Arellano Sr. Antonio V. Arellano Sr., 61, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Monsignor Raymond Crosier officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Arellano joined the Lord on Feb. 26, 2005. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed. He always gave with his heart and taught his family to do the same. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Ignacia; a son, Tony Arellano Jr. of Amarillo; four daughters, Stephanie Hahmann and husband, Holger, Esmeralda Prieto and husband, Mike, and Annabelle Arellano, all of Amarillo, and Hope James and husband, John, of Crestline, Ohio; a brother, Joel Arellano; five sisters, Miranda, Ada, Aurelia, Martha and Yolanda, all of Dallas; and 13 grandchildren. Barker, 84, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Roy S. Wheeler and the Rev. Mark Zimmerman of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Barker was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Tucumcari, N.M. He graduated from Olton High School in May 1940 and moved to Amarillo to enter the Apprentice Boilermaker School for Santa Fe Railroad. In 1941 he entered the Marine Corps, where he served until 1946. He fought in the Pacific and was involved in the Midway and Philippine theaters. Mr. Barker was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946 and resumed his career with Santa Fe Railroad. He worked for Santa Fe until 1980. He had accumulated 37 years and 10 months of service at Santa Fe. He took a disability retirement in 1980. Mr. Barker met Joeline Maples when he first moved to Amarillo in 1940. They were married on Dec. 22, 1944, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2004. Until his medical conditions forced him to retire from Santa Fe, Mr. Barker had been very active in church activities. He served as a deacon, elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher for sixth-grade boys, as well as various board positions. He had been a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church since 1967. After his retirement, Mr. Barker developed an interest in photography and genealogy. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Barker and wife, Katie, of Grand Prairie; three grandchildren, Nicole Cartagena and husband, Angel, of Winston- Salem, N.C., Aaron Barker of Carrollton and Tiffany Hillner and husband, Dan, of Arlington; two great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Carlene Mann of Idalou. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 28, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sylvia Roper McAdam Sylvia Roper McAdam, 80, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Covenant of Joy Christian Church with Mike Williams, pastor of Covenant of Joy Christian Church, and Monsignor Joseph Tash of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Mrs. McAdam was born in Guymon, Okla., on May 4, 1924. She attended school and graduated from Stratford High School. She married Emory D. Roper in 1941. He passed away in 1980. She later married Ray McAdam of Dalhart. He passed away in 1999. Together, they owned and operated the Kirby Sales and Service in Dalhart. She has been a resident of Amarillo since 1996. Mrs. McAdam was a volunteer at the VA Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dalhart and Covenant of Joy Christian Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a dear and loving friend, Jack Herbert. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Roper Fairbanks and husband, Raymond, of Amarillo; two sons, E. Dean Roper and wife, Carmen, of Amarillo and Don Roper and wife, Anne, of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Sue West of Waco; two brothers, Luther Blades of Amarillo and Alton Blades of Sunray; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Odom was born in Amarillo on Oct. 6, 1943. Mike attended the day program at the Amarillo State Center for most of his adult life. He was a resident of the Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen Odom; his stepfather, Terry Odom; and a sister, Sherri Dodson. Survivors include two sisters, Jamie Culvahouse and husband, Bruce, of Amarillo and Teresa Odom of Cupertino, Calif.; a nephew, Scott Dodson of Amarillo; a niece, Becky Doty of Amarillo; and an aunt, Yvonne Little of Norman, Okla. Mr. Cuellar loved to be outdoors, loved his grandchildren, and he was a Dallas Cowboys fanatic. He loved life and was not afraid of a challenge if fun was involved. He loved to dance. His family will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by a son, Sam Cuellar, in 1995; two brothers, Marion Cuellar and Ralph Cuellar; and his parents. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 28, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Henry Cornelius SPEARMAN - Henry Cornelius, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Beverly Cook officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Cornelius was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Oil City, Pa. He graduated from high school there in June 1934. He went to work for Pa. Power and Light and was moved to Erie, Pa., after three years and from there to Altoona, Pa. While there, he applied to Penn State for admission to go for a degree in petroleum engineering and was accepted in August 1941. He married Mary Jackson of Oil City on April 9, 1939, while in Erie. Because of the war, in 1941, Penn State went to year-round classes, and he graduated in October 1943. The family moved to Pampa in November, where he went to work for Stanolind Oil & Gas for the next three years. From there, now with two children in tow, they went to Colombia, South America, with Tropical Oil of Toronto, Canada. This lasted for a little over two years, at which time, a minor revolution in the country caused all of the employees to be airlifted back to the States safely. The family returned to Pampa, where he went to work for the Railroad Commission. After more than three years, he got on with Shamrock Oil and Gas at Dumas. In 1956, after three years at Dumas, he was moved to the location at Spearman as production supervisor of a new district there. He retired from the company in 1976 and remained in Spearman. He and Mary enjoyed their travels in about 41 of the states and also western Canada. Henry was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a lifelong Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 17, 1999, and a son, Major Samuel B., USAF, pilot of a Phantom jet, who was lost somewhere in Cambodia in 1973. No body was recovered. Survivors include a daughter, Adele Rumley of Abilene; a son, Edwin Cornelius of Galveston; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Buhrkuhl was born Oct. 12, 1908, in Miller, Neb. She married Albert Hans Buhrkuhl on May 19, 1934, in Plainview. Survivors include a son, Rolland Buhrkuhl of Canyon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Ms. Escalante was born Jan. 10, 1981, in Chihuahua, Mexico. She had been a Borger resident most of her life. Survivors include her parents Irma Olivia and Jose Angel Escalante of Borger; a son, Juan Carlos Vera of Borger; and four sisters, Lucy Gallegos of Tulsa and Nayeli Escalante, Olivia Escalante and Daisy Escalante, all of Borger. Mrs. Rahn was born Jan. 13, 1924, to Edd and Carrie Purser Milligan in Quanah. She was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lemons and Mary Wood, both of Hollis; a son, Gerald Wooten of Quanah; a sister, Jo Miller of Santa Rosa, Calif.; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church and was a resident of Fritch for 65 years. Survivors include her husband, Don; two sons, Mike and Severn Roberts, both of Fritch; a daughter, LaVerne Layden of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Leola Sutton of Duncan, Okla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
