Stocking, 91, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Marty Hamrick and the Rev. Renae Haiduk, both associate pastors of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Stocking was born in Hereford. The family moved to Plainview in 1922, where he attended public schools. He went to Lubbock in 1931 to attend Texas Tech University. While in college he worked at the Hilton Hotel. In 1935, he moved to Amarillo and was employed by Commerical Credit Co. He later joined Morrow-Thomas Hardware Co. as an officer and sales manager. In 1955, he and Bud Curtis purchased Amarillo Supply Co. He operated that firm until 1980, when he sold the company and retired. Mr. Stocking was known among his freinds as "Socks." He married Cathryne Allen in 1938. She passed away in 1976. They had one son, Don Allen Stocking and a granddaughter, Suzanne. He married Nancy O'Brien Allen in 1979. Mr. Stocking was a longtime member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and was on the administrative board. He was also a member of Amarillo Country Club and enjoyed golf and cards with his friends. He was active in civic and industrial supply organizations around Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; and other survivors are a son, Don and Susan Stocking of Conroe, granddaughter, Suzanne Stocking of Austin, John and Vicky Allen, John, Courtney and Austin Allen and Stephanie and Neal Spencer, all of Homestead, Fla., Judy and John Clower of Colleyville, Mary and Taneia Gervig of Tyler, Melissa, Shawn and Riley Widener, all of North Richland Hills, and Mike, Eileen, Megan and Mike Allen Jr., all of Miami, Fla. Bell St. Mr. Hendricks married Leona Hensel on Aug. 3, 1941, in Amarillo. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Pantex after 31 years of service. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lee Turner in 2002. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 28, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amarillo Stanley W. "Stan" Taylor: 1938-2005 Stanley W. "Stan" Taylor, 66, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005. Services are pending with Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Stanley Watson Taylor was born in a house in Memphis on Oct. 19, 1938. He was third of five children born to V.L. and Frankie Taylor. He moved with his parents to Amarillo where they established a furniture and appliance business when World War II was over. Stan was baptized into Christ when he was a teenager. He graduated from Amarillo High School the last year it was Amarillo's only high school. He majored in marketing and minored in Bible at Abilene Christian University, earning a bachelor of science degree in marketing. He served as president of the university orchestra, played French horn with the Big Purple Marching Band and was a professional musician with both the Abilene and Amarillo symphony orchestras. He married his college sweetheart, Joella Rose, on Nov. 24, 1962, in Liberal, Kan. Stan owned and operated Taylor's Furniture and Appliance in Amarillo, where he carried on his father's passion for serving his customers. He later established more locations with his two sons, Scott and Stuart Taylor. Stan was involved in numerous animal conservation groups and had an extensive love for hunting and outdoor life. He was a past president of Amarillo Executive Association and held numerous positions in various civic clubs and organizations. He was preceded in death by his mother; a younger brother, Donald Lee Taylor; his father; and an elder sister, Dr. Marian Giles. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Scott Taylor and Stuart Taylor and wife, Autumn, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Hunter, Darby, Jack Stuart, Zane and Channing Rose Taylor, all of Amarillo; a brother, David A. Taylor of Amarillo; an aunt, Coceil Streetman of Amarillo; a sister, Vivian A. Taylor of Payson, Ariz.; two nieces; five nephews; and 13 great-nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Wright was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Knox City to Clyde C. and Grace Acker Browning. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. While attending college, she met her future husband, Dean Wright. The couple were married Dec. 23, 1942, in Borger. Mrs. Wright was a teacher and taught fourth grade in Borger for 27 years where they made their home. Later, they moved to Amarillo where they retired. Mrs. Wright was an active member of Help One Student to Succeed and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. J. Allen Ford of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. All of his life his friends called him "Gizmo." He was raised on a dairy farm in Tyler by his grandparents. He enlisted in the Marine Corps when he was 17 and earned his high school diploma and two years of college while serving. After his discharge from active duty, he spent two years in reserves and worked for Chemical Express Transportation for 31 years. He owned his own trucking company for 11 years and worked for Schwerman Trucking for two years. He married Doris Marie Lucas on June 11, 1965, at Temple Baptist Church in Amarillo. He worked hard all his life for his family, never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and loved to "cook out" for his family and friends. He received great joy from playing practical jokes. He leaves behind a legacy: telling jokes, happy and smiling. