Murphy Robert G. Murphy, 76, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Roy Wheeler, Scott Greer and Mark Zimmerman officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter 26. A second service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill. Burial will be in Valhalla Garden of Memories Cemetery in Belleville. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Murphy, dedicated husband, devoted father and proud grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday. Bob was born Nov. 6, 1928, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Charles and Eva Murphy. It was there he developed childhood friends that lasted a lifetime. Bob proudly served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Shirley Mae Egan, on Sept. 10, 1949. They moved to Belleville in 1959. After a successful career at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, Bob answered the call of his life as he entered into full-time Christian ministry. He received his bachelor of arts degree from St. Louis Christian College in May 1967. His first pastorate was at Kingshighway Church of Christ in East St. Louis. Following this ministry, he served for 20 years as pastor of Los Alamos Christian Church in Los Alamos, N.M. During this time, he earned his master of arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University. This past October, the Los Alamos Christian Church honored him for his years of vital service. He culminated his active ministry at Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo, where he served as minister to senior adults for 10 years. He remained a faithful member of Paramount Terrace and ministered to this congregation, which he dearly loved, until the time of his death. Bob was known for his honor, selflessness, kindness, and keen intellect, but the foundation of his life was his Christian faith and his beloved family. We will forever cherish the memory of Bob Murphy, the husband, father, grandfather and friend. We give thanks to God for the life of this loving man. He will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years; his parents; and his brother, Gilbert Murphy. Survivors include a son, Gary Murphy of Germany; two daughters, Janet Case and husband, John, of Houston and Gail Murphy of Newark, Ohio; two granddaughters, Janelle Case of Galveston and Julie Case of Austin; and an extensive group of close and cherished friends. Bell St. Mrs. Hunt was born Dec. 22, 1954, in Hale Center to Carl and Ann Vick. She was a volunteer spokesperson for the United Way, a volunteer for American Cancer Society Cattle Baron's Ball, and volunteered for the mentoring program at Horace Mann Middle School. She loved her husband and son dearly. She was a caring wife, mother and daughter. She loved flowers, gardening and more than anything she loved children. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Sheldon Jefferson, her grandson and a minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Jefferson was born to Millie Mae and William Jones Fisher on Nov. 7, 1932. She graduated from Springville High School in Springville, Ala. She married Jack M. Jefferson in May 1951. They moved to Amarillo in January 1952. Dr. Jefferson graduated from West Texas A&M University in 1969 with a teaching field in speech and English. She later added teaching endorsements in teaching the emotionally disturbed, learning disabled and mentally handicapped to her teaching certificate. Dr. Jefferson earned her master's degree as all level counselor, special education, educational diagnostician and mid-management. She finished her doctorate in education in October 2004. Her first teaching assignment was in Happy. While living in Amarillo, she taught at Carver, Palo Duro and Tascosa High School, where she was vocational adjustment coordinator. She was listed in Texas Who's Who in Texas Education in 1975-1976. She served as president of the River Road Educators, a group associated with TSTA and NEA before she retired as director of guidance and counseling for River Road ISD. Dr. Jefferson retired after 29 years in education in December 1996. She was a Baptist. Siegeler on Aug. 14, 1944, and gave birth to two sons during that marriage. Louis J. Siegeler died in May 1981. Edith was a homemaker and a faithful member of Fairview Assembly of God Church for more than 40 years. She studied ballet during her school years. She attended college at NTAC in Arlington before leaving to take acting classes at the Pasadena Community Play House in Pasadena, Calif. She toured the United States with the USO as a dancer for 11 months, visiting more than 100 Army and Navy bases before returning to Dallas. She married N.H. "Red" Baldwin on Sept. 10, 1946, in Dallas. They moved to Tulia in 1954 from Dallas after Red Baldwin received a job as a CPA. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church, serving on boards, as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She was also a member of garden club. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hooper. Zevilla Lynn (aka "Villa" or "Lynn"), 98, passed away at 3 a.m. January 13, 2005, at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home. She was the last surviving member of one of the more colorful Texas Panhandle families. Born in Memphis in 1906, she was the daughter of Cora and Stephen A. Pierce, who with his son Guy Pierce, was a noted city constable and peace officer in Clarendon during the early part of the last century. She was married to Earl "Shorty" Lynn from 1923 to 1983, when he passed away. They had one son, Billy Earl Lynn, a Merchant Marine and veteran of World War II and Korea, who passed away in 1987. Her grandson, Steven Pane, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, passed away in 1997. She spent nearly all of her adult life in Amarillo and worked from 1951 until she retired as a buyer and head of ladies ready-to-wear at Colbert's Fashion Store. She was a real character, great gambler, card player and wonderful storyteller. When she quit smoking, she was asked, "Why? You're 93 years old! What's the point?" Her reply was, "Because they don't mean nothing to me anymore." Probably one of the best answers ever uttered regarding a reason for the end of that woeful habit. She had a long illustrious life and huge spirit and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Billy Earl Lynn; three brothers, I.B. Pierce, Guy Pierce, and Stephen Pierce; a sister, Pauline Allen; and a grandson, Steve Lynn. Thelma was a valued employee for 21 years in the engineering department of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1976 to enjoy her family, gardening, decorating, candle-making and cooking. Tipton, in 1997, and her first husband, Patrick Leo O'Grady, on March 29, 2002. He lived most of his life in Amarillo, and from age 16 on, made his home with his grandmother, Montene