"Mike" Ussery M.S. "Mike" Ussery, 75, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Watson, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Ussery had lived in Amarillo since August 1978. Mr. Ussery, originally from Gulfport, Miss., earned his B.B.A. degree from the University of New Mexico in 1956. Mike was on active duty in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 through 1953, and continued in the active reserve, being discharged as a captain in June 1964. Mr. Ussery was employed with American Linen Supply Co. from 1955 through 1994, the last 20 years as a district manager. After 1994 he became a private consultant in the industry. In 1980, Mike received his Texas Real Estate License. He was a member of Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, associate member of Randall County Republican Women, associate member of League of Women Voters, was a life member of Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce, as well as a life member of American Legion, Post 54, life member of Masonic Lodge No. 1330, and a life member of Elks Lodge No. 923. He served as chairman of two city of Amarillo boards and was a member of Amarillo-Canyon United Way CBC Board. He was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Amarillo YMCA, the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and a mediator for Panhandle Regional Planning Commission. He was currently chairman of the Randall County Republican Party, and has been very involved in holding his office open full-time, since 1996. Gov. Rick Perry appointed Mr. Ussery to be one of the two members of Texas Veterans Land Board, serving with the Texas Land Commissioner. Mike has been very instrumental in the biggest expansion of Texas veterans' services since the creation of the Veterans Land Board in 1946. He was treasurer of the Republican County Chairman Association of Texas, and a member of the Electoral College that elected George W. Bush president in 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay on May 24, 2005; and a daughter Kathy L. Ussery-Estill on June 28, 1999. Survivors include a son, Vince of Plano; two grandchildren, Jessica and Dain of Plano; a brother, Albert T. Ussery and wife, Margie, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, M. Carol Russell of Albuquerque; and a second cousin, Edna Perkins and husband, Dave, of Lafayette, La. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon with the Rev. David Crump, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Gilmore was born May 5, 1952, in Canyon to Jimmie Evans and Florene Evans. She married Glenn Gilmore on June 28, 1969, in Canyon. She was a homemaker and cashier in retail sales. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jimmie Gilmore and Chris Gilmore, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Tammy Sanders of Canyon; her mother, Florene Evans of Canyon; a sister, Mildred Kershman of Bristow, Okla.; three brothers, Clifford Cunningham of Baton Rouge, La., Wayne Evans of Amarillo and Roger Evans of Canyon; and six grandchildren. Brown Irl E. Brown, 74, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger Hubbard, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Brown was born in San Mateo, Calif., and was raised in Katonah, N.Y. He was a 1948 graduate of Katonah High School. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1955. He served in the Marine Corps in Korea and was active with the Amarillo Marine Corps Reserve Unit. He retired from the Marine Reserves as a full colonel after 25 years of service. He was a 1952 graduate of Texas Tech University and was a member of Texas Tech Alumni Association. He married Grayce Arnette Johnson on Sept. 5, 1956, in Amarillo. Mr. Brown worked in broadcast advertising in the Amarillo area for more than 40 years at KGNC, KAMR and KCIT. He and his wife were charter members of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. He was an active member of Amarillo Executive Association for more than 25 years and was a past president. He was a past member and president of Amarillo Chapter of the National Exchange Club, and a member of Lake Tanglewood Golf Association. Mr. Brown was a supporter of Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo and was a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels for many years. He worked with Special Olympics at the Ragin' Cajun annual dinner, as well as the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the annual Lake Tanglewood MDA picnic. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004; and a sister, Helen Whyte in 2005. Survivors include two sons, Webb Brown and wife, Carla, of Amarillo and Matthew Brown of Richardson; three daughters, Sharon Brady and husband, Joe, of Claude, Melinda Davis and husband, Steve, of Tulsa, Okla., and Helene Garst and husband, Butch, of Plains, Kan.; six grandchildren, Ashley Brady of Claude, Lauren Davis and Erica Davis, both of Tulsa, and Carlee Garst, Mandee Garst and Laynee Garst, all of Plains; a sister-in-law, Arlene Frost and husband, R.J., of Morgan City, La.; and a brother-in-law, Gary Whyte of Ocean Park, Wash. Mr. Ramirez was born June 6, 1954, in Bakersfield, Calif. He was in the Army for 11 years. He was a dedicated and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing and being in the presence of his grandchildren, family and friends. He was married to his loving and caring wife, Guadalupe, for 21 years. Those who knew him knew he was a caring and loving man. We know that you are in a better place and will rest in peace. We will miss and love you forever. He was preceded in death by his mother, Adela Ramirez; and a brother, John Ramirez. Mrs. Bell was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bell; three brothers; and two sisters. Greg Waggoner of Bible Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, Okla., with the Rev. Jack Sauer officiating. Mrs. Sauer was born Feb. 8, 1909, in Tangier, Okla., to Christion and Augusta (Meister) Weidner. Emma was united in marriage with Samuel Sauer on Dec. 14, 1927, at Lipscomb. Emma lived with her husband in Weatherford all of their married life. Her husband passed away Nov. 21, 1960. They were members of Zion Congregational Church. A short time after her husband's death she moved to Amarillo to be closer to her son and his family. Her life was centered in Christ, her Savior, whom she served faithfully. She joined Southlawn Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to South Georgia Baptist Church. She served faithfully in both churches. Her family was her pride and joy and great concern. They were brought before the throne of grace daily. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 17:15 and her favorite songs were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "My Jesus I Love Thee." She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Otto and Rueben Weidner of Follett, and Chris Weidner; and a sister, Elsie Kraft of Shattuck, Okla. Survivors include a son, Milton G. Mr. Broaddus was born in Amarillo on Oct. 3, 1928, to John E. and Fannie Simon Broaddus. He graduated from Wildorado High School in 1949. After graduation he served in the Army for two years. He retired to Bushland from Indiana in August 1990. He was a member of Country Church of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleda; a sister, Geneva; and a brother, Johnny. He was a farmer. Gabriel Cardiel, OFM, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Rosas was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Yola to Alfredo Rosas and Julia Salias Rosas. She moved to Amarillo in 1985 from California. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Laurence Cathedral parish. Survivors include three sons, Ricardo Cabello of Plainview, Rosalio Cabello Jr. of Amarillo and Valentino Cabello of San Angelo; five daughters, Gloria Corona and Elida Cabello, both of California, Adelaida Martinez of Lockney, and Anna Marie Reynosa and Flora Bustos and husband, Abel Sr., all of Amarillo; seven sisters; three brothers; 27 grandchildren; and 35 great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Douglas Monroe Woolsey PANHANDLE - Douglas Monroe Woolsey, 49, died Sunday, June 12, 2005. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Woolsey lived most of his life in Amarillo and married Madeleaine Holley in 1998 in Amarillo. He was a conductor for Burlington Northern until his retirement. He loved his family, friends and life. Everyone who knew him has special memories that will last a lifetime. He was well respected, loyal, and brought a lifetime of joy, laughter and love to each and everyone he knew. Mr. Woolsey was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mrs. Scott worked for Cabot Corp. for more than 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as church librarian for several years. She was employed for many years in the Selective Service System in Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Houston and Beaumont. Survivors include a sister, Mary Theresa Ledwig; six stepsons; and several stepgrandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bernice Alberta Carrica LA JUNTA, Colo. — Bernice Alberta Carrica, 75, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, in Amarillo, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Carrica was born in Wakeeney, Kan., on April 25, 1930, to Edwin and Louise Schneider. She married John M. Carrica on Aug. 22, 1946, in Raton, N.M. Mrs. Carrica was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Dec. 14, 1997; four sisters, Rose Murray, Viola Brown, JoAnn Daffron and Betty Wilson; and three brothers, Edwin Schneider Jr., John Schneider and Dick Schneider.