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clarence Gibbs and wife, Lana, and Alvie Gibbs Jr., all of Amarillo; two daughters, Margaret Gibbs Williams and husband, Grady, and Ann Gibbs Borsheim and husband, David, all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Shawn D. He loved history and was always well read on current events. Mr. Sweet loved the outdoors, running, walking, fishing and camping with his faithful dog. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Harrington, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hagler was born July 14, 1937, in San Angelo to John and Louise Monroe. She was a Dumas resident since 1964. She married Jerry Alvin "Pops" Halger on Feb. 19, 1956, in Coleman. She babysat for years and worked in a nursery at First United Methodist Church. She was secretary for the city of Dumas for several years and alos worked for Continental Telephone Company. In October 1952, she received on of the country's highest medals for human valor, the Carnegie Hero Medal Award, for the kind of bravery for which the recipient risked his or her life. She loved to garden, cook, and most of all, be with her children and grandchildren. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed. She's our hero in heaven now. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 10, 2001. He was third of five children born to V.L. and Frankie Taylor. He moved with his parents to Amarillo, where they established a furniture and appliance business when World War II was over. Stan was baptized into Christ when he was a teenager. He graduated from Amarillo High School the last year it was Amarillo's only high school. He was a Boy Scout and an original member of the Kwahadi Indian Dancers. He majored in marketing and minored in Bible at Abilene Christian University, earning a bachelor of science degree in marketing. He served as president of the university orchestra, played French horn with the Big Purple Marching Band and was a professional musician with both the Abilene and Amarillo symphony orchestras. He married his college sweetheart, Joella Rose, on Nov. 14, 1962, in Liberal, Kan. Stan owned and operated Taylor's Furniture and Appliance in Amarillo, where he carried on his father's passion for serving his customers. He later established more locations with his two sons, Scott and Stuart Taylor. Stan was involved in numerous animal conservation groups and had an extensive love for hunting and outdoor life. He was a past president of Amarillo Executive Association and held numerous positions in various civic clubs and organizations. He was preceded in death by his mother; a younger brother, Donald Lee Taylor; his father; and an elder sister, Dr. Marian Giles. This award is presented to a Texas physical therapist, honored and recognized for outstanding work in direct patient care physical therapy. She was preceded in death by her father. He graduated from Amarillo High School and the University of Oklahoma, and received his medical degree from North Western Medical School, where he specialized in general surgery. He returned to Amarillo in 1951 and practiced surgery for 25 years. He was an original member of the Amarillo Surgical Group. After retirement in 1974 at the age of 54, he worked for Hamiltion College as the school physician. He also volunteered in Ecuador, Peru, and the Navajo hospital in Ganado, Ariz., before traveling the world with his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Wetzel Klingensmith. The family moved to Plainview in 1922, where he attended public schools. He went to Lubbock in 1931 to attend Texas Tech University. While in college, he worked at the Hilton Hotel. In 1935, he moved to Amarillo and was employed by Commercial Credit Co. He later joined Morrow-Thomas Hardware Co. as an officer and sales manager. In 1955, he and Bud Curtis purchased Amarillo Supply Co. He operated that firm until 1980, when he sold the company and retired. Mr. Stocking was known among his friends as "Socks." He married Cathryne Allen in 1938. She passed away in 1976. They had one son, Don Allen Stocking, and a granddaughter, Suzanne. He married Nancy O'Brien Allen in 1979. Mr. Stocking was a longtime member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and was on the administrative board. He was also a member of Amarillo Country Club and enjoyed golf and cards with his friends. He was active in civic and industrial supply organizations around Amarillo. He was third of five children born to V.L. and Frankie Taylor. He moved with his parents to Amarillo, where they established a furniture and appliance business when World War II was over. Stan was baptized into Christ when he was a teenager. He graduated from Amarillo High School the last year it was Amarillo's only high school. He was a Boy Scout and an original member of the Kwahadi Indian Dancers. He majored in marketing