Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Kahler was born in Grand Island, Neb., to James and Alma Kahler on March 22, 1918. He graduated from Grand Island High School in 1937. He married Helen "Billie" Smith in Grand Island in 1937. After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska where he played football. He and his brother both played in the 1940 Rose Bowl, Mr. Kahler as tackle and his brother, Bob, as kicker. Mr. Kahler was known as "King Kong Kahler" during his football career. He left the university before graduating to play pro ball with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, but not before setting several records in track and field. His pro ball career was cut short due to injuries. After leaving football he entered civil service and worked as a senior safety engineer for ammunition plants in several different cities, before coming to work for Pantex in 1972. He retired from Pantex in 1986. Mr. Kahler took a very active part in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all sporting events. He treated each of his "kids" to vacations at the lake home that he had built in Nebraska. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dale. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Wilson of Amarillo; two sons, Terry Kahler and wife, Linda, of Livingston and Ronald Kahler of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Nora Moore and husband, Jerry, Paula Lenox and husband, Joe, Dewayne Wilson, Christina Barnhill and husband, Bill, Elizabeth Jones and Sandy Dodson and husband, Chad; 19 great-grandchildren, Kristen, Justin, Macy, Scott, Brooke, Cody, LCPL Kevin Lenox of the Marine Corps, Holly, Hope, Haley, Heidi, Koy, Anthony, Michele, Carol, Walter, Elijah, Chance and Hale. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor was a lifelong resident of Amarillo. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1979 and received her nursing degree from Amarillo College. She was a lifelong member of First Assembly of God. Mr. Ruiz was born in Hearne and raised in Eagle Pass. He was one of 13 children. He was a farmer and truck driver for many years. He worked for IBP for more than 15 years. He loved his family and enjoyed travel. He was loved and will be missed by his many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Ruiz in 1971; his parents, Pioquinto and Antonia Ruiz; and a daughter, Lori Ann Ruiz in 1971. Mrs. Hill was born in Oklahoma City to Floyd Halic and Faye Sincle Binkley on Jan. 31, 1935. She graduated in 1953 from Hennessey High School. She married Donald M. Hill in Hennessey shortly after graduation in 1953. Together, they worked in the lumber business in Oklahoma until Mr. Hill's death. Mrs. Hill moved to Amarillo in 1979. She was employed as a secretary at IBP until her retirement in 1998 due to her health. She was an avid bridge player and was a huge Sooner fan, always stating she was "Sooner born and Sooner bred." Mrs. Hill's joy was that of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took her role as grandmother very seriously. She was involved in the National Kidney Foundation of West Texas and participated in the Danny Conklin Kidney Walk. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, James E. Binkley. Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne M. Velasquez of Amarillo; a son, Donald Joe Hill of Amarillo; a sister, Louise Brown of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Jessica Dawn Hill Tisdale, Jerod D. She was the fourth child of Henry Milton and Alma Gore Flowers. She married Andy Crossland on Aug. 10, 1940, in Tulia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canyon. She graduated from Plainview High at the age of 15. Ione worked for Triple A and Frank Eiring Cotton office in Plainview. She worked for Pioneer Natural Gas for 29 years in Amarillo, retiring in 1984. She loved to play bridge and was a self-taught organist. Andy and Ione owned an old cabin in Colorado and enjoyed it so much they built a new one, where many good times with family and friends were shared. Ione spent the last 9 1/2 years of her life in Canyon. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband in September 1994; and two sisters, Lucille Flowers and Ruby Lena DeMent of Plainview. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Thomas and husband, Alvin A. They came to Dalhart in 1947 after Raymond spent 2 1/2 years in the southwest Pacific during World War II. For more than 50 years, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Rock Island Railroad Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Raymond was employed by HWB Grocery for many years. Raymond and Lois enjoyed dancing, bridge and golf. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Balko Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mr. Zimmerman was born Dec. 16, 1907, in Willow Springs, Mo. He married Edna Frances Wood on Aug. 20, 1932, in Balko. Survivors include two sons, Dean C. Zimmerman of Merritt Island, Fla., and Joe E. Zimmerman of Huntsville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lucas Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence M. Hammond officiating. Burial with military honors will be at noon in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A native of Centralia, Ill., Mr. Reckling was born Jan. 12, 1935, the son of George Dewey and Lora Beatrice Brown Reckling. He was a 1952 graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, Ill. He married his wife of 49 years, the former Anna Bailey of Amarillo, on Sept. 9, 1955. Geary served in the Air Force for four years before graduating from West Texas State University in 1970. He worked at the post office in Canyon for seven years before moving to Happy as the postmaster and served two years as mayor of the community. Mr. Reckling also served as postmaster of Floydada, Bonham and Roanoke before completing his postal career in the comptroller's office in Coppell. A lifelong Baptist, Geary served as pastor of Carey Baptist Church in Carey, Jean Baptist Church in Jean and Alandale Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Survivors include his wife; a son, Danny Reckling and wife, D'Ann, of Fort Worth; a daughter, Sherry Reckling Alsup and husband, Gary, of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, Sarah, Dana, Micah and Jeremiah Reckling and M'Kiesha and Kirk Alsup; a brother, Jack Reckling and wife, Dorothy, of Miami; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. The body will be available for viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends.
