Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Robert Slaton, Assembly of God, and the Rev. Caroll Messer, Pentecostal Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Burkhalter was born March 24, 1921, in Memphis to Walter J. and Minnie M. Chambliss. Mildred attended Quail and Lillie schools growing up. She then met and married Haskell Essman and moved to Wellington, and they began their family. After the death of Haskell, Mildred then moved their three children to Amarillo, where she married A.L. Burkhalter, who had five children of his own. The Burkhalters founded and pastored Northside Assembly of God in Amarillo for 27 years until A.L. went to heaven in February 1990. At the time of her death Mildred was attending Harvest Time Pentecostal Church of God. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, E.J. Chambliss; two sisters, Ruby Greeson and Zettie Gosnell; a son, Gary Essman and wife, Judy; and two baby sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Fairlen Essman-Dorsey of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patricia Cocherell of Amarillo; five sons, Lynden Essman and wife, Lana, of Raton, N.M., Bill Burkhalter and wife, Ella Rose, of Alto, N.M., Kenneth Burkhalter and wife, Karen, of Richmond Hill, Ga,, Deuane Burkhalter and wife, Gwen, of Fort Worth and Johnny Burkhalter and wife, Patty, of Mount Burg, Ark.; a sister, Irene Edwards of Amarillo; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. F.M. Byford, retired minister, and the Rev. Charles Wyatt, pastor of New Life Baptist Church, Claremore, Okla., officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Westlawn Memorial Park, west of Borger. Mrs. Englund was born March 29, 1927, to Joe Wiley Norman and Mary Lois Connally Norman in Achille, Okla. She graduated from Achille High School in 1944 and moved to Borger soon thereafter and worked for a time at the Borger News Herald. Her main career was as office manager for Lewis Hardware and Supply Co. for many years. Mary married Fred J. Englund on Feb. 16, 1952, in her parent's home at Borger. Blessed with two children, Mary was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, wherever military duty and jobs moved the couple to serve, finally retiring to Amarillo in 1988. Throughout the years, she worked with enthusiasm in her community and the Baptist church. She served the Lord in many ways. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Karen Sue Englund Earnhart, wife of Jerry W. Earnhart of Borger; a son, Phillip D. Englund and wife, Connie, of Borger; six grandchildren, Dustin W. Earnhart and wife, Delpha, Whitney Brooke Earnhart, Joseph Logan and Chase Lane Englund, Ronnie Mitchell and wife, Renee, and Hope Mitchell; and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Seth and Haven Mitchell, all of Borger. Graveside services will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Peters was born June 18, 1919, in Duncan, Okla., to Fred Lee Carson and Anna Lowry Carson. She graduated from Bovina High School and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1941. She married Al Peters, who practiced chiropractic for 55 years in Amarillo. She was a past present of the Chiropractic Society of Texas Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and a brother, David Carson, in 1991. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel in Pampa with the Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of United Methodist Church of McLean, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery. Mrs. Carter was a lifelong resident of Roberts County, born on May 17, 1938, and raised in a fourth-generation pioneer family. She married local rancher Frank M. "Buster" Carter on Feb. 17, 1959. He died in 2002. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and received her bachelor of arts degree in English from Texas Tech University in 1963. A longtime volunteer with the Friends of the Pampa Library and Roberts County Library Board, she participated in numerous programs, especially those involving adult literacy. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pampa. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; her father, Ellis Locke, in 1991; her mother, Ouida Locke, in 1968; and her stepmother, Georgia Wells Locke, in 1993. Survivors include a son, Locke Carter and wife, Rebecca Rickly, of Lubbock; a daughter, Susan Rhoades and husband, Jerry, of Pampa; four grandchildren, Landon Carter and Ellis Carter, both of Lubbock, and Lindsay Rhoades and Tyler Rhoades, both of Pampa; a brother, David Locke and wife, Diana, of Miami, and their two children, Erin Locke and Mitchell Locke, both of Lubbock; and an aunt, Empress Signor of Lubbock. C.B. was a farmer and customer combiner for more than 60 years and loved it with a passion. He retired and moved to Canyon in 1977 to be closer to his daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife in November 1976; his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
