Strauss Atkinson Dr. H. Strauss Atkinson, 88, of Amarillo died Tuesday, May 10, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, the Rev. Dale Cain, pastor of First Baptist Church of Sundown, the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor of First Baptist Church of Tulia, and Dr. Chester O'Brien, Baptist minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Littlefield Cemetery in Littlefield. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Dr. Atkinson was born March 6, 1917, in Florence. He was born into the family of God by salvation through faith in Jesus Christ on Aug. 15, 1925, and was ordained to the ministry on Nov. 24, 1940, by First Baptist Church, Littlefield. Strauss attended Hardin-Simmons University, West Texas A&M University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received an honorary doctorate of divinity from Wayland Baptist University. He pastored in Texas churches in Moran, Kermit and Canyon and was interim pastor of many area churches. He was director of missions for the Caprock- Plains Area in Plainview and was honored with the Outstanding Missionary Leader Award by the Associational Missions Division of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. He preached in cities throughout the United States and many foreign countries. He served on numerous committees and boards of the Southern Baptist Convention and was a field representative for Baylor University. He presided at baccalaureate services at both Wayland Baptist University and Hardin Simmons University. He actively served in the Ambassador Service for Amarillo Area Baptist Association as a mentor through December 2004. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy; a daughter, Mayla Ward; and a granddaughter, Tracie Densford. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie; a daughter, Lynn Cain and husband, Dale, of Sundown; his grandchildren, Lt. Commander David Ward and wife, Elke, of Virginia Beach, Va., Pennee Shmitt and husband, Michael, of Houston; four great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Sybil Faught of Austin, Mary Pearl Roberts of Baytown, Elizabeth Sawyer of Florence, Billie Fern Goertz of Harrisburg, Ark., and Jacquita White of Fort Worth. Mrs. Culver was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Jefferson County, Tenn. She had lived in Amarillo since 1965. She was a past employee of Pantex and had operated a childcare business out of her home. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Zapach; a brother, Robert Bales; and a sister, Dorothy Arp. She graduated from Amarillo High School and was a member of Amarillo Junior League, Amarillo Symphony Guild and Rachel Group Circle at FCC. She was also a member of Heel and Toe Square Dance Club and Triad Book Club. Mrs. Latham was a founding underwriter and board member of Producers Lloyds Insurance Co. She was most proud of her family and greatly enjoyed being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. To all who knew her, she was a most gracious, loving and caring person. Her home was always open to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Latham Jr. in November 2003; her parents, Hiram and Kate Linder; four brothers; and two sisters. Mr. Remlinger was born June 27, 1927, in Riviera. He graduated from Riviera High School in 1945 and attended Texas A&I (now Texas A&M Kingsville). He moved to San Angelo in 1948. He married Margie Herbert in San Angelo in February 1951. She died in February 1981. He married Mary Naples in November 1983. Mr. Remlinger moved to Amarillo in 1953. He worked for Texaco Inc. Refining Dept. for 32 years. He was an operations supervisor for the last 20 years of his service. He was a past member of Knights of Columbus Council 1420. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and The Texaco Retirement Club. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, and the Army during and after World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Karen J. Scholz of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Carole Brunton of Euless; two sons, Dr. Stephen J. Remlinger of Fort Worth and Philip J. Mrs. Gilbert was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Aspermont, to the late H.E. Baker and Lilly (Brooks) Baker. She grew up in the Gray Mule area. She married Losey Dewane Gilbert on Nov. 26, 1938. She lived in Flomot for most of her life and moved to Turkey five years ago. She was a homemaker and mama, and was a member of Fairmont Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 28, 2000; a son, Artie Bearl Gilbert in 1999; a brother, Roy Baker; and a sister, Molly Jo Timmermon. Olson TEXLINE - Glenn O. Olson, 84, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Texline United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bailey Barkley, pastor, and the Rev. Jeff Bayley, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Tahoka, officiating. Masonic graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Olson was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Randall County to Arthur and Esther Anderson Olson. He was a graduate of West Texas High School in Canyon and then graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in agricultural engineering. He married Bettye Hales in Clovis, N.M., on Sept. 25, 1942. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving as a lieutenant on the submarine USS Atule in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his discharge, he moved to Hereford and entered the farming business. He bought a farm in Texline in 1952 and moved his family from Hereford to Texline. He farmed and ranched in Texline until his retirement in the late 1980s. He was a founding member of Texline State Bank and a board member for 19 years. He was also a member of the board of directors of the XIT Telephone Co. of Dalhart for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Texline School Board and served as chairman of the board for Texline United Methodist Church. He was a district deputy of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of many community service organizations in Texline and the surrounding area. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Texline. He was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Olson in 2003. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Anne Fields and husband, Bruce, of Canyon and Carol Farmer and husband, David, of Atlanta; and a brother, Donald M. Olson of Canyon. Mr. Carter was born in Lawton, Okla., on March 23, 1933, to Jeter Clabe and Vera Carter. He was a devout father, husband, grandfather, great friend and employer, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gene was an accomplished pharmacist for 49 years. He was recently awarded his doctorate of pharmacy degree from Southwestern Oklahoma School of Pharmacy. Gene's life was fully devoted and committed to the practice of pharmacy. He was the proud owner of Carter's Pharmacy and previously owned Medical Plaza Pharmacy and Ocean View Pharmacy in Corpus Christi, and Groom Pharmacy in Groom. He was also a longtime supporter of Islander Athletics. Some of his memberships included Texas Pharmacy Association and National Community Pharmacist Association. Gene was a devout member of Trinity Church of Nazarene and Holy Cross Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leroy Carter. Survivors include his wife, Emma; his children, Debbie Carter, Michael Carter and wife, Susan, and Gary Carter, all of Corpus Christi, Cheryl Plemons and husband, Kent, of Richardson, Mark Carter and wife, Shanna, of Portland and Michelle Martinez and husband, Manuel, of Pearland; his grandchildren, Bradley Plemons, Katie Plemons, Drew Carter, Matthew Martinez, and A.J.
