Gonzalez Leonel S. Gonzalez, 80, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Arturo Mesa officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Gonzalez married Carmen Nava in McAllen on July 17, 1947. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2002. Leonel retired from Swift Processing in Hereford. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a very hard worker and loved to travel. Survivors include four daughters, Janie Gonzalez of Alamo, Nellie Martinez of Houston, Carmen Gonzalez-Perez of Springdale, Ark., and Anna L. Bendabout of Selina, Okla.; 10 sons, Hector C. Gonzalez of Indianapolis, Leonel Gonzalez Jr. of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Ramiro M. Gonzalez, Santiago A. Gonzalez, Juan J. Gonzalez, Reynato A. Gonzalez, Roy Gonzalez, Albert J. Gonzalez, Raul E. Gonzalez, and Frank J. Gonzalez, all of Amarillo; a brother, Leonel Gonzalez of Hereford; 31 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Lynn Garrett, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Ince was born in Ivanhoe to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bentley. She graduated from Southside High School in Elmer, Okla., where she was a member of the state honor roll for four years, served as assistant editor of the school newspaper and graduated as valedictorian of her class. She received her master's degree from WTSU and taught second grade at Whittier Elementary School for 26 years. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and was a life member of NEA. Mrs. Ince married William Ince on Nov. 4, 1950, in Altus, Okla. She traveled on several mission trips with a group from First Baptist Church and visited the Holy Land. She worked with First Baptist Church youth group in their summer camps and youth mission trips to Alaska, Tokyo, Japan, Greece, Italy and France. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Ince. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Tammy Alexander and husband, Steve, of Holliday; a brother, James Bentley of Oklahoma; three sisters, Kathy Roper and Marie Hawthorne, both of California, and Shirley Whittle; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, David, J.W., Nicole, Jerrad, Josh and Sheena; and five great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trueman L. Judd Trueman L. Judd, 69, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bell Avenue Church of Christ with Glen Walton, minister, officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Wellington Cemetery in Wellington with Rick Popejoy, minister of the Church of Christ in Wellington, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Judd was born March 17, 1936, in Wellington. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1954 and went on to attend West Texas State University. He was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a former president and vice- president of Amarillo Radio Kontrol Society. Trueman served in the Navy as a corpsman attached to the Marines and in the Texas Army National Guard. Trueman was a member of the Church of Christ. He was employed by and part owner of Fleetwood Barber Shop from 1963 until the year 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Davis Judd; and his parents Dick and Lavern Judd of Wellington. Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Abousweid of Baton Rouge, La.; two stepdaughters, Becky Tucker and husband, Brian, of Amarillo and Sherry Bennett of Cimarron, N.M.; numerous grandchildren; three brothers; a sister; and many friends and relatives. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marion Watson Messer Marion Watson Messer, 83, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 9, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Cletus Beights, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Messer was born March 10, 1922, in Memphis. He graduated in 1940 from Memphis High School. His first job at age 14 was at Farmers Union. In 1949, he started work at Meads Bakery working there as a supervisor until 1967. He then owned and operated Cut Rate Grocery in Dumas until 1982. Mr. Messer served with the Navy in the Coast Guard during World War II from September 1942 until November 1945. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and received the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He served on the board of directors at First National Bank of Dumas, as a director on the board of Affiliated Foods, and was a member and served as president of Dumas Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Watson Messer in 1924; his mother, Elizabeth Watkins Messer Evans in 1986; and a brother, Richard Messer in 1996. Survivors include his children, Steve Messer of Fort Smith, Ark., Stan Messer of Parker, Colo., and Nita Hunt of Keller; his grandchildren, Blake, Brent and Michael Messer, Jennifer Jenkins, Megan Messer and Faith Hunt; two brothers, M.L. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park East Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all was born in Drumright, Okla., on May 22, 1928. She moved to Amarillo in 1978 with her beloved husband, F.M. "Steve" Stephenson, and would enjoy throughout her days our cool dry summer evenings beneath her pecan trees. A member of Polk Street Methodist Church, Vera truly lived a life of faith and service to others. Our family can in no way fully express our thanks to Vera's many dear friends for your faithful friendship and kind, attentive care and aid extended these many years. She held each and every one of you dear in her heart. Befitting her remarkable culinary talent and love of family, Thanksgiving Day was Vera's favorite day. Although severely blinded by stroke, she continued to amaze all at her table with her flawless feasts that were nothing short of "picture perfect," executed seamlessly and served with her delightful good cheer. What a privilege. The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gwendola Rose Morgan Gwendola Rose Morgan, 88, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 2, 2005, in Austin. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum with Chester Beavers officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Morgan moved to California at the age of 2 and she lived with relatives in many different places. She graduated from high school at 17. She loved to dance and met her future husband at a dance in Cheyenne, Wyo. Carthel Morgan asked her to dance one Saturday night, and she refused, stating her dance card was full. At a later dance, she consented to dance with him. They were married on April 3, 1939. They moved to Amarillo with Gwen's son, Burke. They were in Amarillo when Carthel was mobilized with the 36th division on Nov. 25, 1940, and went to serve in World War II. Gwen and Burke stayed in Amarillo. Then in 1950, he was called to the Korean War. During all the times Carthel was called to serve his country, Gwen served at home. By 1950, she had three children to care for. The family had expanded when Del was born in 1948 and Lynne was born in 1946. She moved all three children to Colorado Springs, Colo., to live with her mother and father. There were many moves over the years and Gwen became an expert mover. During the Cold War, the family lived in Alaska. Gwen and Carthel learned to square dance in Alaska and they danced often. Gwen learned how to make enchiladas in Alaska. In 1961, the family moved back to Amarillo when Carthel retired. Gwen and Carthel were avid card players and played bridge weekly. Gwen will be remembered for many things, her love for animals, cooking, sense of humor, and most of all the love of her family. She was protective and very proud of her family, they could do no wrong. She was preceded in death by a son, Burke H. Morgan in 1967. Survivors include her husband; a son, Del Morgan; a daughter, Lynne Schuster; a daughter-in-law, Mary Craig; five grandchildren, Vanessa Morgan, Danna Barnes, Kyle Craig, Whitney Morgan and Michaelyn Morgan; and three nephews, Joe Ely, Mark Ely and Frank Morgan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kassie Lee Phillips Kassie Lee Phillips, infant daughter of Kassie Stone and Jarred Phillips of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 9, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with R.D. Stone officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Kassie was born June 9, 2005. Survivors include her parents; a sister, Michelle Stone of Amarillo; her grandparents, Billy and Joyce Stone, Carol Grayson and Wade Phillips, all of Amarillo; her great-grandparents, Arnes and Lupita Jackson of Amarillo, R.D. and Reese Stone of San Antonio and Clay and Loretta Crow of Hendricks, Okla.; two uncles, Jeremy and Shaina Stone and Nathan Stone, all of Amarillo; and an aunt, Mia and Monte Hall of Lubbock. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Geraldine "Jewel" Morgan Geraldine "Jewel" Morgan, 90, of Amarillo died Saturday, June 4, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Warford-Walker Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Hill Sr., pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Morgan was born April 3, 1915, in Royce City. She had been a resident of Amarillo for 70 years. For many years, she and her husband, George, operated a dry cleaning business. She worked as a cosmetologist for more than 40 years. She loved children and was fond of having them around her. Survivors include a son, Lawrence W. Moseby of Amarillo; a daughter, Sheryal J. Scott of Amarillo; three nephews, Billy and Jimmy Allen, both of Beaumont, and Cedric Holmes of Amarillo; and a niece, Tina Allen of Beaumont. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Sadie Bolton DALHART - Sadie Bolton, 93, died Thursday, June 9, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with Rusty Hancock, pastor, and Bob McAlister, pastor of Channing Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dalhart Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Bolton was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Devol, Okla. She married Humphrey Bolton in 1933. Survivors include four grandsons, Mike Bolton, Johnny Bolton, Walt Bolton and Connie Bolton, all of Dalhart; two granddaughters, Dede Bolton and Patty Garcia of Dalhart; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Rowan was born June 24, 1950, in Guymon, Okla. He was a master mechanic for General Motors for many years in Phoenix and retired several years ago. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Lynch and Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Lamka had been a prominent member of the Detroit Radio Broadcasting community since 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dell Lamka. Survivors include his wife, Sharman; two sons, Michael Charles Lamka and Philip Glenn Lamka; three grandchildren, Lisa Elaine Lamka, Nathan Philip Lamka and Amanda Lynn Lamka; his parents-in-law, Jim and Eleanor Stewart; a sister, Sharon Lamka Hegeman and husband, Richard William; a niece, Haley Phillips Hegeman; a nephew, Graham Christopher Hegeman; and many loving friends. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frederick William "Bill" Longbine DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Frederick William "Bill" Longbine, 84, died Thursday, May 19, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Kraeer-Becker Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Mr. Longbine was born May 5, 1921, in Claude, Texas. He completed three years of college in pre-medicine before enlisting in the Navy at 19 years of age. He was serving as a gunner on the USS Maryland during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. While in the Navy, Bill completed medical technologist school and also qualified as a registered nurse. Thereafter, he served in the Hospital Corps as a chief pharmacist's mate and a senior medical officer. After the war, he met and married Pearl Maloney and completed his bachelor's degree at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Bill and his family moved to Durham, N.C., where he completed a master's degree in microbiology at Duke University. Bill worked as a microbiologist in Amarillo, Texas, at the health department and Franklin Serum Co., then in Atlanta at the Food and Drug Administration and in Gastonia, N.C., at Gastonia Memorial Hospital. When he retired, he and Pearl moved to Deerfield Beach to be near family. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rose Ozga and husband, Gary; and two grandsons, Dustin and Travis Ozga. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margaret Ellen Peak CISCO - Margaret Ellen Peak, 81, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home in Laverne, Okla. Burial will be in Red Rock Cemetery in Harper County, Okla., with the Rev. Lesley Peterman officiating. Local arrangements are by Kimbrough Funeral Home. Mrs. Peak was born in Maybell, Colo., on May 10, 1924, to Clarence and Mollie Jo Pierce Hopkins. She was raised in Woodward, Okla., and graduated from Sharon High School in 1942. She lived in Amarillo nearly 40 years and worked as a ward clerk at St. Anthony's Hospital before moving to Cisco. She was preceded in death by a sister, Johanna Ditwiler; and a brother, Arthur Hopkins. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with Ran Southard, his son, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael- Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Southard was employed by Cabot Corp., retiring as a plant foreman after 41 years of service. He was instrumental in the last 15 years of his life in helping start a summer camp and children's home for children with learning disabilities in the Kerrville area. Survivors include his children, Jeanette Edwina Harmon and Yoby Angeline Southard, both of Lake Dallas, Rand Southard of Kerrville, and Guy Sherman Holly and Linnie Farrell Southard, both of Lisbon, Iowa; two sisters, Marie Casey and Beth Riley, both of Monahans; three brothers, Don Southard of Lisbon, Dale Southard of Amarillo and Lawrence Southard of California; and 15 grandchildren.
