Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Quanah First United Methodist Church in Quanah with the Rev. Jesse Dea officiating. Burial will be in Goodlett Cemetery in Goodlett by Smith Funeral Home of Quanah. Mr. Malone was born Nov. 6, 1919, to the late Thomas Jefferson Malone and Jewel Wiseman Malone in Hardeman County. A longtime resident of Hardeman County, he was a retired farmer and rancher. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army. He and Pearl Mathews were married on Aug. 3, 1946, in Grand Prairie. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Charlotte Hallmark and husband, Lorren, and Sharon Hudson and husband, Rickie, all of Amarillo; a sister, Glenna Dake of Quanah; a brother, Jack Malone of Mustang, Okla.; a granddaughter, Michelle Malone and Colin Chalmers of Amarillo; two grandsons, Johnthan Paul Wilson of Amarillo and Bobby Dale Hudson of New Hampshire; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Parsons married Marijess Boyle on Oct. 9, 1949, at Waynoka, Okla. He also served in the Air Force. He worked for Santa Fe Railway for 39 years and devoted much of his time to his grandchildren. Interstate 40. Mr. Schroeder was born July 11, 1922, in Wichita Falls to Gladys and E.A. Schroeder. He graduated from high school in Wichita Falls and then attended Midwestern State University, where he studied drafting in 1943. During World War II, he went to work for General Dynamics, then known as Consolidated. He retired form General Dynamics after 40 years and then moved to Amarillo to live with his sister. Survivors include a sister, Louise Walker; a niece, Linda Borden and husband, Skeet, of Amarillo; a nephew, Phil Walker and wife, LaNetta, of Odessa; four great-nephews; and a great-niece. Graveside services will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Peters was born June 18, 1919, in Duncan, Okla., to Fred Lee Carson and Anna Lowry Carson. She graduated from Bovina High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1941. She married Al Peters, who practiced chiropractic for 55 years in Amarillo. She was a past present of the Chiropractic Society of Texas Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and a brother, David Carson, in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Jodi Bytheway and husband, Bert; a son, Roger Peters and wife, Cindy; two grandsons; two stepgranddaughters; and 10 great- grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 13, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Canyon G.W. Gross Jr. G.W. Gross Jr., 86, of Canyon died Saturday, March 12, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark Williams and Donna Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home. Mr. Gross was born in Mesquite on Nov. 18, 1919, to Winnie McGaughey Gross and George Walter Gross Sr. He was the grandson of George Buchanan Gross, one of the original settlers of Dallas County. He graduated from North Dallas High School in 1937 and attended Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the military and served in France and Germany. He participated in seven major battles, obtained multiple awards and in 2004, was awarded a citation from the Consulate General of France for service in Normandy during the invasion and liberation of France. On April 19, 1947, he married Mary Lovett and raised two sons. He retired from Sun Oil Co. after 30 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and Boy Scouts of America, where he saw both sons attain the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1989, he and his wife moved to Canyon and became members of First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed golfing at Palo Duro Golf Club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, George Gross and wife, Deb, and Robert Gross and wife, Becky; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 13, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Robert Atherton "Bob" Keagy PAMPA - Robert Atherton "Bob" Keagy, 85, died Friday, March 11, 2005. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with John Curry officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. We are thankful for the life of Robert Atherton Keagy, who was the son of Philip Donald Keagy and Martha Louise Hall Keagy. Bob was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Independence, Iowa, and moved to Dallas as a young child. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He attended the Chicago Institute of Technology and L.S.U. He married Marilyn "Mike" McGuire on April 24, 1943. He and Mike moved to the Panhandle area in 1946, where Bob spent 35 years working for Cabot Corporation. He retired in 1982 as the southwest regional manager of oil and gas drilling and production. Upon his retirement, he chaired the Cabot Retirement Program, which made transportation available to those needing treatment at the cancer center or dialysis lab. He was a member of the Cabot and NOI Employees Credit Union, where he was appointed to the board of directors in 1979. He served many years as an active board member and was elected as chairman of the board in 1991. Bob was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where he was active as a Boy Scout leader through the church. