Amarillo Globe-News http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ============================================================== Amarillo Globe-News Obituaries Wednesday, April 27, 2005 Amarillo Christopher Brian Hunton Christopher Brian Hunton, 27, of Amarillo died Monday, April 25, 2005. Celebration of life services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Lubbock. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. Mr. Hunton died after suffering an accident in the line of duty. He was born July 8, 1977, in Lubbock to Janet and Paul Hunton. He graduated from Lubbock Cooper High School in 1995 and attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University. He found his vocational love in firefighting and graduated from Amarillo College's Fire Fighting School. For two years before he was hired by the Amarillo Fire Department, Brian volunteered his time at the Randall County Volunteer Department where he continued to volunteer after his hiring. During his two years as a firefighter, Brian attended multiple classes at National Fire Academy in Maryland, Weapons of Mass Destruction Hazardous Materials Technology and Chemicals in Alabama and National Emergency Incident Management System at Texas A&M. Brian's interest in public service began in high school when a granddaughter of a friend needed blood. Ever since that time, Brian was a regular blood donor. Brian had always enjoyed an active life in sports. He loved all sports, but at age 10, he concentrated on baseball to the exclusion of all other sports. He played in Lubbock Little League, the Pony/Colt leagues and for three years as a Cooper High School Pirate. Brian played in the City Parks and Recreational Adult League, even after moving to Amarillo. Brian never lost his passion and love of baseball. To many of his friends, Brian has been known at one time or another as Bubba, Wheels, Mustang, Lubbock, and by his extended family of firefighters, Shrek. Brian hunted with his Dad for many years. This past year his loving little sister, Kyla, joined them for the first time. Brian's latest passion was bass fishing, which he went after with the same zeal as all his other interests. Regretfully, he passed away before obtaining his goal of catching his first 10-pounder. This year, while fishing with his Dad, Brian caught a 9.8-pound bass. No doubt given more time on this earth, he would have attained this goal, too. Kyla adored her big brother as did his family and friends who will forever miss him. Survivors include his mother and dad; a sister, Kyla; and his grandmothers, Bernita Hughes and Lois Ann Gallagher. The family suggests memorials be to the Brian Hunton Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Amarillo National Bank, Box 1, Amarillo, TX 79105-0001, Attn: Dennis Spears. Follow his lead and donate blood as often as possible. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
