Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Polk Street United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Dr. Jarvis was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Chicago to Critt and Midge Jarvis. He was raised in Evanston, Ill., Herman, Neb., and Dallas, where he graduated from North Dallas High School. He received his BA degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., his MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama and his master of divinity from Perkins School of Theology at SMU. In order to earn money to go to London and Paris to work on his dissertation, Dr. Jarvis was a professor at Erskine College in Due West, S.C. On July 25, 1980, he married Mary Johnson in Wichita Falls. For 28 years, Dr. Jarvis served the following congregations in the North Texas and Northwest Texas Conferences of the United Methodist Church: Bryson UMC, First UMC, Wichita Falls (associate pastor), University Park UMC (associate pastor), Southwood UMC, Glen Oaks UMC, Lakeridge UMC (associate pastor) and Slaton UMC. Dr. Jarvis' last appointment prior to retirement was as district superintendent of the Pampa District, Northwest Texas conference. Following his retirement from the ministry in 2000, Dr. Jarvis and his family moved to Amarillo and became active members of Polk Street UMC, where he was a frequent and popular teacher of youth and adults. Dr. Jarvis was a mentor, friend and confidant to many. He served in a variety of volunteer capacities in Amarillo, including CASA and as a board member of Friends of the Amarillo Library. At the time of his death, he was working as a permanent substitute teacher at Tascosa High School. Dr. Jarvis was an avid student of diverse subjects ranging from quantum physics to world religions, philosophy and great works of literature. Among his great loves were his family, friends, cooking, history, and stimulating conversations. Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Crittenden Jarvis; his mother-in- law, Dorothy Johnson of Tyler; three brothers, Doug Jarvis and wife, Pat, of Hendersonville, N.C., Wayne Jarvis and wife, Frances, of Little Rock, Ark., and Critt Jarvis and wife, Amy, of Hull, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ms. Andrews was born Kena Jean Rucker on Dec. 13, 1955, in Plainview to W.A. "Bill" and Patsy Guice Rucker. She grew up in Quitaque. Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Donna Rucker and Anne Rucker- Smith; three children, Dana Marie Contreras, Raymond Arthur Andrews Jr. and Sueleta Jean Andrews; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash and Monsignor Francis Smyer officiating. Mrs. Dee was born April 1, 1914, to Leslie Keith Johnson and Jessie Herring Johnson in Vernon. Louise was a granddaughter of C. T. Herring. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1937 with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Mrs. Dee served in the Navy from 1943 to 1944. Louise Dee was the widow of Homer Wessel "Bill" Dee. Louise and Bill were married from 1977 until Bill's death in 2002. Mrs. Dee owned a gift shop in the Herring Hotel for six years. She also taught ballroom dancing lessons at the Gene Galle Studio. Mrs. Dee was a partner for a time in Custom Trophies and The Little Brown House. She was a member of St. Mary's Church at the time of her death. She had served on the Altar Guild and in other activities at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Dee was a member of Junior League of Amarillo and Garden Club. Mrs. Dee was an active supporter of the arts in Amarillo. She was a charter docent of Amarillo Art Center and a supporter of Amarillo Symphony, Lone Star Ballet, and Amarillo Opera. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Cornelia Johnson Slemp; and her husband. Survivors include a niece, Jane Slemp Burgess and husband, C.C.; three great- nephews, Charles Coney Burgess Jr., Cornelius Campbell Burgess and Carson Herring Burgess; a great-niece, Charlotte Louise Burgess Griffiths; three great-great-nephews; a great-great-niece; and family cousins active in her life including Christine Ware, Cathleen Ware and Judge Arthur Ware. Georgia St. Mrs. Richardson married Virgil Richardson in Cimmaron, Kan., in 1951. She retired from Cominco-American in 1987 after 17 years. She was a loving, wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan, in 1991. Private family graveside services will be held. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Clayton was born July 21, 1916, in Amarillo to Mary Ellen and Cleo Guy Clayton Sr. He served with the Army Infantry during World War II and received four Bronze Stars for combat service. He was past commander of VFW Post 1475. He had practiced law as an attorney in Amarillo for more than 50 years. He was a member of Polk St. United Methodist Church, where he had taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Ferguson was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Shattuck, Okla. She married DuWayne Thurman in 1947 and they made their home in Perryton. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Gordon was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Macon, Ga., to Lee and Sadie (Nabors) Stringer. Shortly after, the family moved to the Texas Panhandle where Emma Zue attended the Hartley and Dalhart schools. She graduated from Dalhart High School. After graduation, she went to work for Citizens State Bank for more than 30 years. Emma Zue and Hugh Gordon married Jan. 25, 1945. They continued making Dalhart their home, where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies). She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, Zac and J. B. Stringer; and three sisters, Ludell Hann, Ruth Lewis and Susie Johnson. Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Berkley Stringer of Dumas and Jake Stringer of San Antonio; and a sister, Marjie Urban of Anaheim, Calif. Mr. Long was a native Texan, who was employed with AT&T for 28 years as a communications technician. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church of Amarillo, Texas. He will be remembered as one who loved his pets, family, friends and his Harley-Davidson.
