March 8, 1933, to Earl and Minnie Shoemaker in Jewell County, Kan. An avid sports fan, he loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed outdoor cooking for family and friends. His barbeque ribs were awesome. Mr. Shoemaker loved to tend his backyard garden with his grandson and entered several vegetable competitions at the Tri-State Fair each year. He grew Halloween pumpkins for all the neighborhood children. Mr. Shoemaker attended his early education in a one-room schoolhouse in the country, graduated from Glen Elder High School and then attended Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, Kan. As a young man, Ed played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers farm club and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean conflict. He married Mary Sue Williams of Pueblo, Colo., on July 7, 1956. Mr. Shoemaker retired from Woolworth/Woolco after 32 years as general manager in Amarillo. Subsequently, he founded High Plains Transmission Service and most recently was employed by the AC Neilson company. He was an active member of Kiwanis and a past board member of Goodwill Industries. He and his wife were among the founding families of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Terri Susan Kitts and husband, Tom, of Amarillo; a son, Greg Shoemaker of Lubbock; a grandson, Trevor Kitts of Amarillo; a sister, Myrth Stephens of Kerrville; numerous nieces and nephews; and five loving cats, Bobbie, Yeller, Blackie, Buffy and George. Doug Fox officiating. Arrangements are by Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Mrs. Sullivan was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Keystone, Ind., to Maude McPherson Gaiser and George S. Gaiser. She had many occupations in her life, but cherished her role as a caregiver the most. Maxine was a very loving person who had a heart of gold. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie S. Sullivan; three brothers, Raymond, Berl and Bobby Gaiser; and a grandson, J.W. Graham. Mrs. Judy was born Sept. 4, 1905, in Beaver County to William and Grace Danks Schmoker. She married Thomas Arthur Judy on May 23, 1928, in Liberal, Kan. Survivors include a son, Ronald Judy of Gate; a daughter, Carol Johnson of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
