Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Chad Horton officiating. Mrs. Heidel was born in El Paso, and with a few brief exceptions, resided there until 1982. She was a resident of Grand Junction, Colo., from 1989 until 1997. She moved to Amarillo in 1998. She traveled frequently, and lived in Seoul, South Korea, and Vienna, Austria, for short periods of time. As a ticket agent for American Airlines, she traveled throughout the United States. She left American Airlines after 15 years to raise a family. She graduated from Texas Western University, now UTEP, in 1951 with a bachelor of arts in history and with a minor in English. She was a member of American Association of University Women's Hiking Group in Grand Junction. She married Robert Paul Heidel on Dec. 26, 1953, at Las Cruces, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John Barton Heidel; a brother, Wallace Wray Jonz; and a sister, Dortha Earl Jonz. Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Henry Williams of Orange County, Calif., Robert Paul Heidel of Mitchell, S.D., and Will Otto Heidel of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Joanne Heidel Herron of Letcher, S.D., and Gretchen Beatrix Heidel of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Bob Schroeder of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Robinson was born in Matkins, Mo. She was the last of her three brothers and four sisters. She completed high school in Scottsbluff, Neb. She worked for several years in the telephone office and later, as a receptionist at Baker Medical Clinic. Arlene had been a resident of Amarillo since 1954. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was very much loved, respected, and admired and will be greatly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Toy Johnson and recently by her second husband, H. Kendall Robinson. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Daniels was born in Platsmouth, Neb., on Dec. 10, 1920, to Floy and Nancy Daniels. Mr. Mitchell was born Oct. 9, 1913, in Wheeler. He married Dorothy Thorne in Raton, N.M., on Feb. 29, 1940. He was a farmer and rancher in Farley, N.M., until 1956 when he moved to Amarillo and worked for Pantex in security. He lovingly cared for his wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 2003 after suffering from Alzheimer's. Mr. Mitchell was a deacon and charter member of Bykota Baptist Church. She was born Dec. 3, 1951, to Howard and Dorothy Parker. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1970. She also graduated from West Texas State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in social work. She worked for the Texas Department of Human Services. She made it her lifelong goal to help other people. She was a member of Oakdale Grace Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her twin brothers, Johnny and Buddy Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband in October 1957. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Swindle was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Pampa and was a resident of Pampa most of her life. She married Clarence Edward Swindle on June 19, 1954, in Pampa. She was a homemaker and had been an active member of Wayside Club for almost 25 years. She was a member of First Christ of the Nazarene in Pampa. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Swindle in 1966; and several of her siblings. Amarillo Globe-News, March 18, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- R.L. McFarlin Jr. SPEARMAN - R.L. McFarlin Jr., 65, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Spearman High School Auditorium with the Rev. Ken Cole and John Scott officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. McFarlin was born Jan. 25, 1940, in Oakgrove, La. After graduating from high school in 1958 from Dumas, he joined the Army. He was with the 1st Infantry Division, 24th Infantry Division and the 508th Military Police. He had lived in the area since 1966, moving from Dumas. He married Kaye Boyles on Dec. 22, 1961, in Dumas. He later worked for the Dumas Police Department, Canadian Police Department and finally the Spearman Police Department before becoming a deputy sheriff for J.B. Cooke. In September 1973, he was appointed sheriff, becoming the youngest elected sheriff in Hansford County. He was sheriff of Hansford County from 1973 until 2004. He was the second-longest serving sheriff in the state of Texas. He was president of the sheriff's Association of Texas in 1985 and 1986. Through the years he received many recognitions such as Who's Who in American Law Enforcement in 1976 and the Tom Tellepson Award in 1989, which is the highest award given to a Texas sheriff for outstanding contributions to the advancement of law enforcement. He received the Lifesaving Award in 1995, the Medal of Valor from the state of Texas and he also organized and formed the Panhandle Peace Officers Association, which he served a year as president. He is actually an "Admiral in the Texas Navy" commissioned by George W. Bush. He was recently given the Texas Peacemaker Award at the 2004 Sheriffs Conference in Wichita Falls. There are many more awards and honrs R.L. Has received. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Spearman. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Fannie McFarlin; a son, Gregory Scott McFarlin in 1972; and a brother, Mike McFarlin. Mrs. Dorn was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Amarillo to Lewis and Rubye Gatten Murphy. Wanda met her best friend, life partner, father of her children, and loving husband of 46 years, Bobby, on Dec. 16, 1957. Wanda was a partner in Dorn's Inc., Big Country Energy Inc., Mariah Custom Inc., Mariah Custom Homes Inc., and many other ventures with her husband. Wanda enjoyed traveling in their motor home, where she, along with Bobby and Scooter, traveled to all 50 states and most of Canada, as well as numerous cruises. She was an avid fisherman, enjoying fishing with her favorite fishing buddy, Louise. Due to an organ donor, Wanda survived a double lung transplant in 2000, and enjoyed a few more years of traveling until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Murphy and Rubye Gatten Powell; her grandparents, G.G. Sr. and Laura Gatten; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Grady Dorn and Deane Loter. Survivors include her husband of Willow Park; a daughter, Denise Davis of Springtown; a son, Donnie Dorn and loving daughter-in-law, Chigger, of Willow Park; a brother, Larry Murphy of Belton; her grandchildren, Haley Brewer of Lewisville, T.J. Davis of Cheyenne, Wyo., Josh Dorn and Mariah Dorn, both of Willow Park, and Derek Davis of Springtown; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Murfield and Dorrette Dorn; a stepbrother-in-law, Larry Loter; and last but not least, her beloved dog, Scooter. Curtis retired from the Livestock Research Center in Clayton in 1993 and then returned to work part time, working a total of 26 years. He was a member of VFW Post in Clayton. He was preceded in death by his father; and three brothers, Delano Copley, Harold Copley and Eugene Copley; and a sister, Ardena Copley.
