Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead officiating. Private family burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. The family is thankful to our Father in Heaven that our mother died peacefully at home in her sleep. Mrs. Whittenburg was born Aug. 19, 1919, to Louis Palma McKee and Jewel Porter McKee on the family farm in Eastern New Mexico. She graduated from high school at 14 years of age and attended college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and West Texas State University in Canyon. At 17 years of age, as a senior with one semester of college remaining, she married Roy Robert Whittenburg in her parents' home on Feb. 14, 1937. Her death on Valentine's Day, 68 years later to the day, marks a very fitting conclusion to a life devoted to her husband and children, exemplified by her untiring leadership and guidance in all her children's educational endeavors and their many other activities as well as her hands-on loving care of the five generations touched by her life. Mrs. Whittenburg served on the executive committee of the board of Girlstown, USA (now part of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch) and served on the board and as president of Amarillo Bankers Wives Club. She was a member of Amarillo Junior League, Amarillo Council of Garden Clubs, Christian Women's Association and First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 29, 1980; an infant grandson; and an infant great-granddaughter. Survivors include seven children, Evelyn Coltrin and husband, Don, of Houston, Anne Johnston and husband, Murray, of San Antonio, and George Whittenburg and wife, Ann, Mack Whittenburg, Burk Whittenburg and wife, Carol, Lois Rowley and husband, George, and Roy Whittenburg Jr., all of Amarillo; a sister, Lois McKee King of Bartlesville, Okla.; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 S. Bowie St., Amarillo, TX 79109. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 6703 Palacio Drive. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Murray Gossett of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. McGuire will be interred beside her husband, Ted, who died in 1979. Survivors include two sons, Don McGuire of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Jerry McGuire of Montgomery; a daughter, Marilyn Morris of El Paso; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 17, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Denise Ann Baker Denise Ann Baker, 42, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bible Baptist Temple with the Rev. Greg Waggoner, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Baker was born in Childress and raised in Amarillo. She was a 1980 graduate of Palo Duro High School and attended Amarillo College in the computer science program. She married Bruce Baker in 2002 in Amarillo. Mrs. Baker had worked for Levi Strauss and Affiliated Foods. She was a homemaker and loved being a mom to her own children as well as others. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sara Baker of Amarillo; two sons, Cody Baker and Zachery Baker, both of Amarillo; her parents, Don and Essie Mae Burt of Amarillo; four sisters, Donna Havron, Deborah Walls and Delores Geiser, all of Amarillo, and Francis Graves of Houston; two brothers, Raymond Thomas of Bakersfiled, Calif., and Rodney Thomas of Midland. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Younger was born in Horton, Ala., on Oct. 10, 1927, to Charlie and Edna Thornton. She and her husband, Jessy Younger, moved to Amarillo in 1954. She was employed as a church nursery worker at South Georgia Baptist Church and South Lawn Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Ann Clancy of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Dave Younger of Millsap; five grandchildren, Chris Clancy, Matthew Clancy, Haley Younger, Taylor Younger and Austin Younger; three sisters; and five brothers. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Marsh was born in Lawton, Okla., and had worked for Turbo/Exchange Transmission. He loved racing. He married Janetta Garrett on April 27, 1983, in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Weldon Marsh; his grandmother, Verna Mae Patterson; and his stepfather, Claude Terry Persefield. Survivors include his wife; his mother and stepfather, Sue Ellen and Joe Liles of Amarillo; two daughters, Denise Rose Hasten and husband, John Scott, and Tammi Anthony, all of Amarillo; two sons, Joshua Dean Marsh and Jerry Franklin Marsh, both of Amarillo; two honorary sons, Mario Reyna and Jay Brandenburg; a sister, Alison Marsh of Yeom, Wash.; his grandfather, Frank Patterson of Amarillo; his mother-in-law, Rosa Dotson of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Kaylea Mae Hasten of Amarillo; two godsons, Robert Williams and Payton Lane; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Coursey was born in Lubbock to Pete and Ravenell Todd on May 16, 1941. She received her master's degree from Texas Tech University. She taught school for 29 years. She was a devout Christian and a strong witness for her Lord and Savior. Survivors include two sisters, LaNell Wise and LaJuana Holland and husband, Wendell, all of Amarillo; a niece, Kristi Vagrosky and husband, Chuck, of Amarillo; a nephew, Grady Enos of Conroe; and two great-nephews, Hunter and Chaz. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Moses was born in New York City and was a man of many trades. He let life carry him throughout the country until he found Christ. He believed in a full quiver and took pride in all of his children. Henry had many blood children but he adopted every other child that stole his heart. Henry Moses believed that a good leader led by example and he did. Tingo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel in Amarillo, 1505 Martin Road, with Dan Shaeffer officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Miami Cemetery. Mr. Barnes moved to Miami in 1974 from Tarzan. He graduated from Gotebo High School in Gotebo, Okla., in 1953. Mr. Barnes then served in the Army in Germany. He retired from Cabot Corp. in 1987 after 25 years. Mr. Barnes was a bookkeeper and produced and sold honey. He also bred and exhibited Quarter Horses for many years. He loved going to the lake and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Miami. He was preceded in death by a brother, Theron "Sonny" Barnes in 2001 in Amarillo; and his father, Sanford O. Barnes in Hobart, Okla., in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Denise Nelson of Dallas and Kristi Guzinsky of Amarillo; his mother, Alen Barnes; a brother, Manlif "Shorty" Barnes of Birmingham, Ala.; and four grandchildren, Rhiannon Griffin, Jonathan Griffin, DeLaney Guzinsky and Darlen Guzinsky. Mrs. Griffin was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Shamrock to Frank and Juanita Howell. She married Bobby Griffin on Jan. 1, 1956, in Shamrock. Janice had lived in Shamrock all of her life and worked as a waitress. She was preceded in death by a son, Frankie Griffin; and two grandsons, Joey Griffin and Robert Griffin. Survivors include her husband; a son, Alvie Griffin of Sherman; two daughters, Debbie Navarrez of Bryson and Manita Zaiontz of Shamrock; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Howell of Shamrock. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darren Skinner, pastor, the Rev. Jordan Grooms and the Rev. Clifford Trotter, both retired Methodist ministers of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. McDougal was born March 11, 1915, in Ringgold to Barnett H. and Jennie Hughes Clark. She married Claude C. McDougal on June 17, 1951, in Holbrook, Ariz. They came to Hereford from Littlefield in 1954. She taught English at Hereford High School for several years before retiring to take care of Claude and their farming interests through his 10-year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 18, 1970. The family suggests memorials be to Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship Fund, 201 N. Texas St., Hereford, TX 79045. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Weaver was born Jan. 14, 1940, in Buffalo, the son of Genava and A.L. Weaver Sr. He married Annie Booker on Oct. 22, 1962, in Clovis, N.M. Mr. Weaver retired in 2004 after having worked for Marcum Motor Co. more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Weaver of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Kay Weaver and Barbara Weaver, both of Albuquerque; three brothers, Albert Weaver of Corpus Christi, and Leath Weaver and Bill Weaver, both of Dallas; three sisters, Ophalean Sweat of Ervin, and Eleanor Brown and Vernell Bank, both of Fairfield; and nine grandchildren.
