Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Bob Schroeder officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler- Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Stephens was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Dr. Christian and Matilda Saxton. She attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, where she majored in elementary education and piano to prepare her for her lifelong dream to teach first grade. While attending Highland, she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Charles F. Stephens, whom she married on Sept. 5, 1942, in Las Vegas. After teaching in several locations around the country, Charlotte and Charlie and their family settled in Amarillo in 1955. Charlotte began her first-grade career in Amarillo at Humphrey's Highland and then completed her teaching career with 20 years at Sunrise Elementary. During these years, Charlotte was active in PTA, Beta Sigma Phi and was church pianist and Luther League sponsor for Grace Lutheran Church, where she and her family were one of the founding families. After retiring from teaching, Charlotte and Charlie spent several years traveling in their RV. They spent several winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. Once they decided to remain home in Amarillo, Charlotte quickly became a common face at the Amarillo Public Library North Branch, where she pursued her love of reading and also launched a retirement career in helping others learn to read through the Amarillo Literacy Council. Charlotte tutored several teens and adults over the years, caring for each with the same determination and care she felt for all of her first-graders in earlier years. She and Charlie were such a force at the library that they were named North Branch Family of the Year in 1992. Charlotte and Charlie were longtime members of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and Lamplighters Sunday school class. Charlotte was active in Berean Circle, where she served two terms as president and was a lifetime member. She chaired the Baptism Committee for 10 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Plum Creek Healthcare Center and the hospice staff of Odyssey Health Care for the love, kindness and tender care they provided for Charlotte and her family. They also thank the Lamplighters Sunday school class for their love and support. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Fred Krasin; and a stepbrother, Lester Krasin. Mr. Moss was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Brownfield to Thomas and Mattie Moss. Mr. Moss was a World War II veteran, who served on the USS Neshoba and saw combat in Okinawa. He enlisted in the Navy in December 1943 and was honorably discharged in December 1947. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Gibson; five brothers, W.T. "Lefty" Moss, David Moss, Eldon Moss, T.P. "Doc" Moss and Billy Ray Moss; and two sisters, Frances Mount and Iris Bailey. Mr. Byrd was born July 8, 1911, in Claude and was a lifetime resident of Armstrong County. He married Doris Aldridge on Oct. 26, 1935, in Claude. He had been a farmer and rancher most of his life. At various times over the years, he had served on the Claude School Board, Armstrong County ASCS Committee, as the county Democratic chairman and on various other committees and boards. He was a winning pitcher on a semi-pro baseball team during the 1930s. He enjoyed checkers and dominos, working with his land and cattle and was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 19, 2001; and a son, Martin Cleon Byrd II in 1987. Amarillo Globe-News, April 22, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Milo Edwin Carlson PAMPA - Milo Edwin Carlson, 86, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Funderburg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Born July 9, 1918, in Neosho County, Kan., Milo was the only child of J.E. and Elsie Carlson, who preceded him in death. His family first came to Skellytown in 1927, and he graduated from Pampa High School in 1935. He worked afterwards in his father's construction company named J.E. Carlson Inc. with headquarters in Pampa. He married Mary Pauline Leverett on April 2, 1939, and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary together. Milo was a successful businessman and retired in 1986. His oldest son, Jerry, now owns the original construction company, now in its 68th year of continuous operation. Milo was also a faithful member and a deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church, and served as building committee chairman for the construction of the current sanctuary. He was also a dedicated citizen of Pampa. His civic service accomplishments include being the mayor of Pampa from 1969 to 1972, and he served on the Pampa Zoning Board, Gray County Airport Board and Pampa Industrial Foundation Board. During his two elected terms as mayor, his outstanding leadership resulted in the construction of the M.K. Brown Civic Auditorium, Pampa Water Treatment Plant, upgrades to the park system, as well as many improvements in Pampa's governmental practices. Other personal accomplishments were highlighted by his 23 years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. He served as president of the Adobe Walls Council from 1970 to 1971, during which he was instrumental in the construction of Camp M.K. Brown. He was recognized for his service with the Silver Beaver Award in 1968. He was a charter member of the Senior Citizens board of directors and helped start the Senior Citizens Center. He was president of Pampa Rotary Club from 1971 to 1972, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was honored as Man of the Year in Pampa by the Pampa Chamber of Commerce in 1982. On the personal side, Milo was an accomplished horticulturist and master of many artistic skills. As a young man, he was an avid amateur archaeologist and a collector of plains Indian artifacts. In his middle age, he was an amateur gemologist and turned out beautiful fine jewelry work using precious stone faceting, silver-and gold-smithing and investment casting techniques. Later in life, his artistic interests were focused on woodturning, and he created numerous art-quality pieces which won him first-place awards at the Texas State Fair in 1989, and the honor of Pampa Fine Arts Association Artist of the Year for 1994-95. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing of all kinds, particularly on his family farm in Neosho County. His love of flying, as an instrument-rated private pilot, complemented his business pursuits and recreational interests for more than 40 years. Milo was proud that all four of his sons received mechanical engineering degrees and achieved their own success in business. To his sons and many others he was a mentor, coach, encourager and friend. He taught by example in living his life: Integrity, honesty, work ethic, kindheartedness, compassion, generosity and love. Mrs. Frazier-Allaway was born March 22, 1925, in Hollis, Okla. She was an executive assistant and an accountant. She was an accomplished china painting artist. She was a member and president of Golden Spread Porcelain Art Club of Pampa and Porcelain Art Club of Amarillo. Three china pieces received first place and were displayed in the World China Painting Museum in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hez M. and Leo Frazier; and a brother, H.M.