Merchant. He married Christine Griffin on March 14, 2004. They had recently moved to Dalhart. Cody was born with severe asthma and spent all of his short life on medication. He died suddenly due to complications from asthma. During his short life, Cody had many trying and hurtful times. Cody had a very forgiving nature toward those who had turned their backs on him during those times and years. In the past two years, Cody had completely turned his life around, which brought him a lot of happiness. Cody had found the love of his life when he met Christine. He loved going to the car races, working on automobile engines, going to the river to play in the mud, playing games on the computer, talking to his family on the phone when he was hauling long distances and driving his truck. Mrs. Rodgers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great- great-grandmother, was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Howell, Ark., the daughter of James and Larra Ollie Reneau. She and her husband, A. E. "Dick" Rodgers, who preceded her in death in 1992, moved from Arkansas to Amarillo in 1941. He specialized in home remodeling. Mrs. Rodgers was primarily a homemaker but also was employed by the Amarillo public school system and by the Southwest Convalescent Center. She was an active Christian who loved her Lord and her family. The Rodgers' home was always a center of activity, most of the time involving family. For many years before retirement, they were members of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Rodgers supervised the construction of many of the church's buildings. The Rodgerses moved to Howardwick on Greenbelt Lake near Clarendon after retirement, but Mrs. Rodgers returned to Amarillo following his death in 1992. She lived at 903 Bonham until losing her sight in 1994 and had lived with her daughter, Anna Sain, and her family at 3606 Linda prior to moving to the nursing home in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, David Allen Druin; her parents; six brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include her three daughters, Mrs. Larra R. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Haynie was born near Paducah on Oct. 29, 1916. Her parents were John Vester Gravley and Ludie Ida Graves Gravley. For many years, Mrs. Haynie lived in Gilroy, Calif., and was a presser for a dry cleaners. After she returned to Amarillo, she helped her oldest sister, Anna Lillian Clark, operate a taxi service for the Santa Fe Railway. She lived in Amarillo for 47 years. She was a member of the Wild Rose Club and Central Church of Christ. She will be remembered for her love of people, especially children, and also cats, birds and squirrels. She enjoyed feeding them and watching their antics in her yard. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two sisters, Anna Lillian Clark and Ruby Tyler; a brother, John V. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 19, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Allen Roberson LADY LAKE, Fla. - James Allen Roberson, 65, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005. An open house in celebration of James' life will be Saturday, Jan. 29, and Sunday, Jan. 30, in the home of Donna Roberson in The Villages. Arrangements are by Beyers Funeral Home. Mr. Roberson passed away peacefully in his home with his entire family and his dog, Murray, at his bedside. James will be fondly remembered as a loving father, devoted husband and loyal brother. He was a faithful friend and mentor to many and was an upstanding pillar in the community. James will be sorely missed. James was born June 16, 1939, in Telephone, Texas, to Ethel and Reginald Roberson. Growing up, James worked for the Santa Fe Railway before the Army drafted him for service at Fort Ord in Monterey, Calif. After his tour, James returned to Texas, where he started several restaurants with his mother to help feed the men building Interstate 40 through the Southwest. James met Margot McMillen, married and had two beautiful daughters, Holly and Heather. Living in Fulton, Mo., he was an active member of the community and was involved in building a new hospital. James was always thinking of others. James moved to Traverse City, Mich., in 1991, where he served as manager of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors. He later became the northern division manager of Real Estate One, and ultimately became the general manager of Century 21 Pearson-Cook. He had an amazing rapport with people and was able to guide with a strong but loving hand. In Traverse City, he met the love of his life, Donna Mae Dobler and the two were married in 1992. While in Michigan, he loved boating, golfing and watching Michigan football with his friends. He retired from Century 21 in 2004 and moved to their paradise at The Villages. Survivors include his wife; his two daughters; his mother; a brother, Jerry; two sisters, Beverly Ash and Brenda Pride; his stepchildren, Christine Dobler and Jeff Dobler and wife, Paula; and his adoring grandchildren, Noah and Phoebe. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. McCoy was born June 12, 1922, in Roby to Cecil Otho Gardner and Susie Elizabeth Josey Gardner. She spent her life in service to her God, church, family and friends. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1940 and married Mack Allen McCoy on Aug. 25, 1940. In 1952, with her husband who was by then the Rev. Mack McCoy, she founded and nurtured Amarillo's Hamlet Baptist Church, where the couple served from 1952 to 1970. Together they served congregations at Temple Baptist Church in Medford, Ore., between 1970 and 1971 as well as Calvary Baptist Church in Euless from 1972 to 1974. Mrs. McCoy worked for Texas Employment Commission as a counseling interviewer in Dallas and later Amarillo from 1972 until retirement in 1986. She served the Amarillo Widowed Persons Association in a number of capacities from 1994 until 2004. She was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church and the Adult V Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by two sons, John and David McCoy; a daughter, Genebeth McCoy; and her husband. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Jerry McCoy and wife, Julie, of Dallas and Roger McCoy and wife, LaDona, of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Christian Assembly Church in Hereford, Texas. Mr. Greenway was born Sept. 8, 1944, in Frederick, Okla. He was a veteran of the Navy. He was a lifelong resident of the Amarillo area. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1991. During his retirement he worked for the Happy Independent School District. He also enjoyed working with the elderly at a local nursing home. He loved his farm, horses, animals, fishing and his family, which included one great-grandchild on the way. He will be missed by many friends and family.
