Mass will be held Monday in Staten Island, N.Y. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29 in Tascosa High School Auditorium. Mr. Barone was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Staten Island. He served as a New York City fireman, where he retired in 1968. In 1976, Mr. Barone moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. In 1989, after many dinner theatre stops here, he chose to make Amarillo his home. Mr. Barone hosted a radio show, taught acting to students of all ages and directed or acted in more than 100 plays, commercials and television shows. Mr. Barone received an associate's degree in psychology from Amarillo College in 1995, where he was president of Phi Theta Kappa and graduated with the highest honors. He received a bachelor of science degree in psychology in 1997 from West Texas A&M University and lacked six hours on his master of arts in criminal justice and sociology. He was recently elected president of the Texas Panhandle Film Commission. Survivors include a sister, Patricia Barone of Pennsylvania; a niece, Laura Johnson of New Jersey; and a nephew, William Burke of New York. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. L.R. Green, retired minister, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Barton was born in Vernon to William and Eula Mae Dickens Barton on Aug. 7, 1926. He loved fishing, being outdoors working in his yard and traveling. He was a truck driver for almost 40 years. He served his country in the Navy in the Korean War. He was to each child what they needed him to be: Dad, Pop, Granddaddy Pete, Papa or Grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, SE Barton, on May 5, 1992; a daughter, Wilma Click; two sisters, Mae Smith, and Elsie Vineyard; and a brother, George Barton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Gary Galley of Grace Fellowship in Panhandle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. West was born in Picher, Okla., on Sept. 5, 1928, to Leonard Thomas Stibbens and Emma Estelle Smith. She married Howard Vernon West, a Purple Heart recipient of the Marine Corps, on Feb. 12, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. Howard preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1965, in Grand Island, Neb. She moved to Amarillo in 1973. She was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook and a master gardener. Her greatest hobby was dancing. Her nickname was "Cupie." She was a very talented harmonica player. She was a pillar of strength, a vision of hope and a treasure chest full of love. Special thanks to Betsy Murray for a lifetime of love and support and Trudy King during the last few months. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Dorothea Murphy; and a brother, Buck Stibbens. Lola was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and a granddaughter, Melissa Lynn Crowe in 1992. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1948. She was preceded in death by her first husband, A.V. Vaught in 1957; her second husband, George Brewster in 2002; and a son, Robert R. Vaught in 1951. Survivors include a son, John B. Hughes St. Mr. Martin was born May 18, 1929, in Clarksville. He acquired his religious affiliation at an early age in Clarksville, where he attended Cheatham High School. He had been a resident of Amarillo for 50 years. He was employed by the Fedway Department Stores and later retired from Boatman's (First National) Bank. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, in 2002 and a son, Royce Martin, in 2001. Survivors include three sons, Marvin Martin and wife, Marilyn, of Amarillo, Billy Martin and wife, Alexis, of Bakersfield, Calif., and the Rev. Lynn Mims and wife, Stacey, of St. Louis; four brothers, Lewis Martin, Herbert Martin and Billy G. Zimmerman, 93, of Amarillo died Friday, April 15, 2005. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. She had touched many people's lives and will always be remembered for her world-renowned brownies. She had worked as a hostess for Dairy Queen. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Danner was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Bronte to Ira Prewitt and Sybil Julian Mackey Prewitt. She was an artist, a homemaker and a member of the Methodist church. She married Vilo Danner on Aug. 17, 1939, in a sunrise service. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ken Danner and wife, Lyvone and Jerry Don Danner and wife, Jo Anne, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Sue Vindett and husband, Philip, of Pearland; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 17, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area J. David Fatheree PAMPA - J. David Fatheree, 68, died Friday, April 15, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Edwin Cooley, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Fatheree was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Pampa, the grandson of Pampa pioneers T.D. and Minnie Hobart and son of the late Clyde and Laura Fatheree. