Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with David Goad, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be private. Mr. Hayden was born July 2, 1964, in Chicago Heights, Ill. He graduated from Rich South High School in Park Forest, Ill. He attended Midwestern State University, where he pursued a double major of criminal justice and psychology. He married Denese Humphris on Aug. 16, 1986, in Wichita Falls. Mr. Hayden enjoyed a sales career in Wichita Falls. He was well accomplished in the shoe business, obtaining management positions in corporate companies such as Kenney Shoes and FootActionUSA. His most accomplished position was as a manager/buyer with a local prestigious children's clothing store, Storkland, when they decided to expand their business to include a new children's shoe department. He was loved by all who came to know him in this line of business. In 1992, he decided to pursue a career more in line with his studies and became a correctional officer with the State of Texas. He and his family moved to Amarillo, where they fell in love with the area and decided to stay. He enjoyed a 13-year career with the State of Texas Institutional Division at the William Clements Unit. He started his career in the psychology department at the Clements Unit and was trained in various security positions, and continued on as the first supervisor in the PAMIO Program between the psychology and food service departments. He obtained the rank of sergeant and, as an FSMIII, became the first supervisor when the new high security kitchen opened and had supervised in both the high security and main unit. Survivors include his wife; a son, Austin of Amarillo; a daughter, Haylee of Amarillo; his parents, Gerald and Donna Hayden of Washington, Ind.; a sister, Kim Centeno and husband, Pepe, of Rockford, Ill.; his father-in-law, Clinton Humphris of Wichita Falls; a brother-in law, Marc Humphris of Killeen; three nephews, Shaun and Benny, both of Rockford, and C.J. of Killeen; and four nieces, Amanda and Cassandra, both of Rockford, Patricia of Sacramento, Calif., and Emily of Killeen. "Charlie" Cox Charles R. "Charlie" Cox, 59, of Amarillo died Wednesday, May 25, 2005. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Plainview Cemetery in Plainview. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Cox was born and raised in Amarillo and was a graduate of Palo Duro High School. He was a feed yard cattle manager in the Panhandle for many years. He was also a former firefighter for the Amarillo Fire Department. Mr. Cox was an accomplished horseman and roper. Survivors include four sons, Clayton Cox, Wade Cox and Ben Cox and wife, Suzanne, all of Amarillo, and Matt Cox and wife, Melissa, of Canyon; a brother, Dale Cox and wife, Mary, of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and a great- granddaughter. Adkisson Verne H. Adkisson, 81, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 26, 2005. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. He joined the Army when he was 18 years old and was with General Patton's march through Germany. After he was moved to the Pacific Theater of war, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for 12 years at Amarillo Hardware as an order filler. He also worked for the city of Amarillo for 10 years as a truck driver. Vernie loved his family and friends. While he was in good health, he enjoyed traveling. His two stepdaughters loved him like he was their dad. He will be missed by all of us. He was a Baptist. We want to thank BSA Hospice and Vivian's Nursing Home for their care. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with John Love, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church, officiating. Mrs. Plattner was born in Amarillo on Nov. 27, 1947, to Winifred and Bill Kimble. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1966 and held a computer science degree from Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University. Wynelle was a herbalist in Austin and an avid quilter. She belonged to the Quilting Guild in Austin and traveled to several countries to quilting shows. Wynelle gave from her heart to many, many friends and strangers in so many ways. She looked to her little brother as her protector, confidant and spiritual guardian. The bond between brother and sister was a love that surpasses time and eternity. The family wishes Wynelle God speed and a new beginning in heaven without pain. She was preceded in death by her mother, Winifred Carroll Kimble. He married Alvadee Buttrill in Canyon on Feb. 1, 1962. He worked in the oil and gas industry for 38 years before retiring in 2000. Richard most recently worked as a bus monitor for special needs children for Canyon Independent School District. He was a member and also worked in the bus ministry at Rockwell Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Jordan was born Aug. 14, 1949, to William Lawrence Jordan and Francis June Read Jordan in Lubbock. He married Kandy Kirby on Nov. 20, 1983, in Santa Anna, Calif. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier. He also was a veteran of the Navy. He was a loving father and a great provider for his family. Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin Christopher Lawrence Jordan of Amarillo; a daughter, Christine Francis Jordan of Lockney; a brother, Bobby Jordan of Amarillo; and a sister, Judy Paige of San Luis Obisbo, Calif. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Imogene Merle Bell Bain CLARENDON - Imogene Merle Bell Bain, 86, died Monday, May 23, 2005, in San Antonio. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, retired Baptist minister of Claude, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Mrs. Bain was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Estelline to Shelby Coffee Bell and Willie Elizabeth Boles Bell. She was raised in Clarendon where she met her future husband, John Elbert Bain, while she was working at Parkers Drug Store. At the time, he was enlisted in the Navy, stationed at sea aboard the USS Essex. They were married in Clarendon on Aug. 5, 1949. They moved from Clarendon to California, and in 1976, from California to Sunray, where she maintained a home until 2004. During the last five years of her life, she lived with her daughter in San Antonio. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an operator for the telephone company in Clarendon as well as a secretary at Huntington Park Baptist Church in California. She also served as a WAC in the Army during World War II. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sunray. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 12, 1995; five sisters; and six brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Aguilar of San Antonio; and four grandchildren, Kathryn, Christopher, Kimberly and John Michael. Casket bearers will be family members. Mr. Bolin was a self-employed bricklayer in the Panhandle area until he retired in 1994. He was a big sports fan who especially loved baseball and horse races. He came to Briscoe County in 1926 at the age of 5. He resided at Caprock Station until he married Winnie Lee Thomas on May 25, 1940. He departed this life on the 65th anniversary of marriage to Winnie. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gearld Smith of Quitaque; and a sister, Ella Leah Riddell of Silverton. Mr. Smith was born May 26, 1939, in San Jon. He was a cowboy and worked in horse racetracks in Albuquerque and Aurora, Colo. Survivors include a brother, Clark H. Francis Tyler Simpkins COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Staff Sgt. Francis Tyler Simpkins, 23, died Monday, May 23, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Chapel in Boys Ranch, Texas, with Cory Wall officiating. Burial will be in Boys Ranch Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo, Texas, 4100 S. Georgia St. Staff Sgt. Simpkins was born June 21, 1981. He grew up at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and graduated in 1999. He participated in many ranch activities. He excelled in the rodeo as a bull fighter, later becoming a pro. When he could, he later returned to teach with Lyle Shankey Rodeo school, which was held at the ranch annually. He joined the Army and served in Iraq for 14 months. Staff Sgt. Francis Tyler Simpkins distinguished himself in service to his country. He attended One Station Unit Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Ga. Upon completion, he was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment in June 2000. While assigned to A. Co., SSG Simpkins advanced through the ranks with lightning speed. He served as SAW gunner, Bradley crewman, team leader and lastly as squad leader. Staff Sgt. Simpkins' awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman's Badge and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He earned the Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award in 2002 within the 4000 man 3rd Brigade Combat team. He also earned the Audie Murphy award. In 2003 and 2004, he served with the utmost distinction during a 12-month tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning, he was a part of the Army realignment which redesignated A Co. to the 1-68 AR Battalion. Staff Sgt. Simpkins' military professional development schools include the Primary Leadership Development Course, Combat Lifesaver's Course, and Bradley Crew Evaluator Course. He was preceded in death by his father, Sonny Simpkins; and a sister, Andrea Burt. Survivors include two children, Coltin Simpkins and Keegen Simpkins, both of Colorado Springs; his former wife, Kim Simpkins of Colorado Springs; a sister, Lori Stanhope and husband, Mike, of Amarillo; his mother, Alesa Scales of Borger, Texas; his house parents, mom and dad, Madaline and Troy Dunn of Boys Ranch, his brothers and Boys Ranch family; two nieces; a nephew; his grandparents, Marie Cacey and Buddy Simpkins; and numerous aunts and uncles. Nicholas RUDY, ARK. - Juanita C. Nicholas, 88, died Thursday, May 19, 2005. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulsa, Okla. Arrangements were by Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Mrs. Nicholas at one time owned and operated Rudy BBQ as well as Juanita's Aquarium in Tulsa. A former NRA National Pistol Champion, Mrs. Nicholas was a member of Rudy Baptist Church. She married Richard L. Nicholas on June 30, 1972. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Avery E. Downer of Tulsa.
