"Bill" Harlan William D. "Bill" Harlan, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, June 4, 2005. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash and the Rev. Phu Phan of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon as concelebrants. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Harlan married Peggy Rice in Eureka Springs, Ark., on July 29, 1950. They moved to Amarillo from Kansas in 1952 while Bill was serving in the Air Force. Bill started Harlan Insurance in 1968, which later became Harlan & Brown Insurance Agency. He served on various boards in Amarillo throughout the years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Mavers in 1960. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Brown and husband, James, of Lake Tanglewood and Vickie Sue Halsey and husband, Stevan, of Canyon; two sisters, Helen Pauline Oberlechner of Wichita, Kan., and Clara Ruth Donaldson of Leander; two brothers, Glenn Leotus Harlan and Clinton Howard Harlan, both of Independence, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Rheagan. Sanderson, 95, of Amarillo died Friday, June 3, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. David Evans of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Sanderson was born Feb. 27, 1910, in Odell to Thomas Karl Sanderson and Lukye Teel Sanderson. He and his wife, Glendoris, were married for 64 years. Mr. Sanderson worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 38 years and retired as the oldest and most senior engineer in the Plains Division. He was the last engineer of the Madame Queen. He was recognized on his 90th birthday for 70 years of leadership, loyalty and service to education by the president and ex- student association of Texas Tech University. He was a private pilot for 30 years. He held memberships in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Trinity Baptist Church and Texas Tech Alumni Association and was a Master Mason of the Canadian Lodge No. 855 and the Lubbock Scottish Rite 32 degree. He touched many lives through his kindness, love, generosity and understanding. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by a sister. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Sanderson Moore of Lubbock and Sue Ellen Sanderson of Amarillo; and two granddaughters, Joanna and MiMi, both of Lubbock. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doris Huguley Doris Huguley, 79, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 2, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Dana Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Independence Cemetery in Custer, Okla., by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Huguley was born April 19, 1926, in Custer County, Okla. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and XYZ Club. Survivors include three sons, Harold Gene Huguley and Glenn Allen Huguley, both of Amarillo, and Mark Edward Huguley, of Dodge City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and a great grandchild. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patricia Hilton Barker Patricia Hilton Barker, 66, of Amarillo died Saturday, June 4, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Loren Green of Bolton Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Barker was born July 30, 1938, in Shamrock to Reuben J. and Beula Mae Hilton. She was a teacher and had taught in Pampa. Survivors include her husband, Jessie; a daughter, Janet April Stevens of Amarillo; a son, Darren Bradley Stevens of Amarillo; 30 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harlan Ralph Clarke Harlan Ralph Clarke, 95, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 2, 2005. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sophia Cemetery in Beaver County, Okla., with the Rev. Jack Cornell of Midway Community Church officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Clarke was the fifth of 10 children born to Alva and Nettie Walters Clarke. He was born March 24, 1910, in a sod house on the Clarke homestead in Beaver County. He graduated from Booker High School in 1929, where he was captain of the first BHS basketball team and was high point man at the 1929 Lipscomb County track meet. He married Olive Bridges of Beaver on Dec. 25, 1930. She preceded him in death after 67 years of marriage. He was employed by Groendyke Transport Co. in 1936. He came to Amarillo in 1944 to establish a Groendyke terminal and remained with Groendyke operations until 1952. He was then employed by Hearne and later by Navajo Freight Lines. He was the chaplain for the local Teamsters Union and retired in 1972. After retirement, he satisfied a 50-year dream by attending Bible College and became an ordained minister in 1982. Survivors include two sons, Marvin G. Clarke and wife, Kathy, of Amarillo and A. Leroy Clarke and wife, Linda, of Santa Fe, N.M.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Gideons International, P.O. Mrs. Antunez was born Feb. 25, 1949, in San Luis De Cordero, Durango, Mexico. She married Jose Antunez in 1967 in San Luis De Cordero. Survivors include a daughter, Blanca Ramirez of Perryton; four sons, Andy Antunez, Joe Antunez and David Antunez, all of Dallas, and Gilberto Antunez of Canyon; three brothers, Martin Borrego and Manuel Borrego, both of San Luis De Cordero, and Elizar Borrego of Canadian; two sisters, Adeila Borrego of El Paso and Amelia Borrego of Masatian, Mexico; and three grandchildren. Mr. Hays was born April 1, 1933, in Childress to Harry and Lela Tarpley Hays. He married Dovie Willingham on April 2, 1955. Survivors include two daughters, Debra Hays of Childress and Linda McClure of Artesia, N.M.; a brother, Don Hays of Childress; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. Mr. Lynch had been a resident of Fritch for the past 26 years. He was born in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Sondra; two sons, Blaine of Saginaw and Brent of Claude; his mother, Neva Lynch of Amarillo; a brother, Richard Lynch of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Wheeler was born June 27, 1917, to Virgil and Hattie Lilly Haynes. She married Bill Wheeler on Nov. 5, 1997, in Hedley. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mary Hamon of Boswell, Okla., Rita Lane of Denver and Lou Ann Reed of Childress; two sons, Kenneth "Bud" Milligan of Childress and Michael Sumrall of Randolph; two stepdaughters, Debora Dempsey of Childress and Pat Snider of Memphis; a stepson, Bill Wheeler Jr. of Childress; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great- great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Legion. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Mary Estelline Underwood FORGAN, OKLA. - Mary Estelline Underwood, 93, died Friday, June 3, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forgan Church of Christ with David Glascock and Bradley Hemphill officiating. Burial will be in Forgan Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver. Mrs. Underwood was born Nov. 13, 1911, in Beaver County to William Sherman Maynard and Stella Rachel Leona Kilpatrick Maynard. She was a member of Church of Christ for more than 70 years. Survivors include three daughters, Peggie Hemphill of Angel Fire, N.M., Julia Elaine Oden of Forgan and Billie Jean Hale of Elk City; a sister, Veva Kerns of Cottage Grove, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere A.C. Sams SLATON - A.C. Sams, 75, died Saturday, June 4, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Englunds Chapel with Ken Horn, chaplain, officiating. Mr. Sams was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Tell. He graduated from Memphis High School. A.C. was a Mason in Lakeview. He was a carpenter most of his life, but he also farmed in Plaska, where he was recognized as a Farmer of the Year. He retired from Lubbock Health Care Center in the maintenance department in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Renea; a son, Rodney of Bandera; a daughter, Susan Sams of Orange, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth of Amarillo and Russell of Youngtown, Ariz.; two sisters, Jettie Sams of Dallas and Jean Sams of Harrah, Okla.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