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving as a naval officer during World War II. Bob loved his family and his many friends. Life was an adventure to him, and his philosophy was to live each day to the fullest. His adventure is finished, and he is safely home. Well done, my good and faithful servant. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan Keagy and husband, Ernest Stokely, of Birmingham, Ala., Jean Fiedler of South Port, N.C., and Janet Gregory of Trophy Club; a son, Jim Keagy and wife, Connie, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Margaret Stemmle; a brother, Jack Keagy; and nine grandchildren, Sara Nowak, Amy Fiedler, Dan Fiedler, Stephen White, Nathan White, David Keagy, Jane McKean, Meagan Gregory and Alan Gregory. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. Mrs. Ellis was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Shawnee, Okla., to Paul and Frances Caddell Hudson. Lena grew up in Wichita Falls. She met and married James Ellis there on Dec. 2, 1936. After they married, they moved to Lubbock in 1945, where Lena worked as a soda fountain attendant for Stumbough Drug Store. She also became manager of the fountain. Lena enjoyed cooking, canning and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a son, Clifford Ellis and wife, Glenda, of Claude, a special little girl, Martha Orsack of Hallettsville; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Lively Jr., 84, died Friday, March 11, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with John Curry officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors by Altus Air Force Base, Altus, Okla. Mr. Lively was born March 29, 1920, in Groom to Allye W. and Travis C. Lively. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1928, graduating from Pampa High School in 1936. He enrolled at Texas A&M University in 1937. He was active in the Cavalry and was a member of the polo team. His studies qualified him for aviation cadet school, and he was accepted Christmas of 1941. He went into cadet training and was in the Army Air Corps 4 years, logging more than 3,000 hours. He flew multi-engine aircraft, including B-24s and B-29s. He continued his association with the military by serving 25 years in the Air Force active reserve. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 25 years. On April 21, 1942, he married Elaine Tipton in Corsicana. This year, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Lively was a member of the Pampa Rotary Club. Rotary was an important part of his life, and he accrued more than 41 years of perfect attendance. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanne Dews. Survivors include his wife; a son, Clay Lively and wife, Mary, of Round Rock; a daughter, Jan Lively of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Michael Lively and wife, Dr. Karen Lively, of Edmond, Okla., Jennifer Lively of Amarillo, Courtney Trautweiler and husband, Gus, of Osceola, Mo., and Whitney Andrew Beauman of San Antonio; a great-granddaughter, Megan Trautweiler of Osceola; a sister, Patricia White and husband, Jack, of Amarillo; a brother, Lamar Lively and wife, Phyllis, of Amarillo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Amarillo Globe-News, March 13, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coral Odessa Myers Meyer BORGER - Coral Odessa Myers Meyer, 91, died Friday, March 11, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Chad Horton, director of pastoral care at Bivins Memorial Care Center, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Meyer, better known to her family and friends as Dessie, was born March 31, 1913, in Fargo, Okla. Her family lived in and near the oil fields of Oklahoma, where she grew up and eventually met and married Clarence Meyer on June 11, 1932, at Newkirk, Okla. They raised their family in and near the Oklahoma and Texas oil fields. Dessie's family were Church of God people, and the family attended church at the schools they lived near. Church services and Sunday school classes were organized by Dessie's mother. Different denominational ministers held services each Sunday, with many baptized in the local creeks nearby. The family enjoyed family worship and attended church as much as possible. Her family were farmers. One of Dessie's many accomplishments, as a lover of history and art, was to be published in the book entitled "The History of Hutchinson County," with an article highlighting the history of the Meyer family. Clarence was of German descent, as was Dessie. Clarence was a Lutheran, and the family later joined a small Church of Christ near Borger and attended that in the early days of the oil fields. Clarence passed away in 1979 and Dessie later lived in New Mexico for several years before she returned to Texas. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hilton, and two brothers, Floyd and Walden Myers, who were Church of God ministers. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Meyer Line and husband, Sam, of Amarillo; two sons, Eddie Meyer and wife, Sue, of Fort Worth and Richard Meyer of Amarillo; a brother, Loyd Myers of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Shane Hargrove, Todd Agee, Mike Meyer, Richard Bell, Phillip Bailey and Jon Bell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
