Dee Ruby C. Dee, 93, of Amarillo died Friday, March 4, 2005. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in Park Place Towers Parlor, 1300 S. Harrison St., with Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery in Houston. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Dee was born in Lorenzo and graduated from Slaton High School in 1928 and Texas Tech University in 1931. She taught high school in Slaton and Midland and was a substitute at Amarillo High and Tascosa High. Ruby was the registrar at Bellaire High School from 1961 to 1978, when she moved back to Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Valentinis-Dee; a son, James G. Valentinis-Dee Jr.; and a brother, Doyle Catching. Survivors include a son, Robert Catching Valentinis-Dee and wife, Elsie, of Houston; a brother, Wayne Catching of Amarillo; two grandsons; and two great- grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 5, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sister Fernanda Frischknecht Sister Fernanda Frischknecht, 97, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Wake services were at 7:30 p.m. Friday in St. Francis Convent Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today in the Convent Chapel with the Most Rev. John W. Yanta and Bishop Emeritus L.T. Matthiesen officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Sister Fernanda was born in St. Fiden, St. Gallen, Switzerland. She received her initial religious and professional training in Goldach and in Tubach, Switzerland. She traveled to Colombia, South America, in 1932. She was later sent to the Canal Zone and taught in Colon and Balboa, Republic of Panama. In 1950 she came to the United States and did graduate work, receiving a degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. She taught in Long Beach and Los Angeles and in a number of schools in Texas. She retired from teaching in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and a brother. Survivors include her Franciscan Sisters of the Province of St. Francis. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. John Ohlig officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Gallegos was born April 9, 1929, in Asientos Aguascalientes, Mexico, to Esequiel and Natividad Esparza Gallegos. He married Socorro Duenas on Feb. 24, 1966, in Brownsville. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Guadalupe Gonzalez of Lubbock, Antonia Gonzales of Andrews, Herminia Ortega of Sealy and Juanita Gallegos and Alejandra Gallegos, both of Plainview; three sons, Jose Gallegos of Plainview, Esequiel Gallegos of Lubbock and Francisco Gallegos of Floydada; a stepson, Martin Gallegos of Plainview; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Coatney was born July 31, 1920, in Green Forest, Ark. He was a Dumas resident since 1949. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He worked for the sanitation department of the City of Dumas. He served in the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He married Nadine Dainty on Sept. 20, 1941. He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 3, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Davis and husband, Archie, of Metamora, Ill., and Donna Hardcastle and husband, Jay, of Brady; two sons, Allen Coatney and wife, Connie, of Dumas and James Coatney and wife, Medley, of Sour Lake; two sisters, Daisy Wallace of Goodman, Mo., and Rosie Ward of Neodesha, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Cherilyn, Wayne, Gerald, Stefanie, Brian, Dawn, Nathan, Erin and Travis; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Seay was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Bartlesville, Okla. She married Willie Seay on Nov. 13, 1970, in Altus, Okla. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Steve Geerdes of Plano and Donnie Geerdes of Borger; a daughter, Donna Mowles of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Dallas Alford of Plano; two sisters, Sue Trumbly of Fritch and Stacy Mitchell of Borger; her mother, Frances Cooper Alford of Borger; and three grandchildren. Mr. Hawkins was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Hayworth, Okla. He was a Dumas resident all of his life. He retired from Diamond Shamrock as a lab tech. He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1966 and the Air Force from 1966 to 1973. He married Caroline Lake on Aug. 1, 1965, in Odessa. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Frances Pierson and husband, Mike, of San Antonio and Charlsie Webb and husband, Glenn, of Eastland; a son, Nathan Hawkins and wife, Sandra, of San Antonio; a brother, Billy Hawkins and wife, Donna, of Dumas; five grandchildren, Courtney Fewell and husband, Jeff, Rebecca Flores, Philip Flores, Ethan Webb and Samuel Webb; and two great- grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison Fewell. Mrs. Love was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Tulia. She married Rusty Love on May 23, 1948, in Tulia. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Love of Winnsboro, Debi Love of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Ronda Mullin of Tulia; five grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 5, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Cabbiness HEREFORD - Charles Cabbiness, 70, formerly of Hereford, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Lubbock. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Fellowship of Believers Church in Hereford with the Rev. Joe Shultz officiating. Masonic Rites will be by Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Cabbiness was born Feb. 3, 1935, in O'Donnell, the son of Bryon G. and Esta Lee Brandon Cabbiness. His family later moved to Brownfield, where he graduated from Brownfield High School in 1953. Charles was a veteran, serving as a corporal in the Army, and was stationed in Alaska during 1954. He married Jackie Farquhar on Nov. 28, 1956. Charles and his family moved to Hereford in 1967, where he worked in the insurance business as well as having farming interests. Ever the entrepreneur, Charles started Hereford Carthage Co. and, in 1983, purchased BJM Sales and Service. In 1995, he married Kay Green. After retiring from BJM Sales and Service, Charles moved to Lubbock. Charles was a member of Hereford Fellowship of Believers Church and Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849. Charles' passion in life was for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Betty Jobe. Survivors include his wife of Lubbock; five children, Mike Cabbiness and wife, Shala, of Hereford, Chris Cabbiness and wife, Kristi, of Canyon, Dana Ketchersid and husband, Bobby, of Lubbock, Stephenia Blount and husband, Mike, of Plains and Steve Green and wife, Kathy, of Georgetown; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Chillicothe Cemetery by Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Turner was born Aug. 22, 1919, to Mac and Laura Sloan Turner in Comanche County. He married Elsie Higginbottom on Nov. 27, 1943, in Frederick, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cheryl McGlockin of Chillicothe and Cela Jones of Amarillo; two sisters, Lorice West of Canton and Vera Davis of Mineral Wells; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