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1954, where he was a member of student council, the golf team and the Latin Club and was a varsity cheerleader. In 1958, he received a BBA degree from Oklahoma University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Army. He married Mary Elizabeth Mann of Duncan, Okla., in 1958. They moved back to Pampa in the early 1960s, where Mr. Fatheree went into the insurance business, subsequently owning and operating Fatheree Insurance Agency until the late 1990s. He was affiliated with Duncan, Fraser, and Bridges Insurance Agency in Pampa at the time of his death. Mr. Fatheree was a member of the first group of inductees into the Pampa Harvester Hall of Fame. He had twice chaired his Class of 1954 reunion committee and spearheaded the Pampa High School landscaping project begun by former PHS graduating classes. David attended nearly every class reunion, and in 1996, he was made an honorary member of the PHS Class of 1956 by the Committee for the Preservation of the Class of 1956 for his attendance at their reunions. He served as board chairman of the Pampa United Way from 1974 until 1978 and as drive chairman in 1978. He continued to work for United Way until his death. He was a past director of the Salvation Army Board, a member of the White Deer Land Museum Advisory and Foundation Boards, Pampa Community Concert Board, former board member of the Pampa Youth and Community Center, and he was a member of the first board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo. He received a Golden Nail Award for his work on Pampa's centennial celebration. He was a member and trustee of First Presbyterian Church and the Everyman's Bible Class. David was a past president of the Pampa Country Club, former chairman of the Top O' Texas Golf Tournament and a former member of the Pampa Rotary Club. Other organizations supported by Mr. Fatheree include Hospice of Pampa, Shepard's Helping Hands, Pampa Fine Arts Association, Junior Service League of Pampa, St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Meals on Wheels. His hobbies included playing golf with friends and his grandsons, Taylor and Garrett. He supported all Pampa athletic teams through their booster clubs and through private contributions, and Fatheree Insurance Agency ran countless newspaper and radio ads supporting football, basketball, track and golf teams through the years. David also worked on committees to honor former Pampa coaches and athletes. He was preceded in death by a brother, C. Warren Fatheree. Survivors include his wife; a son, David M. Fatheree and wife, Natha, of Pampa; three grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett and Madison Fatheree, all of Pampa; a brother, Hobart Fatheree and wife, Ann, of San Antonio; and a sister- in-law, Ann Fatheree of Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Stratford. Mr. Simpson was born to George M. Simpson and Emma Myers Simpson on March 4, 1911, in Sherman County, eight miles north of Sunray. Mr. Simpson had been a farmer/rancher most of his life. He was the eldest of five children. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. His brother, Henry Jacob Simpson fought and died in the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include a sister, Mary Virginia Simpson Wineberg and husband, Robert, of Dumas and their three children. Mrs. Nivens was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Twitty to George and Maude Dorman Sr. She was a resident of Dumas for 67 years and was a longtime member of Church of Christ. She and her first husband, Cecil Hudson, established Cut Rate Grocery in Dumas in 1938. She married Ben Nivens on Nov. 1, 1948, in Dumas. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to sew and crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, on June 8, 2001. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Ray Hudson of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Shannon Hudson of Amarillo and Danette Hudson Ritchey and husband, Lonnie, of Pampa; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, April 17, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Richard Lee "Dick" Beckham HOUSTON - Richard Lee "Dick" Beckham, 58, died Thursday, April 14, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Miller Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel. Mr. Beckham lost his courageous battle with renal cell cancer on Thursday. He was born July 15, 1946, to Harold and Lela Beckham in Pampa. He proudly served his country in the Navy and was in the Vietnam War. During his tour in the military he was awarded three Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. He lived most of his life in Amarillo and Houston. One of the many gifts Richard leaves with us is his unconditional love for family and many friends. His unfailing sense of honor, honesty and Christian morals will be missed by everyone whose life he has touched. We are saddened by his passing and celebrate that he is in the loving arms of God. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Williams-Beckham; a sister, Cheri Duggan and husband, Bill, and nephew, Matthew Duggan, all of Missouri City; two sons, Lynn Rector of Amarillo and Master Sgt.
