Simpson Thomas O. Simpson, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery in Trinidad, Colo. On Sept. 23, 1930, in Lockney, twin sons were born to Charles and Norma Thomas Simpson. Thomas O. was born 30 minutes before Charles I. On Feb. 19, 2005, the Lord called Tom home. Tom served four years in the Air Force. He owned Simpson Jewelry and Floral in Lockney for 12 years. While in Lockney, he was scoutmaster and served as president of the Chamber of Commerce. He and his family were active members of the Methodist Church. He had owned floral shops in Green River and Rock Springs, Wyo., for several years. He retired in Trinidad. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 43 years, Ardury; a son, Blane; and a sister, Bettie Emmitt. Survivors include his wife of eight years, Orlie; a son, Keith of Sapulpa, Okla.; two stepsons, Mike McElhaney and wife, Millie, of Lockhart and Jay Penn of Colorado City; one stepdaughter, Roxie Penn of Van Alstyne; a brother, Charles and wife, Mildred; a sister, Iwana Monroe of Tulia; six stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 21, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LaUna Mae Woods LaUna Mae Woods, 84, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Kirkpatrick of First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Woods was born in Erick, Okla., on April 5, 1920, to Ira and Jewel Cornelison. She graduated from Sayre High School in Sayre, Okla., and married Harley G. Woods in 1938. Mrs. Woods was in banking in Amarillo before moving to Long Beach, Calif., in 1957. She retired from McDonald-Douglas Aircraft in 1985 and moved back to Amarillo. She was a Christian. "Mimmy" loved her family and friends very much, and everyone misses her deeply. Special thanks to everyone on the eighth floor of BSA Hospital and Dr. James Bryan who worked to make Mrs. Woods comfortable. Mother A mother's love is sometimes best for reasons I can't explain. She always knows when I hurt and how to ease the pain. Sometimes I take her for granted, because she has been there for so many years. But when I need someone to love, she's there to dry my tears. Leo Wiley, 78, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Gaylon Wiley officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by D.A.V. Chapter 26 and Masonic Lodge No. 1239. Mr. Wiley was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Lakeview in Hall County. He was a veteran of the Army, serving from January 1945 until October 1946. He served overseas in the Philippines and Japan. He had been an examiner for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985. He was a member of South Lawn Baptist Church. He was a member of the Palo Duro Masonic Lodge No. 1239, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Khiva Temple of the Shrine. In 1981, Leo married Joy Lockhart of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his mother; his father; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, Preston Wiley and wife, Cherilyn, of Pampa; three stepchildren, Jay K. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Mann was born in England and moved to Amarillo in 1974. She married Johnnie Mann on Jan. 19, 1983. Mrs. Mann was a waitress for several years while in Amarillo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by all who knew her. He was employed by BSA in Amarillo for 15 years, then was employed at Xerox for the last three years. Mrs. Mantooth was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Anson. She lived in Briscoe and Miami and had been a resident of McLean since 1961, before moving to Pampa in 2000. Elvis Barrington, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Midland Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Mr. Barrington was born April 28, 1923, in Goldthwaite. He served as the pastor of Primitive Baptist Church in Midland for 35 years before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Nell Cathey Barrington; three sons, James Barrington Jr. of Midland, Gary Barrington of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Troy Barrington of Stephenville; two daughters, Cathie Barrington of Grand Prairie and Deborah Stephens of Midland; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Mariner of Amarillo; and a brother, Tillman Barrington of Belton. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 21, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Orval Woodrow Williams BURNET - Orval Woodrow Williams, 92, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Edgar Funeral Home. Burial will be in Longmont, Colo. A true gentleman, Mr. Williams touched the lives of all who met him with his integrity, consideration for others and his trademark blend of quick wit, humor and warmth. Orval was born March 27, 1912, in Cordell, Okla., the fifth of J.J. and Pairlee Williams' six children. He graduated from Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla., with a bachelor of arts degree in 1935. He joined the Navy in 1945, serving in the Seabees construction battalion in North Africa during World War II. There he learned the carpentry skills that served his well throughout his life. Orval spent his youth in Oklahoma and after World War II, moved to Longmont, where he began his career in real estate. Later, he moved to Anton, where he had his own insurance and real estate business. He moved back to Cordell in 1986 and finally came to live with his daughter and her family in Burnet in 2001. Orval was married three times: in 1938 to Madge Gum of Hardesty, Okla., who preceded him in death in 1954; in 1965 to Ruby Beebe of Levelland, who died in 1985; and in 1986 to Opal Shinn of Cordell, who passed away in 2001. He referred to them as his "three jewels." A lifelong member of Church of Christ, Orval served as an elder at the Lawrence Avenue congregation in Anton for many years. Survivors include a brother, T.C. Williams and wife, Nadine, of Lubbock; five sons, Kirk Williams and wife, Kathy, of Happy, Jim Beebe and wife, Pat, of Weatherford, Ken Beebe and wife, Margaret, of Lubbock, Glen Shinn and wife, Alice, of College Station and Terry Shinn of Houston; five daughters, Suzanne Labry and husband, Alex, and granddaughter, Claire, all of Burnet, Deborah Shinn and friend, Stephen Melch, of Oklahoma City, Sandra Nicholson and husband, Bill, of Santa Barbara, Calif., Patricia Dickson and husband, Don, of Weatherford, Okla., and Dana Shinn and friend, Alice Melott, of Houston; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Norma Almanza.
