Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor, Raymond Bowlin and Larry Capranica officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Spiker was born in Amarillo to Elmer and Nellie Spiker and lived here all of his life. He married Judy Singleterry on March 13, 1964, in Amarillo. He was a devoted husband of 41 years to the love of his life. He worked for Maywood for 27 years and also worked for Multiple Systems Inc. for 13 years. At the time of his death, he worked for High Plains Millwright out of Plainview. Jim loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and his dog, Adolf. He had a great love for his family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bill Spiker in 1987. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick Spiker and wife, Stacy, of Sanger and Ron Spiker and wife, Sherri, of Amarillo; a sister, Pat Bishop of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Max Spiker, his nephew and special fishing buddy. She married Charles M. Tate in 1947 at Amarillo. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Aneze Wells; and four brothers, Coy Revell, Charles Revell, R.D. Revell and R.C. Revell. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lynette Hartwell of Denver; a son, Ernest W. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel. Mr. Newby was born June 10, 1942, in Amarillo to John L. and Francille Koontz Newby. He married Susan Pease in 1960. He owned and operated Aaron's Plumbing in Canyon for 14 years and was a Mason. He was preceded in death by two daughters, June Koontz in 1993 and Nancy Newby in 1987. Survivors include his wife; a son, Johnel of Canyon; three daughters, Della Lopez and De De Newby, both of Houston, and Lisa Newby of Amarillo; his mother, Francille Edwards of McAlester, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Claude Cemetery in Claude with Bob Shepard, elder and Bible Chair Director for University Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hufnagle was born March 10, 1921, in Claude to Harry and Nellie Cobb Gilbert. She graduated from Clarendon High School and was a graduate of Texas Tech University, where she earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Irving and Odessa for 17 years. During World War II, she was employed at Amarillo Air Force Base as a tools instructor. She was an avid genealogist and traveled many miles in search of family ancestors. Her book on the Gilbert family, published in 1981, is a very comprehensive and informative record of the many branches of the Gilbert family tree. She also wrote a history of the North Carolina Anderson White (1801-1885) family, published in 1983. She married Blaine Hufnagle in Canyon on April 28, 2001. She was preceded in death by one brother, John H. Gilbert. Survivors include her husband; a stepdaughter, Kathy Volanty of Canyon; two sisters, Hazel Plaster of Canyon and Connie Whitman of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and five nieces and nephews, Cynthia Branch of Murphys, Calif., Carol Wold of Ocean Springs, Janet Plaster of Canyon, Clint Gilbert of Decatur, Ark., and Clay Gilbert of Gravette, Ark. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst by Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Ochoa was born Sept. 20, 1920, in El Roden, Durango, Mexico. She married Ysidoro Ochoa Jr. in Lubbock in 1942. "Ham" Hamrick Sr., 94, died Monday, March 21, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Hamrick was born July 16, 1910, in Moran. He married Fran Franks on Oct. 19, 1935, in Dallas and they were married for 69 years. He came to Dumas from Dallas and had been a resident since 1947. He was a resident of Amarillo for the past seven years. He was a former member of Dumas Noon Lions Club, Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 and Bar S Camping Club. Mr. Hamrick was an avid sports fan and was very active in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. In his younger years, he played baseball, basketball and his most beloved game was golf. He was a member of Dumas Country Club for 45 years and helped build the original golf course. He retired from American Zinc Co. in 1972. He was a former employee of Triangle Oil Co. until 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dumas. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Pearl Hamrick; a son, Horace Lee Hamrick; a daughter, Lu Fran Parker; a brother, Lynn Hamrick; and two sisters, Eloise Harless and Jackie Hughes. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Hamrick and wife, Diane, of Amarillo; two brothers, Joe D. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in the Assembly of God with the Rev. Bill Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Tong was born Aug. 13, 1956, in Fort Worth. He attended schools there and graduated from Northside High School in 1974. He attended many colleges and received degrees in a number of professions. He worked in the prison system for 18 years as a safety officer for Region 5. They moved from Memphis to Tulia in 1996. He went back to school and received a degree in education from WTAMU in 2002. He taught junior high history in Tulia. He was a member of the Assembly of God and taught adult Sunday school class. He married Mary Hawthorne on Nov. 19, 1992, in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Leona Tong. Survivors include his wife; a son, Christopher Paul Tong of Fort Worth; two brothers, Robert Lee Tong of Houston and Donald Ray Tong of Fort Worth; four nieces; and four nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, March 23, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area David E. Holt PAMPA - David E. Holt, 65, died Sunday, March 20, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Christian Church with the Rev. Barry Loving, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Holt was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Pampa, to Margaret and Damaris Holt. He attended Pampa schools, graduating from Pampa High School in 1958. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University and the University of Houston School of Law. In the spring of 1966, he was sworn in to practice law in Texas. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Texas and the United States of America. He worked for J. E. Thompson until 1969 when he joined the law firm of Smith, Teed, Wade and Waters, where he was mentored by William Jarrel Smith. He practiced law with Bill Waters, and later Kenneth W. Fields, Leland W. Waters and Jeff Jones when they came into the firm. Over the years, the name evolved to Waters, Holt and Fields, and is presently Holt and Fields. He married Linda Skewes, his high school sweetheart, on June 3, 1961. His professional associations included the Gray County Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas, where he served on the ethics committee and as a director of the State Bar from 1996 to 1999. He was a fellow of the State Bar of Texas. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver, scouting's highest award. He served as director of the Adobe Walls and Golden Spread Boy Scouts councils. He served on the board of directors of St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School, Pampa Community Concert Association, and Pampa Meals on Wheels, where he was treasurer for many years. He was a member, deacon and elder of First Christian Church. He was past treasurer and current president of the M. K. Brown Foundation, having accepted the Golden Nail Award on behalf of the foundation for its philanthropic work. He was a member of Pampa Trap and Skeet Club, a life member of Amarillo Gun Club, was a zone representative to the Texas State Trapshooter's Association, a life member of America Trapshooting Association, a member of T.A.P.A., Pampa Rifle and Pistol Club, Texas State Rifle Association and National Rifle Association. A trap and skeet champion, he was active in the Pampa Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and spent many days in the field with friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and mother, Margaret Holt McClelland. Survivors include his wife; his children, Parker Holt and Susanna Holt, both of Austin; three sisters, Barbara Lallement of Amarillo, Linda Reed and husband, Howard, of Pampa and Frances Shryock and husband, Kenneth, of Reno, Nev.; his father-in-law, A.W. Skewes of Pampa; his stepfather, Henry McClelland of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Ardyth Atkins and husband, Jim, of Tyler; a brother-in-law, Blaine Skewes and wife, Susan, of El Dorado, Kan.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Sams was born March 28, 1916, in Brice. He had been a resident of Lubbock since 1960, moving from Amarillo. Toy married Raynell Lawrence on Feb. 6, 1939, in Memphis. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for Furr's Inc. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was a member of the 3 Rs. Toy sang and traveled on tours with the King's Choir. He was an avid sports fan and umpired baseball for many years. Survivors include three sons, David of McAllen, Michael of Kemp and Henry of Santa Monica; three daughters, Anita Hampton of Springdale, Ark., and Beverly Read and Loveta Krogman, both of Lubbock; 26 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
