"Conde" Chavez C.L. "Conde" Chavez, 77, of Amarillo died Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nichol officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Chavez was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Richland and moved to Borger in 1944. He married the love of his life, Margaret Valdez, in July 1950. They raised their family in Borger. Mr. Chavez retired from Phillips Petroleum. He was a former member of St. John's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Borger. He moved to Amarillo after his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the Zamora family. Esme was a longtime friend of Mr. Chavez. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 28, 1993; his parents, Felix and Olympia Chavez; two sisters, Lucy and Trini; and a brother, Ceasar. Survivors include four sons, Frank Chavez and Jo Anne, and Randy Chavez and Brenda, all of Amarillo, and Alfred Chavez and Patti, and Chris Chavez and Rita, all of Houston; three sisters, Sinfo Lopez of Amarillo, Alberta Trevino of Alexandria, Va., and Mary Tenorio of Lubbock; five brothers, Jimmy Chavez of San Antonio, Esibel Chavez, Domingo Chavez and Felix Chavez Jr., all of Amarillo, and Freddy Chavez of Durango, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Conan, Cain, Seth, Madyson, Meredith, Kaitlyn, Ty, Seve and Ashlyn. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sharon Kay Reed Sharon Kay Reed, 61, of Amarillo died Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Dr. Gil Lain of Paramount Baptist Church and the Rev. Clifton A. Mann of St. Andrews Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Reed was born in Borger on March 4, 1944. She graduated from Borger High School in 1962. She received a bachelor's degree from TCU and received a master of divinity degree from Emory University. She married Dan Reed in Amarillo on April 1, 1989. Mrs. Reed was very active in numerous churches. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sabrina Bailey. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Annette Teter and husband, Kevin, of Panhandle; a son, Calvin Mac Bailey; two sisters, Vicki Barrow of White Deer and Carol Phelps of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, Mike McKee of Guymon, Okla.; her mother, Frances McKee of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; two stepdaughters; and two stepsons. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with John Calabro and Bruce Armstrong officiating. Arrangements are by Amarillo's Family Funeral Home, 2650 Dumas Drive. Mrs. Blain was a homemaker. Mrs. Cornejo was born in Guzeman, Jalisco, Mexico, on May 24, 1940. She worked in the dietary department of several hospitals and nursing homes for the past 25 years. Survivors include her husband, Rodrigo; three daughters, Livier Ramirez of Compton, Calif., Adriana Ordaz of Southgate, Calif., and Francis Cornejo of Amarillo; five sons, Omar Cornejo of Lynwood, Calif., Jorge Cornejo of Guzeman, Rodrigo Cornejo Jr. of Wilmington, Calif., Hector Cornejo of Compton and Efrain Cornejo of Amarillo; three brothers, Jose Vargas of Amarillo, Gonzalo Vargas of Guzman and Rafael Vargas of Hesperia, Calif.; and 16 grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gayle Worthan Gayle Worthan, 83, of Amarillo, formerly of Hereford, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Guy Walker, pastor of The Barn Church in Hereford, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Worthan was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Throckmorton. She lived in Hereford from 1953 until 2000, when she moved to Amarillo. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Russell of Amarillo, Elizabeth Vidal of Hereford and Sandra McPeak of Lubbock; two sisters, Agnes Bostick of Hobbs, N.M., and Blanche Gerhardt of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association or First Baptist Church of Hereford. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Ruby Moffitt Beeckler HEDLEY - Ruby Moffitt Beeckler, 95, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in Clovis, N.M. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with Don Stone and Bright Newhouse, both Church of Christ ministers of Clarendon, officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Mrs. Beeckler was born July 18, 1909, in Elida, N.M., and lived in Hedley for much of her life. She moved back to Clovis five years ago. She married Clarence J. Beeckler on Aug. 26, 1940. She had worked as a retail clerk much of her life before her retirement. She was a member of 16th and Pyle Church of Christ in Clovis. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 16, 1976. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She married Troy William Stanton on April 12, 1950, in Clayton, N.M. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Myrtle Richardson Moore; a sister, Sis Frazier; and her husband on Oct. 17, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Stanton of Lefors; a son, Troy D. Ms. Courtney was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Aldrich, Mo. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memphis Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Cross was born May 9, 1916, in Tulia to Cecil Ray and Alma Hudson Cross. He married Ernestine Lemons on Nov. 24, 1945, in Childress. He was a former Clarendon resident before moving to Memphis in 1973. He was in the service station business much of his life before his retirement. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Memphis Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Annette Osburn and husband, Benny, of Clarendon; a grandson, Blake Osburn and wife, Erin, of Clarendon; a great- granddaughter, Kailee Joanne of Clarendon; two brothers, C. Ray Cross and wife, Betty, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Murry Cross and wife, Mary, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Heredia was born May 10, 1922, in Holland. He married Rosita Rodriguez on Sept. 10, 1957, in Ojinaja, Chihuahua, Mexico. Survivors include his wife, Rosita; six sons, Lucas Heredia, Pablo Heredia, Juan Heredia, Jessie Heredia and Arturo Heredia, all of Borger, and Francisco Heredia of Clifton, Ariz.; two daughters, Elsa Garcia and Christina Vasquez, both of Borger; a brother, Martin Heredia of Monahans; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dixie V. Martin SHAMROCK - Dixie V. Martin, 90, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, in Las Vegas. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Martin was born Oct. 27, 1914, in Shamrock to John Lee and Mary Ruth Hubbard Blackburn. She attended school in Shamrock and married Jack R. Martin on July 11, 1937. Dixie lived in Shamrock until 1992 when her health forced her to move to Las Vegas to be near her son and family. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was the pleasure she brought to so many lives. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 21, 1958; four sisters, Leone Steed, Lucille Lewis, Mary Lee Walker and Frances Worley; and a brother, W.E. Blackburn. Survivors include a son, Robert Earl Martin of Las Vegas; and a granddaughter, Samantha Martin of Las Vegas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Radford James "Rad" Barrett NORMAN, Okla. - Radford James "Rad" Barrett, 90, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Trevor Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley. Mr. Barrett was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Wynnewood to James W. and Kittie (Braswell) Barrett. He graduated from high school in Wynnewood in 1932. He spent a year working in oilfields and then began working in the lumber industry. In 1939, he moved to Amarillo, Texas, and continued in the lumber industry until his retirement as managing partner of Star Lumber and Hardware in Amarillo. Rad married Lorene Bastion in 1939 in Pampa, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1974. In July 1976, he married Lula May Butler Young in Amarillo. They moved to Norman in 1980, so they could enjoy the OU Sooners. May preceded him in death in 2002. Rad was an ambassador for the Norman Chamber of Commerce and was a longtime member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. With his gentlemanly demeanor and wonderful character, Rad set an example for us all. As a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his love and doting was precious to observe and experience. Rad left a special legacy for his neighbors along Barry Switzer Avenue in Norman with the Christmas yard art he helped establish years ago, which is still in use each Christmas. Of great pride was his home and yard which was awarded "Best Mature Garden" in 1997 by the Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister; a grandson; and eldest daughter, Deborah Kay Barrett. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Barrett of Edinburg, Texas, and Jana Dabney and husband, Wayne, of Chickasha; a son, Woody Young and wife, Penny, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Dan Young and wife, Amy, of Pittsburgh, Chris Young and wife, Amy, of Plano, Texas, Julie Devoti and husband, Matthew, of St. Louis and Brian Dabney and wife, Hillary, of Versailles, Ky.; and seven great-grandchildren.