and minored in Bible at Abilene Christian University, earning a bachelor of science degree in marketing. He served as president of the university orchestra, played French horn with the Big Purple Marching Band and was a professional musician with both the Abilene and Amarillo symphony orchestras. He married his college sweetheart, Joella Rose, on Nov. 14, 1962, in Liberal, Kan. Stan owned and operated Taylor's Furniture and Appliance in Amarillo, where he carried on his father's passion for serving his customers. He later established more locations with his two sons, Scott and Stuart Taylor. Stan was involved in numerous animal conservation groups and had an extensive love for hunting and outdoor life. He was a past president of Amarillo Executive Association and held numerous positions in various civic clubs and organizations. He was preceded in death by his mother; a younger brother, Donald Lee Taylor; his father; and an elder sister, Dr. Marian Giles. She earned her master's degree in physical therapy in 1994 from Texas Woman's University. In Dallas, she worked at the Presbyterian Hospital, where she was awarded Employee of the Year. She spent the last part of her physical therapy career at BSA and Region 16 in Amarillo. In October 2001, Bonnie received the Ruby Decker Award, a Texas Physical Therapy Association/Anonymous Donor award. This award is presented to a Texas physical therapist, honored and recognized for outstanding work in direct patient care physical therapy. She was preceded in death by her father. Mrs. Floyd was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Hobbs, N.M., to William and Onnie B. Dabbs. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School in 1953. She married Calvin Floyd on Sept. 9, 1977, in Portales, N.M. She worked as an accountant for Amarillo National Bank, Air Speed Oil Co. and Cloth World. She loved art, jigsaw puzzles, cats and estate and garage sales. She was of Church of Christ faith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beth Allen. Survivors include her husband; a son, James D. Mrs. Graham was born April 21, 1913, in Shawnee, Okla., to Martha and John W. Renegar. They moved to Amarillo when she was a young girl. She married Farris Monroe Graham in 1930 in Tucumcari, N.M. She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God Church. Her family was the center of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; and a sister. She married Lloyd Johnson in Clovis, N.M., on Nov. 11, 1932. She worked many years at Doche Cleaners and retired from Levi Strauss in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Nina Helen Thomason; her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Geneva Long and Grace Elizabeth Boone; a brother, Hillman John Cannon; a grandson, Michael Ray Johnson; and two great- granddaughters, Amber Leigh Underwood and Latosha Underwood. Roger Harwerth officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground Cemetery in Winthrop, Ark., where Mrs. Smith's parents are buried, by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Martha Morgan Smith died peacefully at her home in Borger surrounded by her family. She was 93. Born in Winthrop on June 22, 1911, Mrs. Smith was a resident of Borger since 1939. Well remembered for her warmth and charm, she was a successful retail businesswoman in Borger until her retirement in 1992 at the age of 80. Throughout her career, she managed several stores to include Ollie Hare's Men's and Ladies' Store, Alex Levine's Ladies' Store, Cartwright's Fabric Shop and Cartwright's Specialty Store. Mrs. Smith was active in civic work, serving the Girl Scouts, the Lioness Club of Borger and the Borger Jayceettes. She was also president of the La Ventana Book Club and was a longtime member of the Borger County Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olive Hamblin and Arthur Morgan Jr.; a sister, Lunda Morgan; and four brothers, Rual, Dana, Arthur and James Morgan. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Shultz of San Francisco; a son, Charles Sam Smith III of North Carolina; a son-in-law, George P. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Lakan Mariano officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Hammond was born in Clovis on June 10, 1919, to Lee and Grace Hammond. He was raised on the Lee Hammond ranch in Curry County. He attended school at Field and graduated from Clovis High School. He went to Washington and Lee University, Oklahoma State University and the University of New Mexico and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He ranched and farmed with his father and brother on their ranch, which was established in 1915. They raised commercial cattle and wheat. Mr. Hammond also built an outstanding herd of quarter horses. He raised horses that competed in halter classes, performance classes and racing. He raised excellent ranch horses. Mr. Hammond particularly enjoyed riding cutting horses. Survivors include his wife, Darlene; four daughters, Martha Richardson and Leigh Willmon, both of Clovis, Linda Turner of Borger, Texas, and Kim Mariano of San Angelo, Texas; sons-in-law, Mike Willmon, E.W.
