Col. Arthur A. Latham, Ret. Lt. Col. Arthur A. Latham, Ret., 86, of Amarillo died Friday, May 6, 2005. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Lt. Col. Latham was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Bridgeport, Conn., to William and Clara Latham. He served with the Army for more than 22 years, having fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He received his college education while serving in the Army. After retiring from the Army, he was the co-owner of four nursing homes in Amarillo and administrator of Olsen Manor Nursing Home in Amarillo. He was a fellow of the American College of Nursing Home Administrators and a preceptor. He was a life member of Retired Officers Association and a life member of Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a longtime volunteer at the VA Hospital and a member of the Church of Christ. Lt. Colonel Latham was a man of strong convictions and a loyal patriot. He loved his country, his wife, his family and his friends. The following list of medals demonstrates that he was a "soldier's soldier." He was seriously wounded in 1944 when his company came under attack on Hill 616 near St. Die, France. Although seriously wounded, he crawled 30 yards ahead of his platoon to direct rifle and grenade fire on a concealed enemy sniper. He was involved in the April 29, 1945, liberation of DachauConcentration Camp, Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart, The Army Commendation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Service Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II, Expert Badge with Rifle Bar and others. He married Barbara Ann Hamlin on July 13, 1974, in San Antonio.He had resided in Amarillo since April 1974. Survivors include his wife; a son, Leslie Latham of San Antonio; a daughter, Kathryn L. Wolfshohl and husband, Dennis, of Hewitt; a sister, Lorraine Paglinco of South Bury, Conn.; a grandson, Chad W. Cox and wife, Robin, of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Gina L. Stewart and husband, Mike, of San Angelo and Amber L. Huffhines and husband, Trent, of Waco; and five great- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church in Quanah with the Rev. Bud Kidwell officiating. Burial will be in Goodlett Cemetery in Goodlett by Smith Funeral Home of Quanah. Mrs. Malone was born to Sherman and Rena McWhorter Mathews on March 28, 1925, in Hardeman County. She was a longtime resident of Hardeman County and a graduate of Goodlett High School. During World War II, she worked on aircraft in California. She married Verlon Malone on Aug. 3, 1946, in Grand Prairie. She was a homemaker and member of Quanah First United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Goodlett Methodist Church, WSCS and the Goodlett Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 11, 2005. Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Hallmark and husband, Lorren, and Sharon Hudson and husband, Rickie, all of Amarillo; a brother, Willard Mathews of Claremore, Okla.; a granddaughter, Michelle Chalmers and husband, Colin, of Amarillo; two grandsons, Johnthan Paul Wilson of Amarillo and Bobby Dale Hudson of New Hampshire; and four great-grandchildren. Bell St. Mr. Ukena was born Sept. 13, 1921, to Henry and Edith Ukena in Iola, Kan. In 1937, they moved to Amarillo, where he graduated from Amarillo High School. He was a fighter pilot in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary in 1991. There are no immediate survivors. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Lovell was a veteran of World War II, founder and president of Lovell and Associates financial planning firm and former president of First Interstate Bank. He was born to John and Ruby Lovell in Muskogee, Okla., and was the grandson of Texas courthouse builder Tom Lovell. Mr. Lovell served for four years in the Army as an anti-aircraft officer in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a BA in economics and pursued graduate studies in banking at Southern Methodist University, National School of Bank Investment, and National Planned Giving Institute at The College of William and Mary. Mr. Lovell served on several boards and maintained membership in numerous professional, academic and arts organizations including the International Association of Financial Planning, School of American Research, and the advisory board for the University of New Mexico/Robert O. Anderson Graduate School of Business. He was a member of the board of directors for Santa Fe Opera and was chairman of the Santa Fe Opera Foundation. Mr. Lovell was regional chairman for the American Cancer Society, president of United Way and president of Rotary Club. She married Manuel Suarez Jalomo on Oct. 17, 1956, in Arkansas. Survivors include four daughters, Mary D. Noland HEREFORD - J.B. Noland, 93, died Saturday, May 7, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Shultz, the Rev. Ellis Parson and the Rev. Don Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 AF&AM. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Noland was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Floyd County, the son of James Alfred and Greenville Noland. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1929 and was the first drum major of the Mighty Maroon Marching Band. He was a farmer and rancher his entire life. Mr. Noland moved to the Summerfield community with the Noland family in 1917. He married Beatrice Lawrence on Dec. 27, 1936, at Summerfield. He was a past master of Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 and a charter member of South Plains Day Light Lodge of Lubbock, serving on the Grand Lodge of Texas Committee on Work for more than 20 years. He was a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Royal Order of Scotland, a member of Khiva Shrine Temple and a member of York Rite Consistery, of which he was of the Crusader Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine. Mr. Noland was a member of Hereford Chapter No. 312 of Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Summerfield Baptist Church, where he led the music for many years. He was always involved in community activities and loved singing, especially with the Golden Age Gospel Quartet, when they performed for the retirement centers and rest homes in the Texas Panhandle. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Noland of Amarillo; two daughters, Linda Kay Carney of Dallas and Jerre Bea Shultz of Hereford; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jose Luis Ramos Sr. STRATFORD - Jose Luis Ramos Sr., 67, died Friday, May 6, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joesph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Johnson Vadkumchery officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Ramos was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Brownsville. He was a 30-year resident of Stratford and was a retired truck driver. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. Mrs. McAnelly was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Anson. She received a BS degree from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She married Rex McAnelly on Aug. 26, 1950. She came to Pampa in 1959 from Harlingen. She taught algebra and biology at Pampa High School for 38 years and was department chairman of the Pampa High School Science Department. She also taught for three years at the Pampa Learning Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Pampa Classroom Teachers Association, Texas State Teachers Association, National Science Teachers Association, and Pampa and Texas Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of National Education Association, and a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a charter member of Junior Service League. She and her husband, Rex, were members of Texas Cattle Feeders Association and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Ward was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Lefors. He graduated from Kemper Military Academy and North Texas State University. After college, he served with the Navy during the Korean conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he came back to Pampa and worked in the grocery business. He then opened his first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Pampa, and later opened five more in the surrounding area. He married Patsy Halpain in 1960. Mr. Ward confirmed his faith in God when he joined St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. He was a kind man with a gentle spirit, and we know that he is graciously occupying his place in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Irene Ward; a brother, Kerry Ward; a sister, Mary Francis; and a stepson, Jimmy Crocker. He and his wife, Ida, have lived in Wheeler since 1997. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Rushing was born July 14, 1923, in Quanah to Charles Adolphus and Nora Bell Potts Parks. Christine attended schools in Quanah and Shamrock. She worked 15 years at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo and three years at Shamrock General Hospital. She was a member of 11th Street Baptist Church. She married John Rushing on July 14, 1940, in Sayre, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 14, 1991; and a son, Charles on April 29, 2002. Mr. Ruiz was born Jan. 24, 1962, in Tulia, where he was raised with his family and friends. He graduated from West Texas A&M University with a bachelor of fine arts in 1984. Benjamin owned and operated Ruiz Photo as a professional photographer for 17 years. He resided in Arlington for four years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mercie and Mary Ruiz of Tulia; and a brother, Arthur Anzaldua. Local arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mrs. Silvey was born June 26, 1931, in Walsh. She was a resident of Colorado for 25 years and had been a resident of Ordway for the past 12 years. Survivors include a son, Bohnm Joe Stansill of Denver; a brother Bohnm H. Johnson of Denver; a sister, Lora Jane of Guymon; two grandsons; and a great- grandson. Kaiser WEATHERFORD, OKLA. - Margaret O. Kaiser, 89, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, of Amarillo, Texas. Private family services were held at Lockstone Funeral Home with Joe Youngblood, her grandson-in-law, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Kaiser, known by her children as the family's "heart and soul," and who lived many years in Weatherford and Ponca City, died Wednesday after a brief illness. She was born Margaret Opal Stambaugh on Oct. 17, 1915, in Thomas. She was the youngest child of parents who settled in Oklahoma soon after statehood. As a youth, Margaret played the piano for church events and began a lifetime relationship with the Methodist Church. She graduated from high school at 16, studied art privately and painted oil landscapes and portraits still displayed in her children's homes. She met Everett Kaiser at what was then Southwestern State College, and they married on June 24, 1934. They lived in Stillwater while he completed his degree in agriculture at Oklahoma A&M (OSU). During their nearly 71 years together, Margaret and her husband owned farmland in Weatherford, Thomas and Tonkawa. Their three children graduated from Weatherford High School. Mrs. Kaiser enjoyed making Christmas candies and candles, canning, baking and cooking the quail and other fowl Mrs. Kaiser frequently hunted. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed many of her daughter's dresses and prom gowns, often embroidered keepsakes and made stuffed animals for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching televised World Series baseball as well as OSU and OU football games. Mrs. Kaiser and her husband lived in four states and 15 towns while he worked for government agencies including the Bureau of Indian Affairs in New Mexico and the Army Corps of Engineers in Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma. They retired in Ponca City and lived there more than 30 years until moving to Amarillo in December. Mrs. Kaiser enjoyed seeing new places, actively participated in Methodist's Women Society of Christian Service wherever they lived, and always said she was "happy living anywhere with Everett." Mrs. Kaiser was a humble, gentle, kind-hearted person who was devoted to her family. She was a person who lived selflessly, loved unconditionally and faithfully served her Lord. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, John Massey; a brother, Roland E. Stambaugh Jr.; and a sister, Edith Basham. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Pansy Lansberry of Amarillo and Ann Kaiser Stearns of Baltimore; a son, Vaughn A. Private burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Camp was born April 12, 1912, in Columbia, S.C. Melvin was member of Linwood United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Camp of Orangeburg, S.C., and Melinda Johnson of Guymon; a stepdaughter, Grace Marie Feller of Oklahoma City; two sons, Melvin Camp Jr. of Sherman, Texas, and Murry Camp of Fredericksburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
